Chapter 223: Ambushed Abroad
Dad, Stay Away from My Mom
Claire hadn't planned on going to the airport to see Dennis off.
But when she heard the news that Dennis was leaving, an inexplicable wave of sadness washed over her.
That feeling prompted her to make a last-minute decision to go to the airport.
"Hey, can you drive a little faster, please?"
Claire urged the driver, but even so, she was still a step too late.
By the time she arrived at the airport, Dennis's flight had already started boarding.
Claire stood in the airport lobby, staring at the constantly scrolling flight information on the electronic display, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
She knew that if she went in now, she wouldn't be able to see Dennis.
Claire felt a pang of regret.
She bit her lip, about to turn and leave, but then she saw a familiar figure out of the corner of her eye.
In the VIP lounge, Dennis was sitting on a sofa, checking his watch.
He glanced at his phone occasionally, then looked towards the boarding gate, his brows furrowed.
Claire really didn't come to see him off.
That heartless woman, after all he'd done for her!
Despite his thoughts, Dennis couldn't help but hope.
Maybe Claire was just running late?
But as the boarding announcement came over the speakers, he still hadn't heard from Claire.
Dennis's face darkened as he got up and walked towards the boarding gate.
He shouldn't have expected anything from Claire!
"You can't go in."
Claire had just reached the boarding gate when she was stopped by the staff.
She looked at the closed gate, feeling a wave of regret.
She was still a step too late and didn't get to see Dennis.
Claire sighed and turned to leave.
Just then, her phone rang.
It was Dennis calling.
Claire was stunned for a moment before quickly answering the call. "Hello?"
"Claire, did you come to the airport?"
Dennis's deep voice came from the other end of the line.
"I..."
Claire had just started to speak when she heard a commotion on the other end.
"Attention passengers, due to unforeseen circumstances, this flight has been delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Claire was taken aback and instinctively looked at the electronic display.
The flight information that had been scrolling had now stopped, showing that the flight was delayed.
"Claire, if you admit you came to see me off, I'll consider staying."
Dennis's voice came through the phone again, with a hint of amusement.
Claire snapped back to reality, her eyes widening as she looked at her phone. "What do you mean?"
Dennis chuckled softly and replied, "Exactly what I said." Then he hung up.
Immediately after, Claire heard a familiar voice behind her. "Claire, turn around."
Claire spun around and saw Dennis standing behind her, a smile on his face as he looked at her.
"You... how are you here?"
Claire's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Because I decided to stay for you."
Dennis walked up to Claire, extending his arms to pull her into a hug.
"Claire, I have good news and bad news for you."
"The bad news is, you'll have to work harder to make money because my grandma might freeze my bank accounts soon to force me back to Thalassia."
"The good news is, I've decided not to go back for now."
Claire nestled in Dennis's arms, listening to his strong heartbeat, feeling a surge of emotion.

She reached out and hugged Dennis back, her voice choked with emotion. "Dennis, thank you for staying for me."
"Silly, no need to thank me."
Dennis chuckled softly, whispering in Claire's ear with a teasing tone, "If you want to thank me, you can marry me."
Claire blushed and pushed Dennis away. "What are you talking about!"
Dennis stumbled back a step but didn't mind at all. Instead, he laughed even more happily. "Claire, you're blushing."
"I..."
Claire touched her burning cheeks and glared at Dennis. "Stop talking!"
They looked at each other and laughed, the air filled with sweetness and happiness. Meanwhile, in Lumaria, Gwyneth opened her phone and immediately called Brielle. "Hey, Brielle. How's everything going?"
"Don't worry too much, Gwyneth. Just take care of yourself. Vaughn's got everything arranged. Just stick to the plan."
"But what exactly is the plan?" Gwyneth pressed.
Brielle hesitated. "It's better if you don't know all the details right now."
After hanging up, Gwyneth couldn't help but think about Raymond, the man she had once loved deeply.
At the same time, Raymond was tirelessly tracking Gwyneth's whereabouts.
He had learned that Gwyneth's private jet had landed in Lumaria and then disappeared. Through his connections, he finally found out that Gwyneth had been to
a large biological research institute's affiliated hospital and had a brief stay.
But what exactly she had done there, he couldn't find out.
Without hesitation, he boarded a plane to Lumaria, determined to bring Gwyneth back home.
As soon as his plane landed at the private airport, Raymond received a message from someone claiming to help, providing Gwyneth's address.
He frowned, suspecting it was a ploy to mislead him.
Raymond tracked down the surveillance footage from the underground parking lot of
the large biological research institute's affiliated hospital and found a suspicious black business car.
Following the car's route, he finally obtained the address of the villa where Gwyneth was staying.
He immediately set off for the villa but noticed a Mercedes SUV tailing him along the
way.

"Block that SUV," he ordered his bodyguards.
The other party backed off, but Raymond knew things wouldn't be that simple. He instructed his bodyguards to stay alert.
Sure enough, shortly after the SUV left, it called for reinforcements to deal with them. Raymond sneered, unafraid.
He believed in his abilities and the skills of his well-trained bodyguards to handle any challenge.
Raymond called Melinda to assure her he was safe.
"Melinda, I'm about to bring Gwyneth back home for surgery."
"Raymond, you know Vaughn won't let you succeed easily," Melinda reminded him.
"Don't worry. I'll overcome any obstacles," Raymond replied confidently.
As Raymond stared at the scenery ahead, a blinding flash of light suddenly appeared
in the sky.
"Watch out! It's an ambush!" he warned. As his words fell, a barrage of gunfire erupted...
It was all part of Vaughn's scheme. He had long arranged for assassins to wait for Raymond to walk into the trap.
He had spent a fortune on this setup, allowing no room for failure.
Because he knew that only if Raymond died abroad could he help Gwyneth secure the Thomas family fortune for their child.
This was a battle for the family's future and interests, and he couldn't afford to lose!
Although the car was bulletproof, it still seemed precarious amidst the continuous explosions.
Raymond's face was grim as he quickly directed the driver to maneuver evasively, trying to find a way out amidst the chaos.
Their vehicle was surrounded by numerous SUVs and motorcycles. The attackers were clearly well-prepared, aiming to ensure Raymond had no way out.
"Head towards the city center," Raymond ordered, hoping to use the complex traffic to shake off their pursuers.
However, the attackers seemed determined not to let them go easily.
On the way, they encountered a trap of tire spikes, causing their car to slow down.
Raymond knew that if this continued, they would soon be caught.
"Stop the car," he ordered decisively, preparing to fight back.
The car was equipped with an array of sophisticated weapons, their only advantage.
