Chapter 100-1
Not A Small-Town Girl
Chapter 100
"Iâm sorry," Emma said. "I was discourteous. I thought we were familiar with each other, so I..." She had noticed Danielle a long time ago, and her words could easily be misunderstood.
"Familiar with each other?" Danielle said as she looked up at David.
David then looked at Danielle worriedly, afraid that she would misunderstand. In the end, he noticed that her face was full of smiles.
"I donât know her, Danielle," he said, going along with what Danielle had said. Since Danielle wanted to make things difficult for Emma, he would play along.
"No, no, itâs not that," Emma said endearingly, even looking somewhat flustered. "Weâre not familiar with David."
Danielle revealed a disdainful smile, thinking, âWith her explanation, she might as well shut up. Sheâs afraid that others wonât overthink things. Fortunately, I know what kind of person David is.â
"Since you said youâre not familiar with him, donât keep calling David that way," she said. "Itâs really disgusting to hear. I suggest you speak properly. Arenât you afraid of accidentally suffocating yourself with your cutesy voice?
"Even if you arenât afraid, you should consider how it affects the ears of the people around you."
"Maâam, did I provoke you in any way?" Emma said. "Why are you speaking so viciously?" Her eyes welled up with tears, looking like she had suffered a huge grievance.
Anyone who saw this would think that Danielle was bullying her.
Standing aside, Celine couldnât stand seeing her best friend being bullied and spoke up in her defense. "Emma was just saying hello to David," she said. "Why are you being so harsh on her?"
"Iâm fine, Celine," Emma said, tears streaming down her face. "Itâs my fault. I shouldnât have greeted David."
"Itâs okay, Emma," Celine said. "Donât be afraid. We just said hello. We didnât do anything wrong." At this point, Celine had been completely swayed, looking like she wanted to defend Emma. "With me around, you can forget about bullying Emma."
Looking at Celine as if she was a fool, Danielle said, "You think you can stand up for her? Youâre being used by her, yet youâre still helping her out. What can you do? Itâs out of courtesy that I reproached her that way."
"How... how can you put things this way?" Celine was at a loss for words.
She was so angry that she complained to David, saying, "David, look at her. How can she be so rude?"
David glanced at Celine indifferently, yet it felt like there was an invisible pressure coming at her.
Celine was so frightened that she flinched. She was usually terrified of David. Every time she saw him, it was like a mouse seeing a cat.
