Chapter 111
Alpha’s Second Chance Mate (Sidonie & Carlyle)
As Carlyle and I reveled in the intimacy of our private moment, the world outside faded away, replaced by the warmth of our connection. But as the fervor of our passion reached its peak, a persistent knocking shattered the tranquility of the room.
âIgnore it,â I murmured, unwilling to let anything disrupt our moment together.
But the knocking persisted, growing louder and more insistent with each passing moment. Reluctantly, we disentangled ourselves, casting each other a shared look of frustration before moving towards the door.
âIâll go get that.â Carlyle said, pulling on a robe to cover his body with.
With a heavy sigh, I straightened up, attempting to compose myself as Carlyle approached the door.
Pulling the door open, a flood of cool air and unwelcome interruption swept into the room.
âWho dares to disturb us at such an hour?â Carlyleâs voice sounded as he looked out into the hallway, searching for the source of the disturbance.
âItâs me, Alpha.â A guard stepped forward, delivering the message he was there for to Carlyle. âPardon my intrusion, Alpha, but there is urgent news from the Lunaâs chambers.â
Carlyle gestured for the guard to continue. âWhat news do you bring?â
âIt is young Alpha Mason, sir. The maid reported that he couldnât sleep and has been in tears.â
âHow long has this been going on?â Carlyle asked in a hushed tone.
I could tell from his words that his mind was racing with worry already.
âThe maid has come bearing the same report several times within the span of an hour, sir.â The guard answered.
Carlyle nodded in understanding.
âThank you for bringing this to our attention. You can return to your duties.â
With a nod of acknowledgment, the guard retreated, leaving Carlyle to ponder the weight of the news he had just received. With a heavy heart, he made his way back inside, his steps echoing as he approached the room.
Approaching me, his demeanor was solemn yet resolute.
âItâs Mason.â He broke the silence with furrowed brows. âYour maid reported that heâs been throwing tantrums again.â
âI heard, Carlyle.â I heaved a sigh.
âSince you heard, you know we need to go see him right?â
âCanât we just focus on us? On our moments together? At least tonight?â For a moment, I wanted to be selfish. It wanted to revel in the bond between Carlyle and I.
Carlyleâs gaze softened, understanding my desire for intimacy amidst all. However, his sense of responsibility as a parent compelled him to prioritize our sonâs well-being.
âMy love, I understand your wish, but weâve neglected Mason all day. You and I know that weâve been consumed by the wedding preparations. We didnât have much time for him.â
âI know, Carlyle. But why donât we finish what we started? I want us to have this moment together without any interruptions.â
Carlyleâs lips curled into a gentle smile, his love for me evident in his eyes. He reached out to gently cup my face, his touch tender yet firm, as he tried to convey how he felt about what I said.
Softly, he persuaded me.
âI promise, Donnie, weâll have all the time in the world to complete what we started. But right now, Mason needs us.â
He leaned in closer, his voice filled with reassurance and determination, as he continued to persuade me to see reason with a searching and pleading look in his eyes.
âLet us go see him together. Iâll make it up to you in ways you canât even imagine. Trust me.â He kissed my forehead while holding my hand.
I hesitated for a moment, torn between my desire for intimacy and my maternal instincts. Finally, with a resigned nod, I relented, acknowledging the importance of our parental duty. Right then, Mason came first.
âAlright, Carlyle. Letâs go see our son.â
As we exchanged a glance filled with understanding and resolve, we set off together, leaving behind the warmth of the chambers.
Dressed in a light attire, Carlyle and I walked through the grand corridors of the Alphaâs residence, our footsteps echoing in the silence of the night. Holding each otherâs hand, we enjoyed the feeling that came with the night.
Suddenly, we come to a halt as we seemed spotted a dark-clothed figure blocking our path, sending a shiver down my spine.
âFeels like someone is there.â I said, through the mind link.
âI guess so.â He tried getting who was there with his senses, but couldnât. âWho is there?â
The figure remained silent, its presence casting an eerie shadow in the dimly lit environment. Carlyle and i exchanged wary glances, our senses on high alert, as we cautiously approached the mysterious intruder.
âCarlyle, do you see that?â My voice was barely a whisper.
Before Carlyle could respond, the figure vanished into thin air, leaving behind a palpable sense of unease. Carlyle and I exchange bewildered looks as our minds raced with questions and doubts.
âDid you see that, Sidonnie?â Carlyle voiced in disbelief.
âIâ¦Iâm not sure. It could have been a trick of the light, or perhaps our minds playing tricks on us.â I was a bit shaken, but I tried to maintain my composure, nevertheless.
âPerhaps all these is our hallucination.â
Despite my attempt to rationalize the encounter, Carlyle remained unconvinced, his instincts telling him that something was amiss.
âNo, Sidonnie. I felt a presence, a tangible presence. It wasnât a hallucination. Carlyle insisted.
âBut if there was someone there, why did he or she disappear?â
Carlyleâs brow furrowsy with concern, his mind racing with possibilities. With a heavy sigh, he reluctantly conceded, realizing that we must proceed with caution.
âLetâs continue towards your quarters. We didnât see anyone, but I canât shake this feeling of unease.â
With a shared glance filled with uncertainty, Carlyle and I resumed our journey, the shadows of doubt lingering in our wake.
We havenât walked far away after the hidden figure incident when I abruptly halted as I collapsed to my knees, clutching my abdomen in agony. Carlyle rushed to my side, concern etched deeply on his face as he knelt beside me, his hands reaching out to offer comfort and support.
âDonnie, whatâs happening? Are you alright?â He asked with urgency.
My groans of pain drew out Carlyleâs questions as I struggled to endure the sudden onslaught of agony.
My movements became erratic as I pushed Carlyleâs hands away, my screams reverberating around.
âSidonnie, please, tell me whatâs wrong! What can I do to help you?â Carlyle asked frantically, a bit scared. He tried hiding g his fears, but who wouldnât be in such a situation?
âAhhh,â I held my head my ears, my eyes closed tightly.
As Carlyle bombarded me with questions, his desperation mirroring my escalating distress, a voice from above interrupted our frantic exchange, its tone filled with an eerie calm.
âItâs time. Itâs the full moon today, sheâs ascending.
Carlyleâs gaze shots upwards, searching for the source of the mysterious voice, but found nothing but darkness looming overhead. The weight of the words sank in, sending a chill down his spine as he realized the gravity of the situation.
âAscending? What do you mean?â His voice trembled.
But the voice offered no further explanation, leaving Carlyle to grapple with his confusion and fear as he watched helplessly over me, his heart heavy with dread for what the full moon may bring as the voice had mentioned.
