Chapter 37
Love After Divorce
Chapter 37:.
Stella quickly withdrew her hand from his palm, as if she was the one taking advantage of him. What a show-off! He was getting ruder and ruder.
Not only had he taken advantage of her earlier on the stairs, but now he was also in her grandmotherâs living room, doing his own thing. To top it off, she was getting married next month.
Stella turned away angrily. âI canât clean your pants. When we get back, you can take them off and Iâll wash them.â No way was she going to clean a manâs body part. At best, she could wipe the stain off his pants and wash them later.
RK raised his eyebrows, looking at her, but said nothing. He neither agreed nor refused, but at least he didnât ask her to clean his pants again.
The sauce was dark, and with his black pants, the stain was barely visible. After a good while, they both finished eating and sat down uncomfortably because they didnât know what to say.
Grandma came out of the bathroom after a long while. It was as if she had deliberately given them some private space.
As she watched them both, watching their expressions closely, she noticed her granddaughterâs flushed face, but neither spoke.
Grace looked at them and smiled, thinking that Stella was simply too shy to say anything. From their expressions, she guessed that their relationship was improving.
Grace sat down across from them and asked, âStella, are you done talking, did you eat, did you like it?â
Stella pouted, what could she say? With such a cold man sitting next to her, how could she eat? She was too scared to do anything. âGrandma, try this food! Itâs good and itâs your favorite,â RK said, serving her some food on the plate with her injured hand. But wasnât her hand supposed to be injured? Thatâs why he needed someone to feed him. But there he was, trying to please his grandmother, showing no sign of pain.
Grace took the plate from him and gently stopped him. âYour hand is still hurt. Youâll hurt your wound. You donât need to serve me; I can do it myself.â
Stella contemplated the scene before her. The atmosphere seemed very warm and harmonious. But she felt out of place, like an outsider in that warm scene. It was as if they were grandmother and grandson, and she was the outsider.
âRene, you and Stella shouldnât always come to the hospital to see this old woman. Youâd better go out to the movies or to the street,â Grace suggested kindly.

âI know young lovers today like to do that. But look at you two, always here with me. Itâs such a waste of time. You barely have time to be alone together.â
Grace was very considerate of them. She was kindly giving them advice. Stella quickly interrupted, not giving RK a chance to respond.
âGrandma, Mr. Kingston is a very busy man with a lot of work to do each day. We shouldnât waste his time.â She didnât mention how busy she was; she knew her grandmother would give her a hard time if she did. Instead, she used RK as a shield.
Anyway, she didnât want to spend any more time alone with him. It was bad enough seeing his face every day at work, and now he was visiting his grandmother.
If it werenât for her desire to spend time with Grace, she wouldnât want to look at him at all. But now, his grandmother was still thinking about his love life and trying to create opportunities for them to be together.
Forget the fact that this man was her ex-husband. He was about to get married next month, but he couldnât seem to control himself. He had a fiancée, but he wouldnât admit it in front of his grandmother. What was he trying to do?
Graceâs smile faltered slightly as she noticed Stella trying to reject her suggestions, making her feel a little embarrassed. But it was RK who opened his mouth and said, âIâm willing to spend more time on a date with Miss Richard.â
Stella was speechless, what kind of performance was this? She glared at him, her eyes telling him, âHow shameless.â He was lying to his grandmother, claiming he didnât have a girlfriend, and he was trying to deceive her. Now he knew she was aware of the truth, but he was still trying to deceive her.
Grace was delighted with her grandson-in-law. She smiled at Stella and said, âStella, if you and Rene get married and have children in the future, you will be very happy. See how much he loves you.â
âHahaha,â Stella almost laughed at her grandmotherâs words.
Marry and have children with him? Indeed, she had already married that man and had a five-year-old son. But what had happened? Was she happy? Not at all. Not only had he divorced her, but she didnât even love Adrian.
Stella merely lowered her head and said nothing. Grace looked at her granddaughter, noting her lack of enthusiasm. But she continued to insist, âStella, if you marry Rene, I will be at your wedding.â
Stella looked at the man sitting next to her as if nothing had happened. âGrandma, wait until next month. Youâll know everything.â She didnât want her grandmother to be fooled anymore by that man, but she didnât know what kind of spell he had cast on her.
Grace didnât believe her, but she trusted RK more, so she decided to wait. When RK and Sophia got married next month, her grandmother would see the truth.
Grace looked at RK and saw that he wasnât saying anything, so she also shut her mouth and stopped talking about it.
With dinner over, Stella dreaded the thought of going back to him, just like last time. Today she decided to wait for him to leave before going home. It was too uncomfortable to stay alone in the car with him.
Grace, realizing that it was getting late and that neither of them had any intention of leaving, said, âStellaâ¦. Rene⦠Itâs getting late. You should go back now.â It was obvious that she wanted them to leave together, but Stella was unwilling.
âGrandma, Iâm not leaving yet. I want to spend more time with you. Itâs not often that I get to be with you. You donât know how rude and mean my boss is. He makes us work overtime constantly, so I hardly have time to visit you.â
Stella knew that her grandmother didnât realize that she and RK worked at the same company or that he was her boss, so she took the opportunity to stab him in the back. Grace, of course, didnât know that, so naturally she came to his defense.
âWhat kind of company do you work for? What kind of boss asks his employees to work overtime off the clock? No wonder at your age you donât have time to date. His work is affecting your personal life.â
âYes, Grandma. Not only that, my bossâs character is terrible. Heâs a playboy with many women on the side, and despite having so many, he wonât even admit it. Grandma, donât you think heâs a villain?â.
Stella felt pleased with herself. At last she could let off steam and scold that man in front of her grandmother with her head held high. And the best part? He was sitting right next to her grandmother.
Grace nodded her head, looking disgusted. âStella, I think your bossâs character is seriously flawed. You should not be working for him. Resign as soon as possible and work with Rene instead.â
But Grace wasnât one to miss an opportunity to bring them together. âWork with Rene, and heâll take good care of you.â
Stella twisted her lips, thinking, âWhat bad luck! Why does everything have to involve this man?â. She had said all that in the hope that her grandmother would help her get transferred back to France or to another branch. But instead, her grandmother was trying to pair them up again.
RK seized the moment and said, âMiss Richard, if you work here, Iâm sure Iâll take good care of you.â
He deliberately emphasized the words âI will take good care of herâ. Stella listened to his words and felt her heart flutter in her chest. Try as she might, nothing seemed to go right for her.
He forced a smile. âForget it. Itâs no good working for Mr. Kingstonâs company.â
Grace looked at her and rolled her eyes, waving her hand dismissively.
âOkay, okay, itâs getting late. You should get back.â If they couldnât stay together, her granddaughterâs future would be ruined. If it werenât for Reneâs good temperament, no man would be willing to accept her granddaughter as a wife. Thinking this way, Grace believed Rene was very good husband material.
Stella did not want to leave with RK. She sat on the edge of the bed, refusing to move. âNo, Grandma, I donât want to leave yet. I want to stay with you a little longer. Let Mr. Kingston go first.â If he left, so would she.
But if he stayed, she would be forced to carpool with the playboy again.
Grace told Stella to leave because she wanted them to leave together, but now, looking at her granddaughter, RK just stood there, showing no intention of leaving. It was already dark, but inside the pavilion it was still very lively.
RK sat on the couch and looked at everything as if he was not going to leave and was willing to accompany her to the end. He opened his thin lips and said, âStella, I will wait and accompany you.
I will leave after I send you home. It is late and it is not safe for you to go alone. I wonât feel at ease.â
Stella was speechless. His attitude was so direct.
He called her by her first name as if they were intimates. Stella thought that, with his acting chops in front of her grandmother, this man could win an Oscar with no problem. But she refused to give up and said, âMr. Kingston neednât bother.
He still has a son at home and needs to get back soon. He can go ahead. Iâve already asked a friend to pick me up. Iâll be fine.â
She tried to use every trick and excuse she knew to avoid leaving the hospital with him. But thenâ¦
âHey Stella, didnât you ask me if I had a charger this afternoon? Didnât you say your phone was out of battery? How did you contact your friend?â
Great. It wasnât her fault, it was her grandmotherâs fault. Just like that, all her lies were exposed in front of this man. âGrandma,â Stella was very angry. Why couldnât her grandmother show some respect for her? Why did she have to say something like that?
âKnock, knock, knock.â
While they were chatting, there was a knock at the door. A nurse opened it and said, âVisiting hours are over. Please go home and let the patient rest soon.â
