Chapter 73
The Millionaire And His Billionaire Ex-Wife
Chapter 73
Sarah jolted awake, heaving a sigh of relief that Grace had dodged the bullet this time. Otherwise, she and Patric would never be together again.
She slumped onto the floor, mulling over how she could pick up the pieces from the mess sheâd made.
After stewing over it, she grabbed her phone and dialed Patric.
The phone hummed incessantly with the busy signal, making the wait feel like an eternity.
âWhatâs up?â
Patricâs voice rang out, laden with impatience, âIf itâs nothing urgent, Iâm hanging up.â
âWait! Donât hang up! Patric, I genuinely need to talk to you!â Sarah clung onto her phone as if her life depended on it, fearing he might end the call any moment.
âIf youâre hoping I could convince Mr. Morgan to lift your grounding, donât hold your breath. As for the engagement, Iâm still mulling it over.â
âNo, Iâm looking for Grace. I donât have her number⦠could you put her on?â Sarahâs voice tapered off as she finished speaking.
âYou want to talk to her? My advice, Miss Grammer, is to stop chasing Graceâs tail. I wonât give you the chance to hurt her again.â Patric warned, his voice dropping to a whisper.
âNo, Iâm here to apologize to her. Sarah hit her lip, âPlease pass her the phone. Iâm begging you,
Patric.â
âApologize?â
Patric was taken aback. Given that she was all the way in S City and was grounded, she wasnât likely to stir the pot, so he reluctantly agreed to her request.
He knocked gently on the door of the makeshift operating room, cracking it open slightly, and beckoned to Grace inside.
Grace shot a glance at Chad, still engrossed in the operation, and crept out.
âWhatâs wrong?â
Patric handed her his phone, âSarah wants a word.â
âWith me?â
Grace took his phone, suspicion written all over her face, and shot a glance at the screen, âWhatâs up?
Canât stay out of trouble even at home, and now you want to make trouble with a call?â
âNo, Iâm here to apologize.â
The typical co ck iness in Sarahâs voice was gone. However, her years as a blue blood made it impossible for her to how down completely.
âI messed up earlier. I apologize. As long as you donât play gooseberry in my relationship with Patric, I am willing to get along well with you.â
Grace remained silent.
Did she figure out her real identity?
Seeing her mute response, Sarah felt a pang of guilt and continued, âTo show you Iâm sincere, consider the Hedda matter as a gift.â
âA gift for me?â

Grace couldnât help but chuckle, âAlright, Iâll wait and see.â
After being hung up by Grace, Sarah wasnât ruffled, but dialed another number instead.
In a heartbeat, the call was answered by Nancy in the hospital.
âHowâs it going? Did you find Hedda?â
âNo need to, because sheâs already six feet under.â Sarahâs voice was devoid of any emotion.
âReally?â Nancyâs voice filled with joy, âAre you certain? Was she at Patricâs villa? Was it your man who did her in? Sheâ¦â
Sarah cut her off, âThatâs enough, you donât need to know all these details. Just keep in mind sheâs pushing up daisies. Iâm calling to give you a heads-up, our partnership has come to an end.â
Nancy was taken aback by this sudden decision, her eyes widening in shock.
âWhy? Because Grace and Hedda have kicked the bucket?â
âExactly. Because of this, Patric wants to call off our engagement, my parents are already in the know.â
Sarahâs voice escalated, âRight now, Iâve got my hands full just trying to keep my own head above water, I donât have the time to entertain any partnership. Anyway, the two thorns in your side are out of the picture, your road to being the successor of the Mellis Group is smooth sailing.â
âButâ¦â
âThere are no buts about it, end of story.â Sarah interrupted impatiently, hanging up the call.
Nancy was still looking to say something but the line was already dead.
She blankly stared at the call history on her phone, a mix of elation and confusion washing over her.
Having gotten rid of her two most detested individuals, she had every reason to rejoice.
But Sarahâs peculiar behavior today was a cause for concern.
She felt that tonightâs Sarah was stranger than usual, but couldnât pinpoint what exactly was off.
Whatever, if she couldnât figure it out, she would put it on the back burner. She tossed her phone aside and laid on her bed.
She tried to cast these doubts out of her mind, but Sarahâs words were etched deep into her thoughts, lingering on persistently.
The more Nancy thought about it, the more irritable she became. She sat up, gazing at the ceiling.
There was something wrong with Sarah tonight, prompting her to question her former collaborator.
Their collaboration was born out of mutual interests in the first place, the level of trust between them was only known to themselves.
âWell, it seems that youâve recovered quite well!â
Emma walked in with her maid, seeing her sitting up in bed, she crinkled her nose in disgust, âHurry up and eat, donât sit there daydreaming.â
Nancy never quite had a stomach for hospital food.
Even when it was a VIP meal, she found it distasteful after a few bites and would cast it aside, always demanding that meals he sent from the Mellis family.
For this, she had to endure the sharp tongues and snide remarks of Emma.
AÅ Nancy accepted the meal from the ser vant, the sight of Emma reminded her of the now deceased Hedda, a thought that brought a certain lightness to her heart.

âIndeed, Iâm recovering quickly. Itâs a good turn of events for the Mellis family. After all, Iâm the heir.
Imagine the predicament the Mellis family would be in if I kick the bucket.â
She stirred her fruit and vegetable salad nonchalantly, shooting a side glance at Emma.
Emma, not one to hold her tongue, rolled her eyes and retorted, âFigures that the mistressâs child would be a piece of work. Youâll never shake off that title, no matter how high you climb. Whatâs not yours will never be yours.â
With that, Emma turned her head away, refusing to give Nancy the satisfaction of her attention.
Looking at Emmaâs composed face, Nancy was taken aback.
Hedda had vanished without a trace, and yet there was not a flicker of worry on Emmaâs face.
Something smelled fishy.
This thought prompted her to shoot a frosty glance at Emma. âIâm merely injured and will be out of here in a jiffy. But your child is not so lucky. Sheâs left this world for good.â
With the air of someone holding the winning hand, she watched Emmaâs expression shift from composed to panic-stricken.
âWhat did you say?!â
Emma lunged at her, grabbing her by the hospital gown, âWhat happened to my daughter? Speak clearly!â
âHave you got wax in your ears?â Nancy swatted her hand away in disgust. âYour daughter will never grace this world with her presence again. Hedda, sheâs dead!â
âImpossible! Youâre lying! My daughter was hale and hearty, how could she die? Youâre pulling my leg.
Youâre just green with envy, and youâre cursing her!â
Emma was beside herself, her finger trembling as she pointed at Nancy.
