Chapter 71
Stronger
âHeâll be fine you sit,â my mom told me. She sat down a cup of herbal tea in front of me.
I called my mom the second that we came home from telling our people I was pregnant, and she
arrived after the morning of the threat.
âItâs a good thing Iâm here you need all the protection you can get. So help the goddess Iâll tear them
limb from limb if they so much as sniff you,â she had huffed when sheâd been told..
I now sat in my living room with her and my brothers while Grayson was away. Heâs caught wind of a
large encampment on the edge of our lands and the Waxing pride pack.
He and Darren were meeting and going to attack them on both sides. Hopefully, theyâd get a retreat.
I fiddled with my feet for a second wiggling my toes. âDonât worry darling heâs got back up,â Lilianna
strolled down our steps. âPlus heâs Grayson heâs visibly indestructible,â
It did nothing but I pushed and pushed to keep it out of my mind. Aarron had checked me and I was
overly stressed.. For now, it wasnât affecting the baby but over time, it would.
âWell anyways you need to call the other brother and his bride theyâre a little wounded they arenât
allowed to come,â Charlie told me
My middle brother and best friend had apparently insisted that they accompany my mother but I had
refused. I was in
the crosshairs and I didnât want anyone joining me.
I dialed on the couch while everyone chattered.
âNo amount of logic will make me forgive you for not telling me youâre pregnant the millisecond you
found out,â Ceaâs voice came clear across the line.
I chuckled. âYou know why and I know youâve already forgiven me,â I smiled my heart shinning at the
sound of my
best friend.
âYour brother is a little more unforgiving Iâm afraid. He worried, Iâve never seen him like this,â she
sounded sad.
âHe shouldnât be,â 1 lied through my teeth. âIâm fine,â
The picture of Theo my happyâgoâlucky crazy brother, down and depressed because of me. It broke
my bravado.
âPut him on,â I almost whimpered.
âSister of
of mine,â he attempted to sound as jovial as ever.
âBrother dearest,â I matched his false joy. âDonât worry about me besides you need to help papa protect
your pack. Charlie and James are here so are mom. Iâm beyond protected. That does not even
mention-
âYouâre trapped though. A targets only your back and you canât even enjoy your first baby. You of all
people donât
deserve this and I canât even be mad because Grayson was just doing his duty.â he scoffed.
âHe wasâ¦sometimes even when we make the right choices we make a mess.â I pondered.
âI want to be there. Seeing you okay and helping you enjoy your baby. My first nephew, that will help,â
he begged.
âHow do you know itâs a boy?â
âMom said youâve been having dreamsâitâs a boy. I remember you had a dream when we were children
Iâd broken my arm and the next day I punched a wall and broke my thumb and radius,â he reminded
me.
âIremember James was terrified and called me a witch for the rest of the year,â I smiled.
âWolf dreams. Only you seem to have them,â He remarked.
âI guess,â
âHave one that tells you itâll all be okay yet?â He hoped.
âNot yet, but Iâm sure it will be. Nothing breaks us. We donât bow, kneel, or beg.â I repeated what my
father had taught
Us.
When you have the strength and integrity to back up your decisions you should never waver to those
who speak loudly just because they can.
Theyâre lucky your pregnant then, youâd show them what alpha blood means,â I could hear his smirk
over the phone.
âEven if it all seems scary trust in me to make the right choice,â I asked of him.
âOf course,â he agreed. âEnough of this. Tell me what food youâre craving Iâll have the finest sent to
you,â he changed his voice to one of fake regality.
I giggled. âIâm craving burgers right now and have been for a bit,â I explained.
âIâm on it. I may not be there but I can still give you everything you want, he bragged.
âThank you, big brother,â
I put the phone down and sighed I looked outside and the moon was rising in the sky.
I focused my energy closing my eyes, and picturing him and his mind. Reaching out for him.
âStay safe, and come home to us
No response came, but the sense heâs heard me was always there.
âDid he have to bring Jamie though,â My mother complained.
âGrayson was smart to take him mom his aggression needs an outlet, Charlie shook his head at my
motherâs insensate
meddling.
âJaime is a child!â She whispered to him.
âHe has the strength of ten men. You remember what thatâs like,â he looked darkly off behind her.
âThat does not mean he is ready for a battle!â
âHe made his decisions mom,â I called to her not turning my head. âHe is under Graysonâs watch now
and you have no say in what happens,â
James was becoming erratic. My mother couldnât see it, but he was a at crossroads learning to control
it or let it consume him.
âAnnette youâll understand better when your baby gets hereâ she patted my hand.
âDonât speak as if Iâm being naive. Youâre the one who canât see, heâs your baby and youâre blind to the
issues he faces because you want to be. Grayson is doing the right thing,â I huffed.
âAnna!â My mother pouted.
âSheâs right mom. I trust Grayson to deal with this,â Charlie folded his arms and sat down beside me.
âHeâs my son,â she reminded us but I just rolled my eyes.
âHeâs under Graysons leadership and if you change that a committee will be called in us,â Charlie
glared at mom. âEnough, Anna what do you want to watch?â He held out the remote in my hands.
I couldnât decide but the harvest was almost over and the cold was about to come so I put on the first
Harry Potter
film.
âLuna here,â Elizebeth handed me my forgotten tea.
I was proud of her for remaining silent while my mother through a fit against Grayson. Elizebeth was
loyal to him, and. a proud wolf she didnât take kindly to insults and accusations.
I sipped the tea strong herbs and fragrant flowers, all designed to grow a strong pup that will one day
lead this pack.
I finished my tea and watched Harry chase a golden snitch around. Wouldnât life be so much easier if
you could wave a wand all your problems disappeared?
I wanted to know he was safe. I wanted to Jamie would be alright. I wanted to have my whole family
here celebrating not defending. I wanted a lot.
âWeâre both safe
My b*dy fully relaxed when I heard him. He was safe, and so was Jamie theyâll be coming home soon.
âTheyâre safe,â I announced.
They all turned to me my mother shocked and gaping mouth of question at my ability to know. From all
that Iâve beard it wasnât normal for Grayson and 1 to be able to hear each other over great distances.
12:42 Wed, 13 Mar ÎÎ
âTheyâll be making their way back then, weâll be ready for them in 3 days,â Elizebeth nodded to me and
made a phone
call.
âYouâre still surprising. That ability is quite envious,â My mother side eyed me. âWell now that heâs
chased them from the territory all you have to do is shore up your defneses and then all will be well,â
she patted my hand
âThats not true, they wonât stop,â Charlie mumbled and I already had the words in my mouth.
âThis is just the start of the fire fight,â I said aloud.
