Chapter 25

Valeria's pov

I've been on the Midnight Pack for two weeks and everything has been going well for the most part. I have called my family every day as promised and they are doing well too. Ethan also said that rogue sightings have decreased significantly. Which is good but weird.

I have been able to go shopping and at the same time I found a nice little gym where I can work out.

Things are also good with Lucas. Lucas took me out on a date and we've become much closer. On the physical side, we have still refrained from small kisses and in the evenings we cuddle in bed. My feelings for Lucas really grew and I thought that I could deepen our relationship soon.

I've also spent a lot of time with Onyx. I love him, he's awesome! His wolf form is amazing, he is big and strong. We have explored the lands of the pack together.

The only one who still doesn't like me is Evelyn and the feeling is about to become mutual. Why is she so jealous of me and Lucas when she has her own mate somewhere?

I have also noticed that Rosie has been avoiding me for a couple of days. I have to ask if something is bothering her.

Rosie and Liam have become really close friends to me. I notice that especially my friendship with Liam causes jealousy in Lucas. Which is amusing and pointless because Liam is mated.

Liam has been a big support for me. He defends me if Evelyn tries to annoy me and has been there for me if I've missed my family or otherwise had a bad day. For example, a few days ago I was really down because I missed Nathan and I haven't been able to visit his and Ryan's grave.

Memory:

I sat in the furthest corner of the packhouse library, lost in my memories. Today is one of those days when everything feels bad. I missed Nathan and tried to relieve the sadness with my memories.

Tears silently ran down my face, and nothing seemed to help.

"Valeria! Are you here? Lucas is looking for you.. Valeria? What's wrong?" Liam found me and rushed over to me.

"Oh my god, are you okay? I will inform Luc-"

"NO!" I screamed and he looked at me strangely.

I wiped away the tears and cleared my throat.

"Don't tell Lucas, he doesn't understand and can't help. I-I just miss Nathan so much.." I burst into tears and Liam hugged me.

I don't know how long I cried, but after I calmed down, Liam asked if I wanted to talk about Nathan.

I thought for a moment before smiling and taking his hand.

"I can show you." I told him the same thing I told Onyx and started showing my memories.

"Wow, that was so awesome!" Liam said out loud.

"Shh! No one but Onyx here knows about the ability and I want to keep it that way." I silenced him.

"I won't tell anyone, I promise. And I know you miss Nathan, he seemed like a really nice and good guy. You can always come talk to me if you need comfort." He smiled and hugged me again.

"Thanks Liam." I said feeling emotional and we continued to talk about Nathan. Liam also went into great lengths to share how much he loves Rosie.

I smiled at the memory, I'm lucky to have a friend like Liam.

Tonight is my Luna ceremony, we wanted to have it before Alpha James comes to visit so he can see me as an official Luna. Lucas and I haven't marked each other yet.

Now we were eating lunch and discussing the events of the evening.

"Lucas, what wish are you going to make of the Moon Goddess?" His brother Leo asked.

I finished eating and looked at Lucas. I had completely forgotten about the whole thing.

When Alpha finds his mate and Luna's ceremony is held, Alpha gets to make a wish to Selene. We know that there is no guarantee that the wish will come true. If the wish is sincere and made with good intentions, it may come true.

"Perhaps you could hope that our Luna finally completes the mating so that the pack becomes stronger." None other than Evelyn said. How I wish I could snap her neck.

All the closest people in the pack know about me and Lucas' difficulties and the decision to go slow. Everyone understood except Evelyn. That bitch.

"Our mating has nothing to do with you so let it be Evelyn." I growled at her.

"Right Lucas?" I asked, turning to him. I was shocked when I saw his expression. Lucas was deep in his own thoughts. I hope he doesn't really consider it!

"Lucas?" I asked again.

He woke up from his thoughts and looked at me. "I don't know Valeria, the pack would be stronger if we were fully mated."

I looked at him hurt. Soon I was angry.

"You can't be serious!? You can't force me to do that and I don't think the Moon Goddess will accept such a stupid wish. You can be an idiot." I shook my head in disappointment.

"I'm sorry, I lost my appetite. Rosie, come to my office when you are ready. I have to talk to you. And you Lucas can stay out of my sight for a while." I said and left for my office.

I heard how Lucas' parents started scolding him but I couldn't bear to listen to what they said. When I got to the office, I lay down on the couch and closed my eyes. That bitch knows how to ruin things.

It wasn't long before Rosie came into my office. She seemed nervous but annoyed at the same time. She sat next to me and glared the floor.

"Okay what's wrong Rosie? You're acting strange." I asked her.

"Hmph, I don't think you would behave normally yourself if a person you thought was your friend tried to seduce your mate." She replied, still glaring the floor.

I was about to burst out laughing but I noticed a tear escaping from her eye.

"Rosie what the hell are you talking about? You can't seriously think I would do something like that?" I asked, hurt.

She looked at me with an angry look on her face while tears rolled down her face and yelled at me

"Evelyn saw you! You hugged and held each other's hands! What am I supposed to think!?"

"Evelyn, of course." I muttered in frustration.

"I'm going to show you something, but I hope you don't tell others about this. Only Onyx and Liam know. Okay, I can show moments of my life and now I'm going to show you what really happened. Can you hold my hand please?" I held out my hand to her and after a moment's thought, Rosie nodded and took my hand.

After a while she snapped back from the memories and looked at me sadly. New tears welled up in her eyes and she hugged me tightly. I hugged her back while looking at the office door.

Lucas doesn't know that my sense of smell is better than normal so he dares to eavesdrop on us. Not that I care, I have nothing to hide but my ability.

"I'm so sorry Valeria. I should have talked to you and not directly assumed that Evelyn's words were true." Rosie sobbed.

"I do understand why you were hurt, but I would have liked you to talk to me. We are friends Rosie, I would never do that to you. Liam is a good friend of mine, nothing else." I explained to her.

"I know, sorry. So who is Nathan?" She asked.

I sighed and looked out the window.

"Nathan was my best friend. The joker of our pack. Nathan was funny, smart and the best friend in the world. I loved him so much, I still do."

I felt a lump in my throat so I took a deep breath before continuing.

"We were always together, ever since we were little. When we were older we fell in love in a romantic sense, he was my first kiss, my first in everything. We both knew we wouldn't be together forever unless we were mates."

"Nathan carried me to the hospital when I lost Opal, my wolf. He listened to my cries and screams when I woke up from the coma. He was my anchor in dark times and helped me get through the worst. I am who I am now because of him."

"Then the day came when Nathan found his mate Ryan. You should have seen the look on his face when he realized his mate was a man." I laughed

"As soon as they realized they were mates, our love changed back to that of friends. I was so happy for him. First, Ryan was mad at me and came to clear things up with me. But the little angry Omega wolf was so cute! I just hugged him and told him that I have no intentions regarding Nathan." I smiled at the memory of a cranky Ryan.

"In the end, we were all good friends and our past didn't bother anyone. We were together even when they both died protecting me.. I was weaker then, their death is my fault. I miss them so much.." I cried and Rosie hugged me and started crying too.

"But no more of this, I just get more depressed. So is everything okay between us?" I asked her after we calmed down.

"Of course! Sorry I was so stupid. Remember that you can always come and talk to me and Liam if you miss them too much." Rosie said and we got off the couch.

"Thank you." I smiled at her. I pointed to the door and whispered to her that Lucas was behind the door so we crept to the door and I quickly opened it. Lucas staggered forward and looked at us startled.

"H-hey girls.." He started but I cut him off.

"Eavesdropping is an ugly habit, Lucas. See you in the evening." I told him blankly and left. I might take a little nap before the evening.

I hope Lucas comes to his senses before then.
