The Wrong Quarterback: EPILOGUE
The Wrong Quarterback: A Football Romance (The Wrong Player Series Book 1)
The announcerâs voice echoed through the stadium, loud and clear, and thenâ¦
âWith the first pick of this yearâs NFL draft, the Dallas Renegades selectâ¦â He paused as we all held our breath. âParker Davis.â
The world seemed to freeze, then burst into a thousand colors. I squeezed Parkerâs hand so hard it probably hurt, but he didnât flinch. He turned to me, his eyes bright with excitement and disbelief. The smile that spread across his face was everythingâyears of dreams, sweat, and sacrifice shining in that one moment.
I couldnât stop the tears as I whispered, âYou did it.â
Without another word, he pulled me in and kissed me, not seeming to care that there were a million cameras pointed at us. When he pulled back, he was still holding onto my hand, his thumb brushing over my knuckles like he needed the steadying just as much as I did.
Parker glanced over at his mom, who was standing beside us, misty-eyed, proudâ¦and the healthiest Iâd seen her. Sheâd made it her goal to be here for this, working hard every day so she could leave her treatment center and be here for Parker.
He kept hold of my hand as he leaned over to hug her. âIâm so proud of you, son,â she said, her face beaming. âYour dadâhe would have been so proud, too.â She was crying then, but unlike in the pastâ¦they were happy tears. Which was a huge step up from how it had been since I met her.
Walker and Cole came over, each of them giving him a hugâ¦while Parker still held onto my hand.
âParkie-Poo, showing us up,â Cole said with a grin, like he hadnât just won a Grammy two weeks earlier.
âSomeone had to make this family legitimate,â Parker smirked.
Walker rolled his eyes. âSo cocky already. Youâre going to be insufferable, I can tell.â
Parker winked at me. âLooks like Dallas just got an upgrade in the Davis brother department. Hope itâs ready.â
Walker scoffed. âTell me that when youâve won a Lombardi Trophy, like Iâve won a Stanley Cup.â
Parkerâs smile widened. âFair.â
He turned back to me. âShit. This is happening,â he said, sounding nervous as they stepped away.
âI think theyâre waiting for you,â I whispered, wide-eyed because everyone was staring at us. Parker may have been used to thatâbut I still wasnât.
He kissed my hand. âI love you,â he murmured, before he finally let go and walked toward the stage. I watched him go, feeling like my heart was going to burst because I loved him so fucking much.
Parker stepped up, took the hat from the commissioner, and looked out over the crowd, grinning at Matty and Jace across the room before his eyes found me again. He winked.
He was going to give me a heart attack one of these days.
But what a way to go.
âYou are so sexy,â he rasped, pulling at his tie as he backed me into our living room.
âMmh, right back at you,â I breathed, stumbling on airâ¦because I was very drunk. Parker caught me right before I fell, and I giggled.
âMy hero,â I crooned, and he grinned.
âSometimes.â
âFeel free to be as bad as you want tonight,â I purred, and his eyes widened.
âIt sounds almost like youâre offering me a present, baby.â He grabbed me around the waist and hauled me to his chest.
âYep. Whatever you want.â I smacked a kiss on his lips, tangling my fingers in his hair because I couldnât help myself. âI need you,â I whispered.
Parker glanced around wildly, his gaze finally setting on something behind me.
I glanced back and saw he was staring at the Steinway in the corner. In celebration of my surgery with the countryâs foremost hand surgeonâthat he had found and paid for as a surpriseâheâd replaced the one heâd already bought me with my dream piano.
The surgery had been a success. I still had tremors occasionally, and I wasnât going to be playing professionally like Iâd once dreamed, but I was able to play whole songs now. Which had greatly improved my mental state.
It was another thing heâd given me that Iâd thought Iâd lost.
âI want to eat you out on that piano,â he murmured, walking me backward.
âIâm pretty sure thereâs a movie with that kind of scene,â I laughed, the sound coming out as more of a moan, because I was already wet thinking about his tongue and all it could do.
âThere is. And Iâve been thinking of reenacting that scene since the moment I found out you could play.â
Parker lifted me effortlessly, guiding me back until I felt the cool, hard edge of the piano keys underneath me, a cascade of rich, resonant notes echoing through the room. I braced myself, hands gripping his shoulders as he moved between my knees, his eyes locked on mine with that fierce, unwavering intensity that made everything else fall away. The low notes hummed quietly beneath me, each movement a gentle chord.
âWell, this is a good start,â I said breathlessly.
He laughed, the wicked sound sliding over my skin.
His hands slid from my waist, up between my breasts, and then he firmly pushed me back until I was sprawled across the piano top.
I watched as he sank onto the piano bench, his gaze glittering in the faint light of the room.
âSpread your legs,â he murmured, and I obediently hooked my legs on his shoulders, more dissonant chords filling the room as I moved.
âAnd I think these need to go.â I had been wearing a dress, and so he had easy access to slip his finger under my thong lineâ¦and pull.
I moaned as the cool air of the room hit my coreâ¦and then I was really moaning as his hot, wet tongue slid through my folds, spreading me open.
âYes,â I whimpered.
As his tongue slid into me, a gentle pressure, the piano keys responded with a soft, accidental melody, each note blending into the next in quiet, haunting echoes that would stay in my mind as the sexiest soundtrack to our love I could ever imagine. The sound filled the room, rising and falling as I writhed against the keys.
And when I came, the music seemed to crescendo, the final note lingering, hanging in the air as exquisite pleasure soared through me.
âYouâre mine,â he murmured as he stood up and undid his suit pants.
And as he slid into me, I could feel his claim. I could feel how much I really was his. But the most amazing thing wasâ¦he was mine too.
