Chapter 133
Third Person POV.
There was a lot of tension in the room as Kayden and Angela faced each other. Kayden had a rather displeased look on his face, while Angela looked like she couldnât wait to be rid of him.
âI canât believe you of all people let Marlene manipulate you into making such a decision, Angela,â Kayden accused, his voice edged with frustration. âHow could you let her talk you into committing murder? Just how?â
He had been taken aback when he heard from Marlene that Angela was the one responsible for the accident that put Amber in critical condition. He had thought that Marlene was the one responsible, but to find out that Angela had done it on Marleneâs orders made him even more shocked.
Angelaâs lips curled into a disdainful sneer as she shot back, âYou think I had a choice? Marlene had people watching me and threatening me, Kayden. I had no other option,â she responded defensively.
Kaydenâs eyes narrowed with skepticism. âYou couldâve found a way out if you really wanted to. But no, you jumped at the chance to do her bidding, didnât you? Admit it, Angela. Youâve been waiting for an excuse to rid yourself of Amber ever since Richard married her, so you decided to do as Marlene wanted so that you could use such a dumb excuse to justify your actions.â
Angelaâs jaw tightened, but she maintained her defiant stance. âDonât pretend like you donât want her gone too. You should be happy that I did what neither you nor Marlene could have done since youâre
both cowards.â
Kayden let out a scoff of disbelief. âAnd yet, here we are, and sheâs still alive. Your little plan failed, Angela. Marlene pushed you to the edge of a cliff, and you just let her do it. Now youâre right where she wants you, and itâs all because of your foolishness.â
Angelaâs eyes flashed with irritation. âShe might not be dead yet, Kayden, but sheâs barely alive. ! heard sheâs fighting for her life, which means sheâll likely be dead soon enough.â
Kayden shook his head in exasperation. âBut until then, sheâs still breathing. And youâve become another pawn in Marleneâs game. Congratulations, Angela. You played right into her hands, and I cannot save you, nor do I think I want to.â
Silence settled between them, heavy and suffocating. The reality of the situation hit Angela all at once, and all she could do was wonder how she could save herself now.

Finally, she broke the silence, her voice laced with desperation. âOkay, fine, Iâll admit that I made a mistake. I shouldnât have listened to Marlene or tried to kill Amber. But now that itâs too late for regrets, what do you suggest I do, Kayden? I canât undo whatâs been done, and Iâm going to need your help to get out of this mess.â
Kayden sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair in frustration. âFor starters, youâll need to choose because the Marlene I know is most likely going to try to get you to clean up the mess.â
Angela nodded grimly. âAnd if I donât?â
Kaydenâs expression hardened. âThen youâll be next on her list. So here are your options: you would either have to finish what you started by ensuring that Amber doesnât survive, or youâll have to leave the country as soon as possible.â
âI have to leave the country. And why is that? Itâs not like anybody knows that Iâm the one responsible for what happened to Amber. Iâm pretty sure theyâre going to be suspecting either you or Marlene, but definitely not me,â Angela retorted, not seeing any sense in her having to leave the
country.
Kayden let out a dark chuckle before responding to her. âWell, maybe if you werenât stupid enough to step out of your car when the accident happened and allowed yourself to be caught by the surveillance cameras around, just maybe then your name wouldnât have appeared on the suspect list,â he retorted.
Colors drained from Angelaâs face as the meaning of Kaydenâs words dawned on her. âAre you being serious right now, Kayden?â she asked.
âWould I be joking?â Kayden retorted. âA contact of mine who is on the case told me that you are the prime suspect at the moment, and Richard already knows this. Now, I know you think that he still has some leniency toward you, but that leniency has expired, Angela. You know that idiot is obsessed with Amber, so Iâm pretty sure heâs coming for you soon,â he explained, a hint of amusement in his tone as he spoke.
Angelaâs hands trembled as she mustered up the courage to speak, her voice quivering with a mixture of fear and anger. âKayden, I need you to leave. Now.â
Kaydenâs eyes widened in shock. âYouâre asking me to leave? Instead of begging for my help, Angela, do you realize what youâre saying?â
Angelaâs expression hardened, her eyes narrowing with a mix of annoyance and distrust. âI know exactly what Iâm saying, Kayden. Youâre not here to help me. Youâre here to taunt me and revel in my misery. Iâm pretty sure youâve been looking for the perfect chance to get rid of me now that Iâm a

lover you no longer need, and now youâre here to watch me spiral for your sick entertainment. I donât
care how bad the situation gets, but I wonât let you toy with me any longer, Kayden. Get out of my
sight!â
Kayden scoffed, a bitter edge to his voice as he retorted, âYou think Iâm here for your amusement?
Believe me, Angela, I would have tried to help you. Not because I care about you or anything, but
because I wonât let Marlene get what she wants. All you needed to do was beg me earnestly, and you
would have been out of the country before the day ended.â
Angelaâs gaze softened slightly, a flicker of doubt creeping into her eyes. âYou expect me to believe
that? Are you forgetting how well I know you? Itâs clear that Iâm just a lover you no longer needâsomeone disposable. And you would love for me to be gone since itâd be one less burden.â
Kayden locked eyes with Angela, amusement in his gaze. âI guess youâre right, Angela. You are no longer necessary to me. But I would have helped you regardless. Now, since you donât want my help,
Iâll leave you to go ahead and deal with Richard on your own. Letâs see how far that gets you.â
With those final words, Kayden turned and walked out of Angelaâs apartment, leaving her standing there
trembling with a mix of emotions. The weight of the situation settled heavily on her shoulders as
she rushed into her room, her hands shaking as she began to pack her bags.
Thoughts raced through Angelaâs mind as she packed, her heart pounding in her chest. She suddenly started to feel like she was running out of time, and the last thing she wanted was for Richard to
show up here.
The sudden sound of the doorbell sent a shiver down Angelaâs spine, causing her hands to tremble
involuntarily. Panic set in as she considered the possibilities of who could be standing outside her
door.
Could it be Richard, the police, or even Marleneâs men coming to silence her on Marleneâs orders?
She cautiously made her way to the door, moving as silently as possible, trying to steady her racing heart. Peering through the monitor, her breath caught in her throat as she saw the figure outside. It was the apartment managerâs familiar face that brought a wave of relief washing over her.
With newfound courage, Angelá opened the door to greet the older man, her voice carrying a slight tremor. âMr. Johnson, what brings you here? Is there something wrong?â
The apartment manager adjusted his glasses, and his voice was warm and gentle. âMiss Montez, I apologize for the intrusion. I just wanted to let you know that there will be some maintenance work happening in the building next week. It might cause some noise during the daytime. I thought it wa

With a nod and a kind smile, the apartment manager bid Angela farewell and started to walk away. Angela exhaled a deep breath, happy that she was still safe.
But just as she was about to close the door, it was violently pushed open, causing Angela to stumble backward and fall on her butt, and her eyes widened in shock as Richard barged into her apartment.
She looked up at him, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and disbelief. âRichard? What are you doing here? How did youâ¦
Richardâs expression remained emotionless as he interrupted her, his voice cold and devoid of any sympathy. âLong time, no see, Angela.â
