âGive it back to me!â Amber Mitchell spread out her hand to George Gregory. She spoke with such force while her eyes only stared at the bracelet he was holding.
It was as if all she saw was the bracelet and nothing else.
George Gregory felt an unspeakable frustration. âSheâs not even looking at me! What do I mean to her?â
âAmber Mitchell, do you think you havenât cheated on me enough? So, youâre trying to remember Herman Moss by holding onto the bracelet he gave you? Itâs best to destroy something like this!â He said as he held out his hand to one side.
There was a drain on the ground beside him. Once the bracelet fell into the drain, it would be difficult to find it again.
Amber Mitchell yelled, âNo! George Gregory, donât destroy it. I wonât forgive you if you destroy it!â
âYou wonât forgive me?â He chuckled suddenly. âWhy do I need you to forgive me? Who do you think you are? Iâm the one who will never forgive you!â
Her face instantly paled. âThis is what Herman gave me. You snatching it will be considered robbery if I report it to the police!â
âRobbery?â George Gregory sneered, but his eyes grew colder. âAt most, I just lost it by accident, I can compensate you with the full price or even double it. Do you think the police are going, to treat this as robbery? Do I, George Gregory, need to steal a bracelet?â
Amber Mitchell was tottering slightly. She closed her eyes, knowing George Gregory was blaming her for old and new grudges.
Maybe the only way to save the bracelet was to give in to George Gregory.
âAlright, what do I have to do so that you can return the bracelet thought me?â Amber Mitchell asked.
George Gregory said coldly, âThereâs nothing you can do! Did you ever think of me when you and Herman Moss made me the laughing stock of Deer City?â
âI told you, Herman and I never wronged you!â Amber Mitchell shouted.
However, George Gregoryâs eyes were full of disbelief.
âYou donât believe me, do you?â Amber Mitchell asked.
âWhy donât we make a bet if you want me to believe you? Lie down on the street and see if a car comes along and spots you. Iâll believe you if it stops and you survive. If you get run over by the car, you can only blame yourself for being unlucky!â George Gregory said nonchalantly.
Amber Mitchellâs heart sank when she heard this. He was asking her to gamble with her life!
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes as if in thought. Moments later, her dark eyes opened, and her red lips gently uttered, âOkay, Iâll do it! If I survive, give me back my bracelet!â
With that said, she looked intently at the bracelet again before setting off down the street without hesitation.
The sky was already dark. The cars driving on this street would often drive a little faster because there were not many cars. There were not many streetlights around either. If the driver was not careful, they could easily run over her.
However⦠she could not lose the bracelet no matter what.
It was the most precious thing that Herman left her.
When Amber Mitchell stood in the middle of the road, looking at the street with no traffic, all she could think of was⦠it would be nice to be with Herman in the afterlife if she did die.
