Chapter 17
The Lord Mayor Falls in Love with Me
The young waiter put on a professional smile and asked, âAre you a friend of Mr. Charles? Do you have an appointment with him?â
Joey shook her head, âDo I need to make an appointment with him? Is he really so busy?â
But on a second thought, Allen was an elegant and handsome man and there must be plenty of women who would ask for him. Suddenly her heart sunk at the thought of it.
The waiter said, âSorry, if you arenât Mr. Charlesâs friend and donât have an appointment with him, Iâm afraid I canât bring you to see him. Is there anything else I could do for you?â
âThen...Iâd like a Bloody Mary.â
She didnât want to leave without seeing Allen. Besides, there was nothing at home she could go back to but loud noise in the next room. She might as well stay and kill some time with a glass of wine.
âAll right, just a minute.â
The waiter nodded politely and left. Soon he brought Joey a glass of red Bloody Mary.
While sipping the wine, she looked around in hope of finding Allen, if she was destined to see him again.
âHi, beautiful, do you mind if I sit here?â
A beautiful woman, who wore a heavy makeup in a black deep v-neck short dress, came over to her with a big smile on her face and a glass of wine in her hand.
âEh...â
Joey froze for a moment before she nodded, âSure.â
If it were a strange man, she would certainly have turned him down. But it was a woman, so she was less alert.
The beautiful woman sat next to Joey, âWhy are you drinking alone? Where is your boyfriend?â
âI donât have a boyfriend.â
Joey instantly shook her head. After finding about Ben and Vivianâs betrayal, she hadnât had anything to do with him anymore. As for Allen Charles, he was her first man, but he was far from being her boyfriend.
Leaning toward her, the woman boldly put her arm around her slender waist and said, âIn that case, we should become good friends, what do you think?â
Joeyâs body stiffened. The woman was acting so strangely. It seemed she was implying something. Was she...a lesbian?â
She was intimidated by her thought immediately. She pushed the woman away and stood up, trying to explain, âI...I like men.â
The woman was surprised to hear her blunt explanation. She chuckled, took Joeyâs hand, and pulled Joey onto her lap.
âI like men too, but sometimes Iâd like to try something new, so I like women too. You are a woman, and you can do the same. Itâs really thrilling.â
The woman tried to seduce her.
âNo...Iâd rather not.â
Joey blushed and tried to stand up. But the woman held her waist and her hands tightly. She couldnât break free.
She was angry and frightened.
âLet go of her!â
Suddenly there came a familiar male voice from above. The next minute she was pulled out of the womanâs confinement by a pair of long strong arms into which she soon fell into.
She looked up to find that it was Allen Charles, the man she had missed so much.
Holding Joey, who was trembling with fear, in his arms, Allen stared at the woman sullenly and said, âYou are incurable. She is my girl. Stay away from her from now on!â
The woman smiled disapprovingly, âYouâd better watch out if you want me to keep my hands off her.â
She winked at Joey and left.
Leaning on his chest, Joeyâs heart was racing as he had said âshe is my girlâ.
âAre you all right? Are you scared?â
Allen assumed that she was frightened for having been harassed by the woman. He lowered his head and looked at her with his gentle eyes.
