Betrayal At the Altar by Dolores Delia
Betrayal At The Altar By Dolores Delia Chapter 57 The moment that sentence passed his lips, an eerie silence spread in the car.
Eddie Brook regretted what he said so much that he wanted to slap himself. Instead, he tentatively watched David Jonesâs expressions, then carefully opened his mouth. âMiss Greyâs performance was very impressive tonight...â
But Davidâs frown only deepened. Eddie had to quickly think of something to quell Davidâs anger. So Eddie added, âOnly a woman like that is worthy of you, sir.â
Sure enough, Davidâs gloomy expression disappeared instantly when he heard the second half of Eddieâs comment.
Having narrowly escaped danger, Eddie secretly gave Rachel an even more special place in his heart. Rachel Grey was almost like a savior to him now.
Eddie even started thinking about finding an auspicious place at home to worship Miss Grey for how she saved him.
âYou did well tonight.â Davidâs deep voice was cold as usual.
Eddie paused briefly. He tried to reflect on what he had said that pleased David. Then, after some thought, Eddieâs only reasonable explanation was that Miss Grey was mentioned. Hesitantly, Eddie squeezed out a response. âWe have nothing to do with the video...â
After hearing this, Davidâs lips curved into a mysterious smile. âThat little girl has quite a few secrets...â he said indulgently.
It was already late at night when she returned to Johnsonâs Mansion.
Carrying a bouquet of roses in her arms, Rachel returned to her room.
After a shower, Rachel dried her hair with a towel. That was when her phone on the table suddenly went off.
As soon as Rachel picked up the phone, a lazy voice spoke, âSomeone is secretly investigating the Johnson Corporationâs CEO.â
âAre they better than you?â Rachel asked.
âAre you kidding me? My hacking skills are unmatched.â
âThen are you afraid of them?â Rachel asked again.
Her question apparently hit a nerve with Lucas Johnson on the other end of the line, who angrily roared, âRachel Grey, you can call me names. You can look down on me. But I wonât allow you to humiliate me like this!â
As a respected outsourced member of the prestigious Hacker Alliance, Lucas Johnson would not allow anyone to question his hacking expertise!
Rachel Grey smiled playfully. âIf that is the case, then what are you worried about?â
Rachelâs retort immediately left Lucas speechless. Then, after a long pause, Lucas spoke again. âI was the one who took care of the problems you caused. Is this how you would repay the person who saved you?â
âEven if you didnât take care of it, I could have handled it.â Rachel Grey picked up the glass of water on the table and took a sip to soothe her dry throat. âBesides, I havenât blamed you for interfering with my plans.â
Lucas coldly snorted. âForget it. I was just wasting my efforts for an ungrateful person like you!â
âWho is investigating me?â Rachel asked all of a sudden.
âLouis Smith, CEO of the Smith Group,â Lucas said with a malicious sneer.
Rachel was not surprised. But she was pretty sure that Louis wouldnât be able to find anything about her no matter what.
âI donât think you were blindfolded by love. But what did you see in such a scumbag?â Lucas did not hold back his criticism. âIn the past, you deserved better than marrying into the Smith family because they were on the verge of bankruptcy. Even though the Smith family is on the rise now, Louis Smith is still way beneath you. Iâm glad that you finally realized how silly you were.
Otherwise, I would think that someone has cast a spell on you.â
It was not just Lucas, but everyone close to Rachel had been dumbfounded by her sudden decision to be with Louis Smith.
Rachel Grey raised her hand and rubbed her forehead. Then, with a tone as icy as a winter stream, she said, âDo you remember that one time when we snuck out of school five years ago?â
âAre you saying...â filled with disbelief, Lucasâs voice suddenly tensed, âthat it was Louis Smith who saved you that night?â
