"Let them leave, he's too much of a pussy anyways."
Oh no.
Luca pulls away from me and I hesitate on grabbing him by the arm. Getting in the middle of it with Marcus is not a good idea.
"Luca, leave it alone."
He doesn't even register that I am speaking to him.
"I'm a pussy?" He steps away from my grip and stands in front of Marcus near the kitchen. Marcus smiles. The kind of smug look that makes me want to slap the shit out of him. "You know I just don't get it."
"Get what?"
He takes a swig of his beer and points it in Luca's face.
"How she left me for you."
At least we know that faking it is working.
The fact that he is still claiming me is infuriating.
Luca shrugs. "Maybe she realized how much of a dick you were," he pauses and I'm mentally praying he doesn't say it. Please don't say it. Please don't say it. "Just like your dad."
And he said it.
I didn't realize I was screaming until Luca fell on the floor.
"Don't fucking say another word about him, you got me?"
His beer bottle shatters when he storms out of the kitchen.
I quickly find a wet rag and kneel beside him. His bottom lip is barely bleeding, but I dab on it softly. "That was awesome." I smiled, making his chuckle.
"Someone had to do it."
He just hit Marcus.
Marcus punched Luca in the face.
And it was freaking awesome.
Insert Mean Girls pun.
"I can't believe you just did that."
He leans closer to me so I can hear him and I'm hit with a hint of his mahogany cologne. I can't help but stare more at his lips. His now swollen bottom lip.
"I've been wanting to tell him that for years."
My eyes look up at him after I clean up his mouth. "His dad really is a dick, though." I tell him with a laugh.
He nods. "I was only stating facts."
After I lay the rag by the sink I say, "Should we go?"
He takes my hand in his. Our fingers interlock and his palm presses into mine slowly. I love the feeling of my hand in his. I love when he reaches for my hand in general.
"Ready when you are."
We step out of the kitchen and walk through the house before stepping outside. The temperature dropped. Normally, Oakley isn't this chilly, but tonight it's leaving shivers down my spine. Luca offered me his jacket again which I thanked him for.
Such a gentleman.
"I'm glad we came tonight." I say after I open the passenger door.
"Me too."
"You make my days and nights more interesting."
I don't know why I said that, but it's true. Who would have thought that Luca would have gotten punched tonight?
When he grins I decide to give him a kissâon the cheek of course. He must have thought I forgot something, because the look on his face was enough to know that he wasn't expecting that. My face lingered against his cheek for a few seconds as I leaned back to the seat.
"Goodnight, Luca."
He rolls the window down after I shut the door. "Goodnight, Cassie."
I've thought about kissing him and not even on his cheek. Was that a good idea? My dad's words come back into my mind.
Don't lead the boy on.
Is this part of the deal?
Sometimes I forget this is all fake.
