â All Ways listen to strangers; They may tell you when a spider is on your shoulder."
â Donnie Harold Harris
EVERETT P.O.V
âTry againâ I told Terence as I placed the band-aid on my wound.
âNo replyâ Terence muttered and cut the call. âThey might have fooled usâ Terence said with a scowl.
I shook my head in denial, âAlton, as well as the rest of the wolves looked relieved that I had received the message. Itâs not a ploy. This particular rogue might definitely know somethingâ I said and flipped the card.
âThink about it Everett, why would they want to help us?â January asked with a frown.
âIt was plain obvious that they are fed up by Reeceâs behaviorâ I reasoned. âThey helped me so that they could receive help in return from Templar. Try again after som-â I was cut off when my cellphone started ringing.
When I noticed it was Keithâs call, I quickly answered it. âI found itâ he said gravely and my wolf perked his ears in interest. I didnât have to ask him what he found about.
âWhere are they hiding?â I demanded, raw anger already tensing my features.
âLockwoodâ he replied.
âLockwood?â I repeated in disbelief. âBut thatâs-â
âNot the route Templar is headingâ he incised.
âYesâ I said grimly.
âAlso, Daydusk wolves have spotted her.â He said and I let out a breath. âHow far are you from her?â Keith enquired.
âI think maximum three hours. I can stop herâ I said with a smile and both January and Terence smiled hearing the news.
âDrive fasterâ Terence said to his mate, who nodded laughing happily.
I placed the phone on my lap, took a deep breath and then once again placed it next to my ear. âCheck if there is any extended family somewhere. Check Felixâs history as wellâ I instructed.
âAlready on itâ Keith retorted. I smirked and shook my head. I should have known Keith didnât need telling.
But what made me happier was the news that I was finally getting closer to Templar. Letting out a breath, I closed my eyes and thanked the Goddess. Now all I needed was to hold her in my arms.
My wolf made a mewling sound and I frowned, wondering what was wrong with him. He should have been happy to know that his mate was close by, but something was still bothering him and I couldnât understand what it is.
However, I didnât let him dampen my mood.
When I woke up, I realized that we were parked in front of a medical. January was anxiously tapping the steering wheel, while Terence was nowhere to be found.
âWhy did we stop here?â I asked curiously. I checked my watch and frowned when I noticed the time. It was almost three thirty in the afternoon. Which means I had slept for nearly three hours.
âWe needed cotton roll. Your wound isnât healingâ she said and I looked down at the cut in my stomach, which was caused by Reece. I pulled up my blood soaked white shirt and frowned when I noticed that the cut was healing very slowly. How is that possible? âYour wolf cannot copeâ January said sympathetically.
Just then, Terence climbed in with some cotton rolls, band-aids and antiseptic creams. I snatched a roll from him, ripped the packet and placed the soft cotton on my stomach.
âFeeling better?â he asked me and I nodded. There was not any pain but my wolf was healing very poorly. âHere, drinkâ he said handing me a water bottle. I gulped the water without any protest. âYou have lost a lot of bloodâ Terence murmured.
âDid we cross Bluebells?â I asked to no one in particular.
âWe did, but we are in town nowâ he said and I nodded. âTake some rest. You have been driving continuously since yesterdayâ Terence advised and hesitantly, I leaned back in my seat.
I know every passing minute; my wolf will get weak because of being apart from Templar. When I go to GreenRock for business trips, my wolf knows that our mate is safe and is waiting for us. That keeps him as well as me strong. But now, not knowing where and how is she, is bothering him more than I like to admit. Hence my wolf was suffering.
Through our bond, I could feel she was fine but that was it, nothing else. Ever since I realized Templar was my mate, I have known about her each and every moment, but now, not knowing where she is was making me restless.
I tried connecting to the link and closed my mindlink when there was no response from her.
Terence passed me some food packets and I started munching it since I was damn hungry. However, I was more tired than hungry because constant driving from the last eighteen hours was getting to me.
I wandered how Templar must be, because she was going through packs by either walk or run, without any food and most importantly without any water. That thought made me sour and I threw the food away.
âWhat the hell?â Terence shouted hitting on the brakes. He started growling and then climbed out of the car, closing the door with a loud thud.
âWhatâs wrong?â I asked climbing out of the car. I checked my wound first and luckily, the bleeding had stopped, but it wasnât completely healed. Resting did help me. But what is going to help Templar?
Terence was crouching next to the front tire, with a sharp steel arrow in his hand. I growled in frustration when I saw that the tire was punctured. âWho is it?â I growled out scanning the area. My wolf immediately straightened his ears and narrowed his eyes, ready to attack as and when needed. I inhaled deeply and few scents hit my nose.
Terence and January too sensed it and they stiffened.
I clenched my hands and gritted my teeth, furiously. âWhere are we?â
âOn my territoryâ a new female voice replied. I turned my head at the direction of the voice and glared at the she-wolf who stepped from behind the tree. Dressed in black trousers, black top and black jacket, the blonde hair and grey eyed she-wolf would have looked like a gothic girl had she applied the perfect makeup needed.
Holding a bow in her left hand, she marched towards me with two more she-wolves following after her. It was then I noticed that she as well as the she-wolves behind her had band-aidâs applied on their forehead, hand, neck, fingers.
âAnd who are you?â I asked her cocking a perfect brow.
âSince you are in my territory, I ask the questions and all you do is answerâ the blond haired she-wolf countered smartly.
âYour territory?â January inquired stepping forward to stand right in front of the she-wolf.
âMy territory and you are trespassingâ she confirmed with a smirk.
âYou are a rogueâ January scoffed in irritation. âAnd rogues donât have a territoryâ she said and let out a breath. âListen, we donât have time for you. So cut the crap and make way for usâ she continued stiffly.
âDo not order me around wolfâ the she-wolf snarled and Terence growled. Listening to Terenceâs growl, the she-wolf smirked cunningly. âI will let you pass, if and only if you tell me which pack do you belong and where are you heading?â
âWho are you? My mother?â January snapped at her.
âTell your mate to watch her toneâ the she-wolf warned Terence, her grey eyes turning dark brown.
âOr else?â Terence asked crossing his arms across his chest and glaring at the she-wolf.
âOr else the next arrow will pass through her heartâ the she-wolf threatened calmly and both Terence and I growled savagely.
âI suggest you to shut your mouth right now wolf, if you want to see the dawn break tomorrowâ I snarled standing right in front of the she-wolf and pushing January behind me.
She didnât even flinch by my tone, instead she looked amused. âAn Alphaâ she said calmly while the wolves behind her started to cower after hearing my tone. I was startled seeing it.
âYes and it would take me less than a minute to tear you and your minions apartâ I growled.
âYour threats will not compel me to budge Alphaâ the she-wolf replied glaring at me. âIf you want to pass and reach Daydusk, which I know you are in a hurry to, tell me which pack do you belong because I do not let tourists on road trips to pass through my territoryâ she said growling loudly. This she-wolf wasnât some homeless rogue. She was a highly trained she-wolf who would not give up without a fight.
Well, if itâs fight what she needs then fight is what she would have gotten in any other circumstances but right now, I didnât want to waste my time on her. I quickly wanted to stop Templar before she crosses Daydusk.
âYou have got some nerve talking to us like thatâ January condemned fiercely.
âChange the tierâ I ordered Terence and he nodded. He went and opened the rear door of the car and pulled out a new tier.
While he was placing the new tier, I gave my full attention to the she-wolf. Â Â âSince I donât believe this is your territory, I donât think you have a right to receive any answer from meâ I said and the she-wolf growled.
I had just turned back, when she shot another arrow that scraped Januaryâs arm before hitting the bonnet of SUV. When he saw the blood in Januaryâs arm, Terence stood up and went to lunge at the she-wolf while I held his arms and stopped him.
âNext time, I will not be so merciful.â The she-wolf said grinding her even teeth.
âExactly whatâs your problem bitch?â January yelled at her. She was about to attack the she-wolf but I growled and commanded her to step back.
âTerenceâ I snapped and he quickly took January from my arms.
I inhaled sharply and let my wolf make an appearance. Soon, my claws were out along with my fangs. Taking a step forward, I tried to dominate this tormenting she-wolf. âYou are testing the nerves of a wolf, who is lethal ever since his mate is missing. If you try to get in my way, then I will happily kill youâ I growled out venom dripping from my tone.
The she-wolf blinked and immediately took a step back. As she lowered her head, I took back my wolf but continued glaring at her. She took another step back and so did her minions.
âHa, thatâs for trying to stop us from going after Temâ January sneered from behind and the she-wolf raised her head in confusion.
âWhat did you just say?â she asked January, narrowing her eyes. âThe name, whose name did you just take?â she probed.
My wolf straightened when she started to snoop. âWhy?â I asked her with a growl and she turned her head to face me.
âAre you⦠Are you looking for Tem-Templar Wayne?â she stuttered.
âShe is no longer a Wayne. Her surname changed to Green the minute she married meâ I said with a scowl.
The she-wolf gasped and then blinked. âThat bitch is your mate?â
I took a threatening step forward while January and Terence growled at that insult to Templar.
The she-wolf raised her hands in surrender and shook her head. âI am sorry. I didnât mean it in a bad way, itâs just⦠I thought I am the best female fighter in the country but I am no match for Templarâ the she-wolf said scowling, which I knew was aimed at Templar.
âDid she pass from here?â I asked ignoring her the she-wolf who had some serious issues.
âYes and she is the one who caused thisâ the she-wolf said pointing at her wounds. I sucked in a breath and held the she-wolf by her arms.
âWhich way did she go?â I questioned impatiently.
âTo Daydusk. I have already warned the fighters of that pack to stop herâ she replied and I nodded.
âLetâs goâ I said to Terence who was still repairing the tire. âI donât have time for thisâ I said and turned to shift into my wolf but the she-wolf stopped me.
âEverett Green is your name right?â she asked me and I nodded breathing heavily. âI am Genessa Carrieâ she said and my wolf immediately retreated so that I could give all my attention to her.
âYou are Genessa?â January asked looking at her up and down.
âUh⦠judging by your facial expression, I believe you have heard about meâ
âJust your nameâ I countered.
âOkay.â
âWhat do you know about Templar?â I asked her inquisitively.
âJust that she is a White Wolf. Alton, the Beta of BlueBells called me earlier today and asked me to stop her before she could reach Daydusk, but unfortunatelyâ¦.â She trailed off and I closed my eyes shut.
âHow was she?â I asked her in a whisper.
âExhaustedâ Genessa replied without even bothering to think. âBut she still fought against usâ
âTerenceâ I called edgily. My wolf started pacing inside me and my heart rate jumped through the roof.
âItâs doneâ he replied instantly.
âLetâs talk on the wayâ I said and asked Genessa to climb in the car. This rogue definitely would be helpful to me and I knew it. My gut instinct was telling me so.
âOh no! I cannot come with you. You are going to DayDusk, right?â she asked and I nodded with a scowl. âThen I cannot come with youâ she replied and gave a reluctant smile.
âWhy the hell not?â Terence snapped at her.
âI⦠I justâ¦â
âGenâ one of Genessaâs friends called her and she whirled to face them. âGo. She is a White Wolf, serving her is a privilege for usâ the same girl said with a smile.
âYou are going to find White Wolf, not to help any packâ other one supplied.
Genessa merely nodded and then turned to face us. She debated for a few seconds before letting out a breath. âIâll come with youâ she said. She then pulled out her mobile phone from her pocket and called someone.
âHey Sandy, any news about the White Wolf?â she asked and I tuned in to hear the conversation.
âBlake and others have gone but none are ready to fight against her.â the speaker on the other side, Sandy replied and I hitched my brows. âThey are scared because she is Goddessâs daughter, what if she curses our pack?â Sandy said fretfully and I rolled my eyes. Seriously?
âThe female is out of controlâ Sandy added and I muttered a curse.
If the DayDusk wolves arenât going to fight against Templar then her time will be saved and our time difference will increase. I cannot afford that to happen.
âWhat about Alpha?â Genessa asked with a frustrated growl.
âI donât think he is fighting with her.â was the unexpected reply.
âSo they let her pass?â I bellowed heatedly. Genessa replied the same question to Sandy who replied with a yes. âUnbelievableâ I said shaking my head in disgust. How could they not try to stop a trespasser? No matter what! Templar was trespassing in their territory. They should have at least tried to stop her.
However, another part of me was grateful that they didnât stop her because I was aware that she was too exhausted to fight. I didnât want them hurting her, or Templar hurting herself anymore.
âOkay, call me as soon as you get any other informationâ Genessa said to Sandy before disconnecting the call.
âHow do you know so many pack wolves?â January asked Genessa, in dismay. Even I was wondering the same. How does this rogue know so many pack wolves?
âLetâs just say we are friendsâ Genessa responded flashing a bright smile.
âTell me everythingâ I urged the moment Terence started driving. I was sitting in the backseat of my SUV with Genessa while January sat in the front passenger seat.
âAround ten thirty today morning, I got a call from Alton and he asked me to stop the White Wolf. I asked and received the details. I was waiting for her along with my friends, and she did come here around one. She was running but after sensing us, she stopped in her tracks. She waited until we made the first move and when we did, she went⦠feralâ Genessa said and I clenched my hands. âYou know, since she didnât at all shift into her wolf, I doubted whether she actually is the White Wolf. I thought the rumors were all silly. But then again the power she exudes compelled few of my friends to submit to her even before they could attack.â she continued in awe of Templar. âSweet lord, her scent⦠so strong. Is she an Alpha?â
âYesâ January muttered. âTheoretically, Alpha Femaleâ
âShe didnât shift into her wolf?â I asked grinding my even teeth together.
âNo. But her wolf was completely in control over her. I suppose she couldnât recognize youâ Genessa said softly.
âHer wolf always recognizes me but I wasnât there when she left the packâ I said guiltily. I hated the fact that I wasnât there for Templar when she needed me the most.
âOhâ Genessa said sadly. âThat must have been toughâ she added.
âI donât need your pityâ I said with a scowl. All I need is Templar.
âI didnât pity you, I pitied herâ Genessa said with a frown of her own. I turned my head and gave her a sharp look, âShe was very tired. She looked like she would faint any moment, but even then she fought against usâ
Closing my eyes, I pinched the bridge of my nose. My wolf howled in pain and I let him do that.
âWere there any rogues baiting her, other than your friends?â January asked Genessa.
âNoâ I replied before Genessa who stared at me and shook her head in negative.
âHow do you know?â Genessa asked me.
âWhoever planned this, knew that you and your buddies will be on the way and hence didnât think it necessary to keep another bunch of rouges here. But Iâm sure there is a group waiting at DayDuskâ I replied growling every time I thought about those rogues who were responsible for taking my mate away from me.
âThere might be many groupsâ Genessa muttered under her breath loud enough for me to hear. She paused, blinked and âWait a second⦠planned? Thisâ¦. everything, is planned?â Genessa asked in bewilderment. I merely nodded as a reply.
âWas there wolves from BlueBells following after her?â I prompted.
Replying a negative, Genessa turned and gave January her full attention, âYou are her best friend right?â she asked January who nodded. âHow long have you known each other?â she asked.
âAlmost seven yearsâ January retorted.
âHow old is Templar now?â
âShe turned twenty-two three months agoâ
Genessa was silent for a few minutes and then spoke again, âWere anyone of you there with her when she first shifted?â
âI wasâ January said rising her hand and Genessa frowned.
âUh⦠you just told me you knew her only for seven yearsâ she said utterly confused, just like me. January nodded not knowing where this was going. âBut White Wolfâs shift at the age of sixâ Genessa said and January shook her head.
âNot this one. That was Patricia. Templar shifted when she was fifteen and halfâ January said pressing her lips to form a thin smile. Genessa looked spooked after hearing the news.
âPatricia shifted when she was six?â Terence asked totally startled by that information.
âCan you please tell me everything about Templar?â Genessa asked January, who turned to face me seeking permission. I contemplated on what to do. Immediately I recalled about the business card Alton has given me, which was still in my jeans pocket.
âWaitâ I told January. âWhat do you research about?â I countered at Genessa who turned to face me.
âHumanâs think I research about extinct species while in reality I research about our kind and also a lot about White Wolfâ she said with a grin and I nodded. So, this is why Alton wanted me to talk to Genessa.
âTell herâ I told January who then went on to tell January about how Templar shifted for the first time in WaterWave Pack, how Templar killed Igor, how Templar learned to control water, how Templar went after all Glenâs followers.
At the end, Genessa looked flabbergasted. âShe killed Felix?â Genessa asked, her jaws dropped down. âDamn! I was on a hunt for that bastardâ Genessa said shaking her head in annoyance. âI should have guessed when there wasnât any news about him that he was deadâ
âWhy did you want to kill him?â I asked her.
âHe had kidnapped, raped and murdered nearly seven girls fromâ¦.â She paused and gulped. âFrom my groupâ she said and I narrowed my eyes. Genessa changed her words, she was about to tell something else.
January once again continued telling about how Templar killed Glen and how Templar saved lives. I stared out of the window looking at the trees as we passed though DayDusk territory.
âMy God! Templar is completely different from the previous oneâ She mumbled. âThe previous one, Patricia, was created by the energy of Solar Eclipse and your mate is from Tides. Thatâs like fire and water. But I can assure you, your mate is way better than whatever stories Iâve heard about Patricia.â She said wincing.
âWhat have you heard about her?â I demanded. I was talking to distract my wolf, who wanted me to shift and hunt all those responsible for taking Templar away from me.
âWell, she used to walk on fire. Does your mate do that? Walk on the surface water?â she asked and I shook my head. âOhâ she said confounded. âThe current and previous White Wolfâs are poles apart.â She concluded. âIs she in any way related to the previous one?â Again Genessa got a negative answer. She heaved a sigh before saying, âGive me a weekâs time, Iâll write down everything and then come to some conclusion about the White onesâ
âSureâ I said uninterestedly.
âWhich pack does Templar actually belong?â As soon as she asked me that question, my wolf moaned and rested his head on his paws.
âMy packâ I told her.
âMyâ January said at the same time. We both glared at each other before January directed her gaze to Genessa, âShe was in Greenrock but ever since she shifted, she lived in WaterWave. So, technically she belongs to WaterWaveâ
âBut she was born in GreenRock right? Does she have any siblings?â Genessa asked me.
âI am her brotherâ Terence told me and Genessa was once again spooked.
She took a deep breath and muttered, âGive me one full week to put things straight.â She held her head with her hands and then closed her eyes shut, âI am so confused. Everything I discovered may vanish from my headâ she mumbled. âI need to study a lot, talk to lots of people, discover about her ancestor-â her cellphone ringing cut her off. With a groan, she picked it up and placed it next to her hear. âHeyâ¦. What?â she all but shouted and I spun my head to look at her. âShe crossed the territory?â Genessa asked and I hit my fists on my lap.
âStop the carâ I decreed with a feral growl. Terence did as I was told. Pushing open the door, I stepped out and immediately shifted into my black wolf.
As soon as my paws touched the ground, I took off in a search for Templar. My wolf was tired of having his hands tied and not being able to do anything about the situation. He didnât like it when he wasnât in control. And even I was done with this. I am tired of this stupid cat and mouse game.
Whoever those rogues are, they will die a slow and painful death. I will make them suffer for hurting Templar.
Hell will seem like a four-star paradise when I am done with them.
