Chapter 125 - Shes a Bit of a Tiger
Beauty and the Bodyguard
âHe wants to meet you, but I told him Iâd have to ask you about it first.â Huaijun said. âI donât know what kind of mission youâre on right now, after all, and I donât wanna meddle in your business too much. You donât have to meet him if you canât.â
âMission......â Lin Yi scratched at his nose a little as he smiled bitterly. âI donât know what this mission even is, to be honest with you...... Iâll meet him- heâs your saviour, isnât he? Of course Iâll meet him.â
âAh? You donât have to force it......â Huaijun was touched- Lin Yi wasnât someone whoâd meddle with other peopleâs business, and he was sure that Lin Yi wouldnât be bothered to meet some random stranger if it werenât for Huaijunâs involvement.
âThereâs nothing to force......Iâm really free anyway.â Lin Yi said with a smile. âIâll also have an easier time in Songshan if I have a criminal police captain backing me up, right?â
âAlright then. You set the time.â Huaijun said without any bullshitting- his friendship with Lin Yi was well past the point of them having to waste their breath on thanks with each other.
âTomorrow then? Tell Wang Zhifeng that you need me for a written statement at the police station tomorrow, and Iâll be able to get out nicely. I donât wanna skip class if possible......â Lin Yi said as he pointed in the doorâs direction.
âKay. Iâll communicate that to him later.â Huaijun said with a nod- it wasnât anything much.
âAh, I forgot to give you the medicine I made. Iâll give it to you later- your body will lose a lot of tension after you finish the first stage treatment. Iâll make the second stage medicine for you later, and youâll be back to normal in about three months.â Lin Yi said.
âThree months?â Huaijun asked, completely stunned as he stared at Lin Yi.
âWell, it can be two months if it goes well.â Lin Yi said, mistaking Huaijunâs tone and thinking that three months was too long for him. âEastern medicine soup isnât known for being delicious, but youâll have to endure it for two months for your body to recover......â
âAre you joking, Lin Yi? Iâll be back to normal in just two months?â Huaijun was getting a little excited. âAre you serious? The doctor said itâll be a great fortune if my condition doesnât worsen, and youâre telling me I can recover from this?â
âUgh...... So itâs not about the bitterness in the medicine?â Lin Yi smiled. âWhat, donât trust me?â
âOf course I do! I trust you, but itâs just- itâs so shocking!â Huaijun said, utterly trusting of Lin Yiâs words despite his surprise. Theyâd manage to get out of many tough situations back on the battlefields with just Lin Yiâs accurate judgements alone, even making a comeback against an enemy or two when they were being chased down. Lin Yiâs words, as a result, held absolute reign in the team, his orders always carried out without any hesitation in the slightest. âYou...... Bitterness in the soup? I donât even feel bullets when they hit me, you think Iâll be afraid of some bitterness in the soup? Mocking me......â
âHeh...... Donât be too sure, Iâve seen the most fearless of people cower before a syringe or bitter medicine......â Lin Yi laughed. âCome to the classroom with me later, Iâll give it to you.â
âCaptain, youâre really-!â Huaijun had no words for the joy inside him- heâd prepared for the worst, living each day as if it were his last, waiting for the painkillers and massaging to lose their effect one day...... He didnât expect Lin Yi to be able to cure him completely!
Huaijun still found it hard to suppress his stunned joy, even if he did treat Lin Yi as a godly existence in the team. Lin Yi was young, and he should be somewhere around seven or eight years younger than him, close to Yiâs age- yet the guy was so unbelievably resourceful!! He knew his way around everything, and Huaijun couldnât help but wonder where Lin Yi learned all that knowledge from.
âHonestly though, I kinda miss the days in the warzones......â Lin Yi said, lamenting upon hearing Huaijun call him âcaptainâ.
âYeah, and Yi-â Huaijun cut his sentence off abruptly as he noticed Lin Yiâs face change at the name......
âLetâs not talk about that......â Lin Yi sighed. âWhatâs past is past.â
âBut...... Yiâs still looking for you, and I......â Huaijun felt bad for Yi, but it was no wish of his to go against his captainâs intentions......
âThen tell her that Eagleâs dead.â Lin Yi said faintly, a hint of sadness in his eyes. Indeed- heâd been given a new identity, and a new mission. It was a reincarnation, a new life thatâd end again as the mission was completed.
âBut......â Huaijun was just about to say something else when Lin Yi interrupted him.
âJust tell her that the next time you see her.â Lin Yi said. âLetâs not lead her on, yeah? You know how it is with people like us, thereâs no telling when weâll die on a mission one day...... You donât want her to be waiting for me forever, do you?â
Huaijun only lowered his head, helpless- Lin Yi was right: their lives were far more dangerous than the police job he had right now. Lin Yi was an asura, something like a godly entity- but who was to say that even a god of war would live forever?n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âThen you and Song......â Huaijun said, suddenly remembering how intimate the two were rumored to be.
âIâve nothing to do with her- do you believe me?â Lin Yi smiled bitterly, not expecting the news from the hospital to reach even Huaijunâs ears. Rumors spread like wildfire, it seemed.
âAlright, Iâll believe you.â Huaijun nodded. âThough, if we look at the two of you from an occupational perspective- you guys would make quite an item, honestly. That girl always charges to the front, always throwing herself into the most dangerous of situations whenever possible......â
âHaha, yeah, I could tell- sheâs a bit of a tiger, isnât she.â Lin Yi laughed. âSheâs cute, too; maybe you could consider her.â
âAge gapâs too much. She treats me like an elder brother, itâs not very appropriate for me to be thinking of stuff like that about her, right?â Huaijun said with a laugh. âAnd itâs not like you donât know- Iâm not the one who gets to decide who I marry. My family has their own agenda and stuff, always thinking about the bigger picture...... Iâm guessing theyâll arrange a partner for me the year after the next.â
âWell, letâs go then. Iâll get you the medicine.â Lin Yi said, standing up and making his way to the door.
Wang Zhifeng had been waiting at the hallway quietly, walking to Lin Yi with quick steps upon seeing the door open. âWell, Captain Yang? Is everything good?â
âEverythingâs fine, Lin Yi was just acting in self defense. Heâll have to come to the station tomorrow for a written statement, and weâll be done.â Huaijun nodded. âIâm headed to Lin Yiâs classroom with him for some materials, you donât have to worry about anything at all, Mr. Wang.â
âOh...... I see, thatâs good news.â Zhifeng said as he relaxed a little.
