Chapter 681
Changing only for her (Sophie and Tristan)
âRemember, Alex. Sophie is my only obsession in life. If I canât have her, Iâll go crazy for the rest of my
days,â Nicholas remarked. This is my best shot at pulling this off!
âSo much time has passed since the avalanche, Mr. Nicholas. Iâm afraid Ms. Tanner isââ Before Alex
could finish his sentence, Nicholas gave him a furious slap.
âSheâs not going to die,â spat Nicholas. Sophie has always been a capable woman. I refuse to believe
sheâs dead!
After receiving the slap, Alex kept quiet and sent people to search for her.
At that moment, a full day had passed. By that point, almost everyone was convinced that the two
women were dead.
Everyone thought that even if the duo wasnât buried alive under the snow, they wouldâve frozen to
death already.
Thus, the president of Jetroina found no reason to continue the search. There are some things we must
accept, even if we donât want to.
âWhat do we do now, Mr. President? Should the rescue team continue the search?â the secretary
asked. By this point, everything is just a waste of effort and resources. In fact, thereâs no need to keep
searching for them.
âYes. Ask our rescue team to cooperate with Chanaeaâs rescue team. Whatever they do, weâll follow.â
The president didnât expect the Chanaean leader would also care about the matter because he thought
only Tristan and Nicholas were involved in the matter. Whatâll others think of us if we give up now when
they didnât? Thatâs why we must continue as much as I think itâs pointless.
In response, the secretary kept his silence. Naturally, I also hope sheâll be fine, considering how many
factions have joined the search. Still, no one is to blame for such a thing to happen.
As everyone combed through the mountain for Sophie, they believed all they would find were two
corpses.
Since Tristan insisted on finding Sophie, no one dared to speak of it and kept on looking whether they
were dead or alive.
âWe found a lead, Mr. Tristan,â the captain of the rescue team informed after his men detected faint
signs of life.
It was as though Tristan had come back to life when he heard that. âWhat? Where?â
âYeah, where are they? Since youâve found a clue to their whereabouts, you should dig them out
quickly!â exclaimed Felix. It has been a whole day! Thereâs no way someone as delicate as Ysabelle
can hold on any longer. She must be in agony right now.
The captain responded, âIâve already asked my men to do that.â
Two hours later, they finally found Ysabelle and Sophie. Felix felt his heart wrenched when he saw
Ysabelleâs pale, frozen lips as she was laid on a stretcher.
âIâll be heading to the hospital with Ysabelle first, Mr. Tristan.â The only thing he could think of at that
moment was Ysabelle. Thereâs no way Iâll feel at ease if sheâs brought to the hospital alone, especially
now that sheâs unconscious.
âMhm, go ahead,â Tristan answered as he wondered why Sophie hadnât been brought out yet.
While the ambulance sent Ysabelle and Felix to the hospital, the captain of the rescue team
approached Tristan with a troubled look.
âWhatâs going on? Whereâs the other one?â Tristan had never been this panicked before. Please donât
let anything happen to my girl.
âHereâs the situation, Mr. Tristan. Ms. Tanner is trapped inside. Her leg is pinned under a giant rock.
Right now, we canât move the rock recklessly. If we smash it open, another avalanche may be
triggered. The situation is dire, but weâre trying to figure out how to extract her.â
âI donât care what you do. Just save her. Forget it. Iâll go down there and take a look myself.â
If he wanted to descend into the hole, he had to borrow a rope, which the captain was hesitant to
provide.
âYouâre a distinguished man, Mr. Tristan. I donât think itâs a good idea for you to go down there. Donât
worry. Iâll devise a plan to save her. Additionally, Ms. Tanner is in a coma right now, so thereâs no point
in you going to her. Itâs better if you wait here,â the captain suggested.
âIâm going to take a look at her, regardless of what you think.â It had been too long since Tristan last
met Sophie, so he couldnât suppress his desire to see her, especially when he told her that he would
always be by her side, no matter what happened.
Since he insisted on going down there, the others had no choice but to throw a rope into the hole,
allowing him to reach her.
After he saw her situation in the hole, a terrible heartache struck him.
Sophieâs leg was incredibly swollen, and her face was ashen. Oh, no. She looks deathly pale.
Kneeling beside her, he held her icy hand and uttered, âIâm here, Sophie. I told you Iâd definitely find
you. I know youâre afraid right now, but you donât have to anymore. As long as Iâm around, I wonât let
anything happen to you.â
âIâm afraid she wonât be able to walk anymore, Mr. Tristan,â the captain commented. With how long this
rock has been pressing on her leg, itâll be a miracle if sheâs not crippled.
âSave your words and get her out of here right now,â commanded Tristan.
âYou should leave first, Mr. Tristan. Weâre going to pry this rock away, which may trigger an avalanche.â
âJust stop talking and do it.â Tristan couldnât bear to leave. If I die, I want to die with her!
Upon seeing that, the others silently prepared their tools for the operation.
Meanwhile, Tristan personally directed the rescue. Sophieâs a proud woman. She absolutely wonât
allow her leg to sustain permanent injury. If she lost her leg, sheâll rather die than to live on.
Another hour passed before the rock was removed. He carried Sophie in his arms while the people
above the hole lifted them out.
Once she was laid on a stretcher, the doctor examined her. However, he couldnât detect any vital signs.
No matter how he tried to resuscitate her, it didnât work.
Tristan, who was watching from the side, reflexively tightened his fists.
âMs. Tanner has no vital signs, Mr. Tristan.â The doctor was the best in Jetroina, and the president
personally sent him, so he knew just how grave the situation was.
âWhat did you say?â Tristanâs demeanor was so overpowering that the doctor trembled when he heard
that.
âNo, she canât be dead. Youâd better save her now, or Iâll bury you together with her! Do you understand
me?â threatened Tristan mercilessly.
Hence, the doctor tried to revive her again. Iâve saved countless people before, and my medical skills
are the best in the country. However, even I canât save her now. Sadly, heâll unquestionably tear me to
pieces if I tell him that.
