The Matthews Family
The Rich And Not Spoiled: A Christmas Special
Our holiday season has been moving by so quickly, it was just the first of December but we're already in the second week.
And while it's been good, Nala has the flu and Leilani has got a slight col. Jordi and I have been trying our best to make sure they get better soon.
Leilani is doing pretty well and has nothing more than a runny nose and a slight cough. Nala on the other hand has a high temperature, runny nose, and a very bad cough.
She's not doing well.
So we're just letting her rest for now.
I'm in the kitchen making her some soup because it's the only thing she's keeping down for now and Jordi is keeping her company.
"Mommy," Leilani called.
"Yes, baby,"
"Is Nala going to be okay? She's very sick," she asked softly.
"Of course, she's just got the flu right now." I placed a kiss on the top of my little six-year-old's head.
"What's a flu?"
"You know when you're sick and you get a runny nose? And a sore throat?" I asked her as I continued to plate up some soup for both girls.
"Yeah because of the little green germ right?"
"Exactly! Except Nala had a bigger green germ, she has maybe two big ones and they're making her sick right now," I explained.
"Ooh, okay." She nodded and understood fairly quickly, something she's good at.
"Yeah," I nodded.
I finished playing up some soup for Leilani set it down on the table and told her to wait until I cooked down a little.
I also took the small bowl upstairs where I found my wife and daughter curled up in our bed watching TV. Nala was close to sleeping though.
"Hi baby," Jordi said.
"Hi butterfly, I brought her some soup, and there's more in the pot downstairs if you'd like some." I smiled softly.
"Thank you," she placed a kiss on my lips. "She's doing a little better than she was this morning which is always good."
"Yeah, that's good." I ran my hand over her hair briefly and she stirred in her sleep. "Hi sweet girl, I brought you some soup," I said softly.
"Hi Mommy," she said and stretched a little. "Thank you," she said and sat up. "Can you stay?"
"Of course baby," I said.
"I'm gonna go downstairs to Leilani and make sure she's okay," Jordi said with a smile at both of us.
She placed a soft kiss on my lips and left to go downstairs. I climbed into bed with Nala and wrapped my hands around her.
Nala's always been a mommy's girl while Leilani is very much a mama's girl. Sometimes the trouble she and Jordi get into is insane.
We continued watching a plethora of Christmas-themed movies and shows until the sun started to set and it started snowing again.
After that, Nala and I turned off the TV and watched the snow fall as the street lamps all turned on and different people passed by.
People-watching is something she took over from me. I do love people-watching, even if it's only for a little while.
I heard footsteps running up the stairs and I just assumed it was my six-year-old but I was wrong when a little blonde, blue-eyed nine-year-old came in with my six-year-old.
"Tada!" Leilani said. "You get well present because I miss playing with you so I need you to get better." She explained.
"Kinny," Nala smiled and opened her arms just before a big cough hit her. "I'm sick," she pouted.
"It's okay Nala princess, we'll be sick together." Kinsley got in and climbed next to her. "Hi, Riley."
"Hi, Kinsley. You might get sick too," I warned her.
"That's okay, as long as Nala doesn't feel lonely." She said with a wide smile on her face.
I just shook my head. "Where's your dad?"
"Downstairs with mama Matthews." She said and wrapped her hands around Nala.
I nodded and left. Kinsley and Nala have been inseparable since they were six and I'm not even surprised that Kinsley felt no hesitation climbing into bed with Nalaâwho has the flu.
I walked downstairs leaving all three girls curled up in my and my wife's bed. I knew we were getting our bed back soon. Colton sat at the kitchen table with Jordi.
"Hi baby," Jordan said with a smile.
"Hi, butterfly." I smiled and sat down next to her. "Hi Colton, how are you?"
"We're doing good. Holidays are good but I feel bad for Nala, she's got the flu?" He said.
"Yeah, a bad case but she's doing alright," Jordi said.
"I'm surprised Kinsley just jumped right in next to her and that you let her come over," I said.
"Please we both know the flu isn't going to separate our girls, the world could be falling and they'd insist on being next to each other." He chuckled.
I did too because it's true, nothing could really keep those two apart. Since the first day they met, they've been inseparable and I don't think much can separate them, even if they tried.
"Staying for dinner?" Jordan asked.
"If you're both okay with that?"
"Of course, girls get more time together and so do we," I smiled at him. "So staying for dinner would be great."
