Chapter 227
The Imposter Bride
Callum thought to himself. âOf all the people he could bother, why did that scum Magnus have to mess with his Buttercup?â
If Magnus didnât back off, Callum would be sure to give him a taste of his own medicine. He was no pushover, despite what Magnus might have thought!
Were it not for the consideration of Nataliaâs feelings. Callum would have landed more than just one punch on Magnus!
The sounds of rage and destruction reached Nataliaâs ears, but she said nothing She just leaned tiredly against Callumâs chest, closing her eyes She felt exhausted, and her heart was empty. She felt like a lone boat adrift on the ocean, with no anchor or direction Perhaps, she thought, if she got engaged to Callum, Magnus would finally leave her alone.
Callum noticed Natalia slowly lose her strength, so he scooped her up and made his way towards the exit of Orange Horizon Outside the building, a crowd of reporters armed with cameras and microphones had gathered. Clearly, they were here for the juicy gossip. They had received a tip-off earlier in the day about Rowellâs lostâ
andâfound daughter, Natalia.
As soon as they saw her being cared out by Callum, they became excited Everyone knew that Callum was the Duke favored by the Queen, and the fact that he was holding the Count of Rowellâs daughter so intimately indicated that their relationship was not ordinary This was sure to be big news!
As Callum carned Natalia through the revolving glass doors, the reporters swarmed around them, sticking their cameras and microphones in their faces.
âDuke Callum, is that the Count of Rowellâs daughter in your arms?â
âDuke Callum, are you two a couple?â
âIs it true that the girt Count Rowell spent so much effort finding is named Natalia?â
âMiss Natalia, could you share your feelings about Duke Callum?â
âMiss Natalia, we heard you work at Orange Honzon and recently won the Global Designer Award. Is that true?â
The reporters asked questions all at once, creating a chaotic scene reminiscent of a bustling marketplace Natalia, already feeling down, was further imitated by this unexpected media frenzy. She wanted to shout and tell everyone she didnât like the attention!
But she knew that if she did that, it would only bring more attention to her Sensing Nataliaâs discomfort, Callum shielded her face with his hand to protect her from the blinding camera flashes. He whispered to her. âDonât worry. Buttercup Itâs just some annoying reporters. Weâll get out of here soon With that Callum tried to make his way through the crowd, but the persistent reporters followed them wherever they went.
Finally, Callum stopped and turned to face the reporters, his gaze cold. I donât care who you are or which newspaper you work for Iâm just warning you not to cross my line. The consequences of angering me are not something you can bearâ
At Callumâs words, the reporters fell silent. They looked at each other unsure of whether to leave or not These reporters were no fools. They knew when to retreat They quickly dispersed, watching as Callum walked away with Natalia in his arms.
Once they were away from the crowd, Natalia finally relaxed She snuggled into Callumâs arms and whispered, âCal, put me down. I can walk on my own.â
Callum shook his head, and his voice was softening âDonât worry about it. I donât want those vultures to get a better look at you.â
His girl was too beautiful to be ogled by just anyonel Natalia blushed at Callumâs words, remembering how Magnus had nearly ripped her clothes earlier. If it werenât for Callum, she would have been utterly humiliated. âThank you, Calâ Natalia said sincerely As she spoke, Callum started the car and shook his head. âSweetheart, you know what I want isnât your thanksâ
Natalia knew what Callum meant. She hesitated but didnât respond. The only way to cut ties with Magnus was to get engaged to Callum She could lie to anyone, but she couldnât lie to herself. She didnât love Callum She owed him, for he saved her life, and she had promised to marry him.
He had waited for her for twenty years. Could she really not marry him for that? That was the reason why she didnât want to have anything to do with Magnus anymore âCal, âNatalia started, biting her lip She was trying to find the right words to comfort Callum.
Callum, who was driving, kept glancing at Natalia through the rearâview mirror He was worried that she might say something to reject him. He quickly said, âItâs okay, sweetheart I know youâre confused right now. But if you donât make a decision soon, Magnus wonât stop bothering you.â
Natalia fell silent considering Callumâs words After saying these words, Callum couldnât help but despise himself. Had he really stooped so low to take advantage of Natalieâs vulnerable state, to pressure her into making a decision?
Indeed, Natalie, after hearing Callumâs words and remembering Magnus raging and obsessive demeanor, felt a light tremor in her heart and reluctantly said, âCal.
Iâm not worth the sacrifices youâre making for me.â
âDonât be silly. Buttercup Itâs not like what you think. As long as itâs you, and just because itâs you, everything is worth it,â Callum said with deep affection, his voice sounding irresistibly charming âBut, Cal, Iâm not sure about my feelingsâ¦â
Natalie lowered her head with some guilt. How could she not know how good Callum had been to her?
