The Matthews Family

The Rich And Not Spoiled: A Christmas Special

🎄 Jordan's POV 🎄

"Mama, does mine look okay?" Leilani asked me from the table.

"Yeah button, yours looks great," I said with a smile.

Today, the girls and I have planned to go shopping for a little bit, while Riley works on a major murder case. The case has been bothering her for a while and she decided that today she'd figure out what exactly is wrong with the case.

She wants to do it today since we only have an official week until Christmas day rolls around.

I tell her to take it easy but she always says that cases and crimes don't stop just because it's the holidays, they only increase instead.

I leave her to it because she knows better when it comes to the crime sector, I hardly know much so I try not to get in the middle of that.

And she loves her job so I try to leave her to it whenever she needs a minute.

"Can we get hot chocolate while we're out today?" Nala asked.

"Yeah, and cookies?" Leilani added.

"I'm sure we can but it all depends on when you guys finish eating breakfast," I said. "And Leilani please stop decorating your oatmeal with cinnamon, it's gonna taste like too much now," I said to her.

"Oops sorry." She smiled and put it down.

Both the girls started eating and I joined them. This morning I made oat meal. I've gotten better at making the simple things over the years. My wife has been an incredible teacher in that.

Now I make us dinner, breakfast, and lunches three times a week while Riley does the rest of the week.

Our girls have also been a great help in getting me to actually learn. When Nala was little I really wanted to do more so I made dinner once and Riley decided she'd teach me more because it was a mediocre meal at best.

I don't blame her for that. But now I make pretty good meals. And I can bake from scratch.

"Finished!" Leilani said with a wide smile.

"Me too, can we go now?" Nala asked.

"Bowls in the sink girls, then go use the bathroom and grab some shoes and coats, I'll meet you at the door," I told them and they all agreed.

Once they ran off I took the moment to wash the dishes quickly and go visit my wife in her office.

"Hi baby," I kissed her cheek softly.

"Hi butterfly," she smiled.

"Have you figured it out?" I asked. "The case I mean."

"No, and it's pissing me off. I mean, it's clear this wasn't an accident but they filed underneath an accidental claim." She said. "You don't simply run off the road and accidentally hit a body and hide it. It feels strange." She said. "I don't think I can help this guy."

"Sure you can my love," I said and wrapped my hands around her. "Look, you're gonna walk through it step by step using all the information and evidence you have then you're going to see where his loopholes were so you can help him and walk away with another win." I smiled at her.

"You sure I can do it?" She asked me meekly.

"Of course I do, you're a good lawyer—it's why you're almost partner too." I kissed her cheek.

"You always know how to motivate me." She blushed and kissed me softly.

"Of course I do, I've been doing it since high school," I smirked. "Okay, the girls and I are gonna go, we'll leave you to it and be back later okay?"

"Yeah. Leilani is not wearing those red boots out in the snow, she needs actual shoes." Riley said.

"Noted," I smiled. "I love you."

"I love you too," she kissed me softly.

I walked out of her office and closed the door behind me. Both my girls were standing at the front door with smiles on their faces and all ready to go.

"Leilani baby, change your shoes," I said noticing the red boots on her feet.

Ever since she was three, she insists on having at least one pair of red rain boots so as she grows we buy her a new pair of the same brand and style—the only kind she ever wants.

"Why?" She asked in a whine.

"Because we're going out into the snow and you can't wear rain boots out to the snow."

"Yeah I can, it's just really cold rain." She protested.

"Shoes Lei, otherwise we're not going," I said.

"Leilani go change your shoes, I really wanna go." Nala pleaded with her sister.

"Fine!" She pouted and stomped away up the stairs.

I just shook my head and walked out with Nala to the car. She jumped into the car and I waited for Leilani to come back out so I could put her in her car seat.

She walked out with her arms folded and a pair of brown boots on her feet. She still looked incredibly cute and as naughty as ever.

"There we go button, that didn't kill you did it?" I smiled at her.

"It could've, they're my lucky boots." She pouted and got into the car in her car seat.

"Look, when we come home, you can put your boots on again and we'll go make snowmen, what do you say?" I reasoned with her.

"Can we use mom's good carrots?" Nala asked.

"I'm sure she won't miss at least...four good carrots," I said and both girls giggled.

"Okay," Nala said.

"Good enough Lei?"

"Yeah," she smiled and I pressed a kiss to her head and shut the door before getting into my side. "Let's go do some shopping."

"And hot chocolate!" Nala added.

"And cookies too," Leilani said.

"Okay, let's go do some shopping, and get some hot chocolate with cookies." I smiled as I pulled out of our driveway for the day.
