Chapter 30
Love After Divorce
Chapter 30:.
Adrian watched the retreat, feeling a wave of confusion. This guy looked really scary. What if he became his Darlingâs boyfriend or, worse, her stepfather?
That would not be good. He couldnât let his daughter stay with this scary guy. Why did he think he was such a good guy, Adrian wondered, pouting with his small mouth.
When she turned around to go back to Stellaâs room to get her, she noticed that Tristan had forgotten his wallet on the table.
âHe left his wallet, and itâs full of a lot of money. He must be very rich if he can forget something like that,â Adrian said. After that, he picked up the wallet and went back to his room. After looking around for a minute, he finally put it away in his childrenâs closet.
That same night, a black SUV roared through the streets like a mad horse, zigzagging between cars.
Tristanâs mind was a whirlwind. Years before, when Stella had married RK, he had thought they might eventually have a child because they had been together so long.
When Stella married RK, she had completely abandoned her world. But when he learned that they had divorced, only he knew the emotions, loneliness and other feelings hidden deep in his heart that wanted to come out.
No one in the Richard family knew that Stella had a son. Tristan had always assumed that his marriage to RK was a broken and loveless union.
But now he knew: things were not as simple as they seemed at first glance. The truth was⦠she and RK had a five-year-old son. No wonder she had rejected him â¦
Tristan could not comprehend the emotions stirring inside him. Without further ado, he drove through the streets at full speed in the middle of the night. After a while, he arrived at the Richard family home.
As he got out of the car and walked toward the house, he bumped into RK, who was already leaving with Sophia.
They both stopped dead in their tracks, staring at each other. The moonlight fell on them and their shadows lengthened into the night.
The tension between them filled the air like the smell of gunpowder. It seemed as if they were going to clash at any moment.

Sophia glanced at Tristan, who was blocking RKâs path, sensing no intention of backing away. She tugged awkwardly at his sleeve. âBrother, youâre back. RK was about toâ¦â
It was the first time she had seen her brother angry. He was stone-faced, colder than ever. Not even when she and Isabella had harassed Stella in the past had he looked so furious.
RK raised his blue eyes and looked at him, âMr. Davis, is there something youâd like to talk to me about?â When he spoke, there was a hint of contempt and arrogance in his voice. He was always like that, wherever he went.
Tristan met her gaze with the same intensity. When he finally spoke, his voice was cold and warning. âMr. Kingston, in the future, after you marry my sister, I hope you will stay out of Stellaâs life because you have no right to interfere.â
âWhat are you talking about?â Sophia tugged quickly on his arm, her eyes wide. âWhatâs wrong with you, why are you acting like this?â
She was worried; for one thing, RK was not a very good-natured person, especially now, in front of her.
One was her brother and the other her fiancé. She didnât want either of them to fight. It wouldnât be good, especially not for Stella.
RK narrowed his eyes and looked at Tristan. It seemed that no one could disturb his emotions. His eyes were still calm. âMr. Davis, I donât like being told what to do, especially when it comes to my ex-wife.
Thatâs between me and her. You have no right to intervene.â The implication was clear: Stella and he were still close.
After hearing her words, Tristan became even angrier. Since Stella had married RK, he, Tristan Davis, had never gotten used to it. However, after their divorce, he had turned a blind eye to RK. But now, even after the divorce, RK still loved Stella? He couldnât accept that.
âMr. Kingston, I think you have forgotten that you are engaged to my sister and about to marry her. In the future, you have no right to talk about Stella. You had your chance and you lost it, not I.â His words were icy and firm.
Tristan had always been indifferent, not easily swayed by emotions. But when it came to Stella, everything was different.
For years, when Stella wasnât around, Sophia had thought Tristan had forgotten about her. He had always seemed so distant. But now⦠it was clear that wasnât true.
Sophia pulled her brotherâs arm and led him inside. âBrother, please come inside, why are you talking about Stella in front of RK? We are getting married next month. If you keep talking like that, I donât think I can marry himâ¦â
At the same time, after hearing the commotion outside, David and Isabella also came out quickly.
When they saw two men looking at each other with cold eyes and heard what they had just said inside the room, they almost understood the situation.
Sophia turned to Isabella. âMom, look what Brother is doing. Please talk to him. He keeps bringing up Stella in front of RK and he gets angry.â
Inside the house, everyone in the Richard family had been interested in RK for a long time.
Now that he was here, of course, everyone wanted to know what RK thought of the Richard family. But as anxious as David was, he couldnât say anything to Tristan since he wasnât his son.
Isabella, for her part, looked at Tristan disapprovingly. âTristan, look at what youâve done. Youâre getting more uncontrollable these years.
Your sister and RK are about to get married; why do you keep bringing up the subject of Stella in front of him? For Godâs sake, theyâre divorced! If you keep this up, it will strain the relationship between our families.â
Tristan said nothing and went up to his room. Isabella followed him and took a step closer. âTristan, I know you donât like RK very much, but Sophia likes him.
Sheâs your sister and theyâre getting married. You should think about her, shouldnât you? Whatâs more, once the marriage between the Richard and Kingston family is finalized, Iâll make sure you two donât have to cross paths.â
Isabella looked at her son and sighed. She knew all too well what Tristan and RKâs relationship was like. When Stella had married RK, Tristan had not been amused and had always been angry about the affair.
But what she hadnât expected was that after all these years, Tristan hadnât forgotten Stella at all.
In the past, Tristan had not been back in the country often, and Stella had been abroad, so it had been years since they had seen each other. Isabella thought Tristan had moved on. But now that she looked at him, she knew that wasnât the case.
However, those feelings had been buried deep in her heart for many years.
She tried to comfort him. âTristan, you should spend some time these days. Iâll introduce you to some lovely girls soon. Theyâre as lovely as Stella and from a good family, yesâ¦â
âMom, I donât want to talk about this,â Tristan abruptly cut her off.
Isabella felt a twinge of discomfort at her sonâs stubbornness. âTristan, what do you mean you donât want to talk about it?
Youâre already thirty years old, when are you getting married? Donât tell me that if Stella didnât get married and decided to stay single for the rest of her life, youâre going to wait for herâ¦â
âSon, why donât you understand? Donât be fooled by that girl. She doesnât love you. You didnât see herâ¦â Before she could finish, Tristan grabbed his car keys and stormed out of his room again, driving out of the Richard family home.
He did not come home often. A few years ago, he had already gotten his apartment in the city. Tonight, he had only come back to take a look at Stella.
â
The next day, when Stella woke up, she realized that she was still wearing the same clothes as the day before. Only then did she remember that Tristan had given her a ride home. She had fallen asleep in his car after getting drunk.
âHoney, are you awake?â Adrian, who had already woken up and gone to the bathroom, peeked into Stellaâs room and saw that she was awake.
Then he rushed in like a bullet, jumped into bed and snuggled under the comforter next to her. The smell of childhood lingered in the air.
Stella hugged him and kissed her babyâs chubby cheeks several times. âYouâre awake⦠Did you sleep well yesterday?â
Adrian found a comfortable place in her arms and shook his head slightly. âHoney, that guy who brought you home last night was really scary.
When he found out I was your son, he looked at me like he wanted to kill me. I was so scared that Iâm going to have nightmares tonight.â
Stella, who had been worried that Tristan had brought her home, suddenly became alert. âHe brought me home?â
Adrian nodded. âYes, when he carried you in his arms. Then he helped you onto the bed, took off your shoes and covered you with a blanket.
Then he turned off the light and left. I was almost fooled by his kind lookâ¦â. Adrian sounded like he was complaining, trying to downgrade Tristanâs position in Stellaâs eyes.
But Stellaâs mind was racing. She had spent years hiding her son, not wanting anyone to know about him, especially the Richard family. She was terrified that they would try to hurt him or, worse, tell themâ¦.
He had never imagined that, as soon as he returned, his son would become a weak spot and people would start asking about him.
âBy the way, honey, did you find out anything about that guy?â Adrian asked innocently, blinking at her. âHe didnât like you because he found out you have me?â.
âWhat nonsense youâre talking!â Stella pinched his little ear.
In France, Emily had often introduced some boyfriends to Stella, and Adrian had met them. But she knew that after meeting them, they would lose interest in Darling. It was as if he was going to be a burden to her for the rest of her life.
Adrian sighed like an adult, looked at her and said, âHoney, I think weâd better pick the guy who drives the black Rolls-Royce. He saw me and still sent you home, why donât we let him be my stepfather?â.
He looked at her with full expectation, his two blue eyes staring unblinkingly at her.
In short, it was her biological father again. Stella couldnât understand why Adrian was always attracted to him. Was it the attraction of their blood connection?
âDing ding.â Just as mother and son were talking about stepfathers, the doorbell rang. Adrian jumped out of bed and ran barefoot to the door to open it.
