Chapter 33
Love After Divorce
Chapter 33:.
Yesterday, her grandmother had not been at Richardâs family home, so how was she to know that the man had admitted he had a fiancée and that they were to be married next month? Stella, donât try to fool me.
Yesterday morning, when Rene came to see me at the hospital, I asked him what he thought of you. I also asked him if he had a girlfriend or not. He told me that in these six years he had not had a girlfriend. Stella, how can you say such things about René?â
Stella didnât know what to say. That man was so shameless. He kept lying to her grandmother. If he had a girlfriend, he had a girlfriend. If he had a fiancée, he had a fiancée. What was the problem?
Why couldnât this man admit it? In all these years, heâd only had to tell his grandmother, but nowâ¦.
That damn man⦠He kept lying to his grandmother, claiming he hadnât had a girlfriend all this time. Did he want his grandmother to try to set them up again? What was that man thinking?
The more Stella thought about it, the angrier she got. It was obvious that RK had a girlfriend, so why wouldnât she admit it?
But Stella also knew that whatever she said, her grandmother wasnât going to believe her. She had underestimated the man.
Because of her grandmother, she was taking his side over her own granddaughter?
âStella, you canât argue with me. Rene said he will come to see me later. When he comes, you can ask him yourself if he has a girlfriend or not.â Grace looked at her and shook her head as if Stella was just causing trouble, while what she said was the plain truth.
Grace thought of something and added, âStella, I know you donât like Rene, but you canât accuse him like that. Heâs a good man.â
âAm I accusing him? Is he a good man?â thought Stella bitterly. The more she heard her grandmother praise him, the angrier she became. She was sure she couldnât compete with that man when it came to scheming.
This was really something. He had already won his grandmotherâs heart. Now, whatever he said, his grandmother no longer believed him.
On the contrary, she even blamed her for not understanding him. It was also a very important skillâ¦

Grace was quick to mention that RK would visit her in the hospital today, and eventually he came. Stella thought, âSpeak of the devil, and the devil is here.â A familiar knock sounded at the door. The way he knocked was as if a well-mannered gentleman was outside.
Grace had long since recognized his distinctive stroke. She quickly knew who it was. He looked even happier than when he saw Stella. She cheerfully got out of bed and went to open the door for him.
Stella didnât move from the couch, pretending not to hear the knock. She didnât want to see him anymore. She looked sideways and saw the manâs hypocritical behavior.
âGrandma, why did you get up to answer the door? I would have come in myself,â he said in a soft, warm voice. See, how kind he sounded. If you didnât know him, youâd think he was his grandmotherâs real grandson.
âWhy wouldnât I? Itâs good to see you,â Grace said cheerfully.
RK said nothing to the old woman. He handed her the items he was carrying and said kindly, âGrandma, these are some medicines I had medicines brought from abroad. They are very effective. Please try them.
âOh, Rene. You donât have to do this. Every time you come in, you bring something. If you keep this up, this place will become a supermarket instead of a hospital,â Grace said with a gentle smile.
âCome in⦠Donât stay outside. Stella is here too. Why did you come separately? Next time, come together to see me.â After bringing RK into the room, Grace asked him to sit next to Stella.
Stella remained seated on the couch and her grandmother asked the man to sit next to her. RK didnât hesitate and quickly took a seat next to her. Grace looked at her granddaughterâs angry face, her lips slightly twitching in embarrassment.
Stella claimed that RK was not a good man, but when Grace saw them sitting together, she thought they made a very good couple.
Grace thought, âHeâs such a good man. He doesnât even mind Stellaâs angry face. He has such a good temper. In the future, when they get married, heâll know how to handle her tantrums.â
If Stella knew what her grandmother was thinking, she would have told her, âGrandma, you have such mean thoughts. Because six years ago, when Grace arranged her marriage, the situation was exactly the opposite of this.â
Grace smiled and said, âRene, Stella is not very happy today. She says you have a fiancée and she feels jealous and unhappy.â
After speaking, he signaled RK with his eyes, telling him to quickly cajole Stella. Stella was furious, but there was nothing she could do.
She felt that, as time went on, her grandmother was becoming more and more confused. That man was her ex-husband; now he was her boss, and in the future, when he married Sophia, he would become her brother-in-law. Only she knew how complicated their relationship had become.
Grace continued, âRK, I remember you said you didnât have a girlfriend, right? When you visited me last time, you told me that after you and your ex-wife divorced, there was no one else in your life, right? Iâm not wrong, am I?â
Grandma had thrown a lot of questions at her, as if she was going to believe what she said. Stella decided to take this opportunity to get some answers.
She wouldnât ask him anything personally. It was her grandmother who would ask the questions. She would let him tell her grandmother himself so that she wouldnât have any ideas about pairing them together in the future.
Stella looked at RK and said with a polite smile, âThatâs right, Kingston, your timing is perfect. Please tell my grandmother that you already have a fiancée. Donât let her misunderstand.â
RK looked at Stellaâs distressed face. There was a hint of a smile in her blue eyes. With a calm expression, he replied, âMiss Richard, I think you have misunderstood something. I donât have a fiancée. How could I have a fiancée?â.
âYouâre talking nonsense! You have a girlfriend!â Stella was fuming. That bastard! How long was he going to keep lying to her poor grandmother? Had he sold all his shame for money?
Stella glared at him and snapped, âRene Kingston, have you any shame or have you sold it all? How can you be so shameless? Youâre lying to an old person, have you no shame, are you even a man?â
Stella was so angry that she didnât care how powerful this man was. She was determined to say whatever she wanted.
Stella didnât care about her image in her grandmotherâs eyes. She wanted to see how he would refute her now. Stella wanted to make him angry so that he would reveal his true nature in front of her grandmother.
But things didnât go as planned. RK looked at her for a second and then looked away. He said nothing, not a single word.
It was as if she wasnât even speaking to him. He looked at her like she was crazy. His eyes were full of disdain and mockery.
Stella was unsuccessful in her plan to make him angry and show her true colors, but on the other hand, she had angered her grandmother. Grace stamped her foot in rage. She felt it wouldnât be long before she would die of rage because of her stupid granddaughter.
It was bad enough that Stella didnât like him and refused to be nice, but now she was questioning him whether he was a man or not.
Grace became very angry and said, âStella, how can you keep talking to Rene like this? Heâs already explained everything to you, why do you keep treating him like that?â.
Stella was convinced. No matter what she said, her grandmother didnât believe her. She only believed this man, as if RK was her real grandson.
Stella flipped through her phone, trying to find news about her and Sophiaâs wedding. But after searching for a while, she found nothing. Since the news had only spread in a close circle and had not yet been made public, she found nothing.
Stella threw the phone on the floor in frustration. She was very angry but there was nothing she could do. Grace looked at RK and worried that this might upset him. She quickly explained, âRene, please donât listen to her. My granddaughter has always been like this. She thinks too much. Donât take it to heart.â
âI donât mind,â RK replies with a faint smile.
So kind and gentle, Grace thought. After a moment, RK looked at Stella and said, âMy ex-wife was like that too. She would overthink things and liked to throw tantrums. Thatâs okay⦠Iâm used to it.â
Stellaâs eyes turned icy as she stared at him.Was his ex-wife having temper tantrums and overthinking things? What was she implying?
How dare she say he was overthinking things? When she was married to him, sometimes she didnât even come home all night and even called Sophia so many times in the middle of the night. What wife wouldnât worry about her husband behaving like that?
Was it his fault for caring? It was he who had asked her for a divorce. Stella felt that, as time went on, the man was becoming more and more unreasonable.
Grace, on the other hand, interpreted his words differently. Seeing how kind, loving and level-headed Rene seemed, she was convinced that his ex-wife must be immature and difficult.
âRene, your ex-wife was not a good match, but she was just like my granddaughter. She overthrows things and has temper tantrums. In the future, you will have to be patient with herâ¦.â.
âDonât worry, I will, Grandma,â RK calmly replied.
Stella couldnât take it anymore. She didnât care what her grandmother thought; this man deserved to be called out. But of course, she didnât want her grandmother to think she was immature, so she whistled under her breath, her voice low enough that only RK could hear.
Anyway, she was sure that this man had a very tough skin and would not do anything to her in front of her grandmother that could ruin her well-groomed image.
But Stella cried out softly.
