Fated to the Cursed Lycan Prince Chapter 774
Fated To The Cursed Lycan Prince
Sylviaâs POV:
I hesitated for a few moments before answering the call, and talked to him as usual.
His deep pleasant voice washed over me. He told me that he missed me and that the meeting was over.
In fact, I already knew from Blair that the meeting had ended, but I still had to pretend to be surprised. âThe meeting ended so early! Does that mean we can get to the restaurant early?â
There was a long pause. Then Rufusâ apologetic voice came through. âIâm sorry, Sylvia. I wanted to come home earlier, but I have other plans. Iâm afraid Iâm going to have to cancel our date tonight.â
âItâs fine. We can go there some other day. Anyway, itâs not like the restaurant is going to shut down soon,â I joked, trying to cheer him up.
I could sense Rufusâ guilt as he sighed. âWeâll go together next time. Iâll be back after finishing my work. I want to eat spaghetti with shrimp tonight. Will you cook it for me?â
I was suddenly overwhelmed with sadness as I held the phone in my hand. A lump formed in my throat and bitterness surged in my heart. I struggled to hold back my tears and answered with a smile, âOf course. And Iâll prepare some roasted duck for you. Itâs your favorite.â
Blair returned a few minutes after I disconnected the call. He gave me a surprised look. âWhy are your eyes red? Have you been crying?â
âNo, Iâm just a little tired. My eyes are sore.â I lowered my head to shield my tears from him.
He didnât push the matter. He went into the changing room and came out in street clothes with a baseball cap on his head. Something seemed to suddenly strike him. He spun around and pinned his serious gaze on me. âArenât you going to return after leaving?â
Blairâs question shocked me. I hadnât expected him to be so perceptive. How did he know this?
I instantly shook my head. âHow can that be? Of course, Iâll come back.â
In reality, I had already made my decision. If I failed to obtain the inheritance book my mother left behind and refine the bug that could eat Rufusâ memories away, I would just disappear from his world. In this way, I hoped his love for me would die with time. As long as he stopped loving me, he would live.
Blair scrutinized me with his sharp eyes, wondering if I was telling him the truth.
I was terrified that he would see through my lie, so I urged him to leave. âHurry up. Itâs getting late. Rufus will be back soon.â
Blair had no choice but to end the conversation and lead me away.
Both of us were dressed in hats and dark-colored clothes. We successfully got past the palace guards.
âHow are we going to go to my pack?â I asked softly.
âI have arranged for a car in the suburb. If we manage to leave the city, we can easily reach your pack,â Blair explained concisely. Then he guided me to a small trail, avoiding the main road.
After todayâs riot, numerous soldiers were patrolling the streets, so we had to take more precautions.
Since the urban area was very far from the suburb, we hailed a taxi from a desolate area. My racing heart finally settled into a normal rhythm after we left the city center.
âWeâre doing fine, right?â I turned to ask Blair, trying to find some comfort.
He gave me a reassuring smile and said, âOf course. Once we cross this bridge, we will reach the suburb.â
I looked out at the magnificent bridge that extended over the river and couldnât see where it ended. My heart began pounding again. I hoped everything would go smoothly.
Soon, we were clear of the urban area. The second we alighted from the taxi, a group of gun-toting soldiers surrounded Blair and me.
A familiar frosty voice greeted me from behind the soldiers. âWhere are you going, Sylvia?â
Rufus slowly walked to the front of the group of soldiers and eyed me tenderly.
