Chapter 550
Changing only for her (Sophie and Tristan)
All this while, Tristan wasnât even bothered to say such words. A single look in his eyes was enough to
communicate his intentions.
However, it was Jennifer who persisted in barging into his life.
âOld Mr. Lombard, calm down. Iâm taking my leave first.â Regardless of how thick-skinned Jennifer was,
she was incapable of staying any longer.
âMmm-hmm. Go on ahead. Ignore whatever he said. He has gone mad.â William didnât know what else
to say.
Upon Jenniferâs departure, William got to his feet.
âTristan, you have disappointed me today.â
âI, too, am disappointed in you. I have told you loud and clear not to cause Sophie any trouble, and yet,
you refused to listen!â
âSo what if I went to see her? Itâs not like I harmed her!â William didnât feel that he had done anything
wrong.
âHow can you even let that cross your mind?â William meeting Sophie had already crossed Tristanâs
threshold, let alone if the former had other plans.
âHmph, is she really that fragile?â Even Ysabelle isnât pampered to that extent!
âThatâs right. I donât want her to experience even the slightest bit of suffering!â
Have I made myself clear?
âDo whatever you want! I canât be bothered with you anymore.â
When Sarah came home to the hostility between father and son, she pulled Tristan aside upon learning
what happened.
âWhatâs wrong with you?â Sophie remarked disapprovingly, âDoing so will only make Father dislike
Sophie even more.â
âSo what if it does? Itâs not like I need him to approve of her. At most, I wonât bring her back home.â
âYouââ Sarah shook her head in resignation.
He spoils Sophie too much.
âTo be honest, you should let Sophie deal with the matter herself. Itâs not like sheâs incapable of doing
so.â
His relentless protection of Sophie will only antagonize Father further.
âWith the attitude Dad has displayed, Sophie will definitely suffer if she faces him alone. Why should I
allow my woman to go through that?â
This is totally unnecessary!
âJeezâ¦â
Truth be told, Sarah was envious of Sophie for having Tristan stand up for her.
âWhat about your relationship with Father? Are you going to let it go to the dogs?â Has he forgotten that
Mother left us early, and it was Father who raised us?
âCan you not hurt Fatherâs feelings for Sophieâs sake? Promise me that youâll resolve this in a better
way instead of direct confrontation.
âI just canât stand anyone whoâs trying to hurt Sophie. Thatâs where my threshold lies, and not one is
allowed to cross it.â
Everyone has their limits, isnât it?
âDad only went to see her and didnât do anything, right? Itâs not as serious as youâre making it out to
be.â
âEnough talk about this. Iâm going back.â
He couldnât bear to stay there for a second longer.
All he wanted to do was be by Sophieâs side.
âSince youâre back, stay for dinner before you go.â Leaving now would only make infuriate Father
further.
âBoth of you should go ahead without me.â With no desire to do so, Tristan left in a huff.
Just as expected, William was enraged to learn that Tristan didnât stay for dinner.
Sarah had no choice but to assuage him.
âDad, thereâs no need to be angry. Donât you know how Tristan is by now? He has never liked others to
interfere in his affairs, especially since his feelings for Sophie are true.â
William wasnât in the mood to comment.
âAfter painstakingly raising the two of you, neither of you grow up to obey me. It makes me wonder
whatâs the point of my life.â
âDad, thatâs not true. Donât I always listen to you all the time?â Sarah answered gleefully.
âHmph! Look at how old you are, and yet, you refuse to get married when I asked you to. As long as
youâre willing to do so, there are plenty of men queuing at the door for your hand. Whatâs the big deal
about this Juan?â
The mention of Juanâs name caused Sarahâs mood to change.
âDad, didnât I tell you not to bring the matter up? Juan and I have long severed ties with each other.
Furthermore, I was the one who harbored unrequited feelings, and it isnât his fault at all.â
The fact that he never liked her back was what saddened her the most.
At the end of the day, Williamâs reluctance to see his daughter hurt stopped him from continuing with
the topic.
âAll right, all right. Stop giving me that look. Do whatever you want. After all, none of you listen to
anything I say.â
âDad, I really hope that you can understand how difficult it is to find someone I like.â Itâs hard to find
someone who will reciprocate our love.
âReally?â William didnât agree with her, as he felt that compatibility between a coupleâs family
background was more important. Can love last a lifetime?
âI just canât stand anyone whoâs trying to hurt Sophie. Thatâs where my threshold lies, and not one is
allowed to cross it.â
Furthermore, he couldnât stand Tristan challenging his authority for the sake of an outsider.
Meanwhile, Tristan had returned to the condominium near the university. He found Sophie writing her
thesis and wasnât sure if she had eaten yet.
When Sophie lifted her gaze to greet his arrival, she looked as if nothing had happened at all.
âYouâre back. Have you had your dinner?â
Taking his seat beside her, Tristan could tell how busy she was from the pile of foreign language books
on her table.
âYouâre just in your freshman year. Is there a need to push yourself to this extent?â Tristan asked
curiously.
As Sophieâs fingers danced across the keyboard, she replied, âConsidering that I want to marry you as
soon as possible, it goes without saying that I have to work hard!â
Hearing her words, Tristan couldnât help but put his arm around her shoulder.
âThereâs no need to be in such a hurry. Watching you slog breaks my heart.â Itâs more important that
she takes her time and gets enough rest.
âIâm just kidding. Iâm not tired at all.â She enjoyed a fast-paced life and didnât see anything wrong with it.
âOkay. Even though I canât wait to marry you, youâre still young, and Iâm prepared to wait. All that
matters is your commitment to our relationship.â
âIâm more committed than you can imagine, so donât you worry. I wonât leave you for any strange
reasons. Besides, itâs not like weâre in some sort of movie drama.â
I want to always be by his side and wonât abandon him for some nonsensical reason.
âUm, Iâm sorry to have put you in a spot.â Despite how amazing she was, his father still disapproved of
her.
âWhatâs wrong?â Sophie had sensed that something was amiss. âYou found out about my meeting with
your dad?â
I suppose itâs about that.
âWhat did he tell you?â She had hit the nail on the head.
âNothing much. Donât worry. I can handle it.â Itâs no big deal. Iâm not a people-pleaser. I canât make
everyone like me.
Tristan held her face.
âYouâre so wonderful!â
A radiant smile flashed across Sophieâs face.
In his eyes, she was indeed the epitome of perfection.
