Chapter 29
The Bad Boy And The Mermaid
Hunter I pinned her with an incredulous stare. Blue did not just ask me to marry her!
I cupped her face in both of my hands, âDo you realize what youâre asking me?â
She nodded earnestly, âYes. I would love to marry you if you wish to marry me, that is.â
I chuckled, âIf youâre making this decision just because you think my life is in danger, then please donât. Iâm not sure if Iâm even marriage material. I would hate to disappoint you.â
âYou wouldnât be disappointing me.â She said. âPlease understand that itâs the only way that my family cannot force me to go back to my world. If I take you as my husband, it would be a sin, I canât deny it. Humans and merfolk are not allowed to get into the union of marriage but it would be even more sinful if they tried to separate me from a man that Iâve already considered as a soulmate.â
My heart felt fuzzy. âIs it true?â I asked.
âAbout what I said? Of course it is.â
âThat you think Iâm your soulmate?â
âI do, if I didnât I wouldnât ask you to marry me.â She said truthfully.
I loved the way she looked at me, like I was her entire universe. Did Blue want to marry me because of her infatuation of the human world? I couldnât help but wonder if that was one of the contributing factors. She loved me, I had no doubt about it, but I didnât know if marrying me was something sheâd said on a whim.
âHunter...â She looked hopeful and I realized she was still waiting for me to answer.
âI love you, and Iâve never said that to any woman before. I swear to you.â I said.
Blue waited patiently for me to continue.
âBut I donât know if marrying me would be a good decision on your part.â I whispered, making sure to keep my tone low so only she could hear me.
âYouâre pure and innocent and so out of my league, sweetheart, you donât even know.â
Her face fell, âIs it possible that you donât feel the same way about me? Maybe you would rather have a human as your wife.â
âYouâre misunderstanding.â I pointed out. âItâs not that I donât want to marry you, Blue, itâs just that...I donât want to spoil your life or keep you from going to your world by binding you in marriage. This implies if you were a human too. Iâm bad...Iâve done horrible things in my past and I donât deserve you.â
Her lower lip quickened, she recovered quickly and she was furious, âYou want to risk your life? You would rather die than marry me!â
âAgain, you misunderstand, sweetheartââ
âDonât call me that! Donât talk to me!â She yelled.
âGuys...â Adrian sat up from the sofa bed. âWould you please shut up so I can sleep?â
âGo to bed, Adrian. This is a dream.â I told him.
âIs it?â He said in a sleepish voice before falling back onto the pillows and snoring.
Blue drifted away from me, turning her face to the other side, her back was facing my front. I touched her arm but she brushed it away. This was the first time that Blue was angry with me. I missed the warmth of her body against mine. I brushed her aqua hair away and kissed the nape of her neck and trailed kisses down her bare back, she arched under the onslaught of my lips. I heard her sigh.
Feeling a little daring, I slipped my hand towards her waist and caught her breast in my palm. Iâd never seen them clearly, and I had always dreamed of seeing Blue fully naked and worshiping that beautiful body. She turned to face me again and attacked my lips in a frenzied kiss, the type that didnât know any limits. Kiss. Lick. Bite.
She'd heard my thoughts.
She was literally fucking my mouth with her tongue and I wasnât complaining.I came up for air and whispered, âAdrian will see...â
She looked past me in the dark, âheâs asleep. I can feel it.â
I laughed softly, âI donât know how I feel about you feeling other men.â
âHeâs my kind.â She admitted, and then touched my lips which I kissed, âIf you marry me, I promise you that Iâll make you happy. Iâll be the best wife in this world.â
"I wouldn't dare deny that."
I had to laugh again because I couldnât help it. Who could have imagined a woman would ever propose to a man? Certainly not an ordinary one, but a mermaid would.
âIt will most certainly be an honor to marry you, Blue. Youâre the woman of my dreams.â
âAm I really?â A blush crept on her cheeks.
âYou are. All you need to do is read my thoughts, but you need to know a few things before youâre completely sure about your decision.â
âI know your past.â
âIâm not talking about my past, Iâm talking about what you need to expect in the future.â
âIâm listening.â
âIâm not wealthy, Iâm sure you are already aware of that. What I have or what I used to own outside of this apartment belongs to my father. I work in my family restaurant and Iâm paid an average salary like most people who work in restaurants. I have some amount saved up.â I swallowed. âWhat Iâm trying to say Blue is that, I canât give you the best life right now. I study and I work, Iâm still trying to figure out my life. A lot of times; it's hard. Do you think you could manage to be with someone like me?â
She smiled, âYou shouldnât even be asking me that question. Iâm giving up my world to be in yours, to be with you, Hunter. I donât care much about money, or a huge house. Iâm happy here. This life with you makes me so happy...I donât want to leave.â
I stared at her for a minute, wondering why I even deserved this, why I deserved her.
âYou have to quit your job at Luciferâs Den; I wonât allow you to work there anymore. Itâs not safe.â I blurted out, and it felt better to just get it out of my system. Iâd always hated Blue working there, laughing and smiling at all those men leering at her.
There was a moment of hesitation before she smiled. âIâll quit the job.â
The joy I felt at those three words was something I couldnât describe. âYou understand what else entails in a marriage, donât you?â
She blushed but didnât look away, âI know, and I canât wait to find out what it feels like.â
âIâll be your husband and this will be your forever home. You canât wake up one day and decide to leave me.â
She nodded. âI would never leave you, not unless you asked me to.â
I pecked her lips noisily. âGive me one week. Iâll start preparations for our wedding tomorrow.â

Blue âThe dress looks perfect on you.â Hannahâs eyes were shinning with excitement and glee.
I whirled in front of the mirror, admiring myself. âReally?â
âI donât think we would've found a better wife for our Hunter.â Elaine, Hunterâs step-mom said looking appreciatively at me.
âI agree. She looks like a goddess whoâd walked straight down from heaven, right Mom?â Hannah further complimented.
âShe does.â
Itâs been two days since the night when Hunter agreed to marry me. Adrian had been sulking since then and after a lot of arguing, heâd finally given up. He was my friend and I didnât like how I was making him sad but he needed to understand that my happiness was with Hunter and going back to my world wasnât going to help either of them. I would have married Adrian, would he have accepted a wife whoâd chosen another man as a soulmate?
He knew the answer and had agreed to support me on my decision.
Hunter had started preparing for our wedding and had asked Hannah and Elaine to accompany me to choose a wedding dress. Elaine took us to a really nice wedding gowns boutique with a wide range of choices that took me almost an hour to browse through until I found the one that I liked.
Hannah was arranging a little crown over my head. The gown was a beautiful shade of ivory, it was a V-neckline and the bodice was covered in lace and crystal beading. It was elegant and made me look like a perfect bride. My blue hair was something that probably differentiated me from all others.
Elaine placed her hand on my shoulders. âAre you sure your family wonât be coming for your wedding?â
I was overcome with sadness, mixed with pain. I shook my head slowly. âMy father doesnât approve of it.â I couldnât tell them that my family didnât approve because Hunter was human. Hunter had repeatedly told me not to mention anything about my world to his parents, they wouldnât understand.
âWyatt and I could talk to them, honey. They will understand.â She said lovingly, brushing a lock away from my face.
Tears began blurring my vision. âItâs no use.â
âAt least let us try.â She insisted.
I took her hand in mine. I couldnât tell her where I came from but I could at least give her a part of the truth. âI left my home because my parents were forcing me to marry someone I didnât love. They would want me to obey them if I decided to go back home. I canât let that happen.â
She remained silent for a moment and I wondered if it had been best if Iâd been evasive instead of saying something about my family. Merfolk were still very old-fashioned with their rituals and beliefs, and Hunter had told me that his parents or anyone else on land wouldn't understand due to their modern thinking and lifestyle and by the way Elaine was looking at me it was clear that she didn't understand as well.
âHunter is a little overbearing, but I know he will treat you right and that heâll make a good husband. He really loves you. Your parents have nothing to worry about, and I'm sure they will come around.â She said with a smile and then squeezed my hand. âHeâs been through a lot; heâs battled depression that had been caused due to abandonment. Please donât...â
âI will never break his heart or leave him. I promise you, Elaine.â I said with sincerity.
âGood.â She said.
I picked up my bag and produced a ring from it. Hannah and Elaine stared at it with bemused expressions on their faces.
âIs that Hunterâs?â Hannah asked. âIâm sure thatâs Hunterâs ring.â
I gave her a nod. âI wanted to make a wedding ring for Hunter and I knew that if I asked him for the ring size, heâd insist on paying for his wedding ring too.â I paused, âSo I stole this one so I could buy a wedding band with the same size.â
âYouâre a genius, Blue.â Hannah said.
âMy pay was really good at the club and I saved a lot with tips.â I said and then added. âPlease donât tell Hunter about the ring.â
âMom, did Blue say anything?â
âIf she did, I never heard it.â Elaine said.
I smiled. Hunter was so lucky to have these women in his life.
âDonât you worry; Iâll help you buy that wedding ring that Iâve already forgotten about. And then, we will proceed with other wedding preparations.
Thereâs the cake and my maid of honor dress, the damned guest list so many things to do. Iâm so excited!â
She threw a glance at her mother and noticed that she was busy conversing with the dress maker. Hannah caught my wrist and pulled me a little away from the two. She had a mischievous smile on her face. âAlso, I need to...â she fake coughed. â...talk about what you should expect on your wedding night.â
I couldnât wait to find out.
