Chapter 587
Even After Death
Only a wall lamp was lit in the large bedroom. Olivia was wearing thin pajamas and was barefooted as
she curled up in a corner.
Her face was filled with terror. Ethanâs heart broke when he saw that, and he dashed up to Olivia.
âWhat happened, Liv?â
As if grabbing her final lifeline, Olivia threw herself into Ethanâs embrace.
When Ethan saw the wet trails of tears on her face, his heart ached terribly.
âDonât cry. Iâm back.â
Ethanâs body was still wet, but Olivia didnât mind it at all. She gripped Ethanâs arm with both hands. âTell
me, how did our
children die?â
âWhy are you mentioning the children again?â Reaching out, Ethan wiped away the tears on her face.
âI think I saw a person jump from a very high place.â
As Ethan comforted her, he patted her back. âIt was a stormy night, and the rain was heavy that night.
The road was dangerous.
âThe car was out of control, and it veered off the winding mountain road. In the end, it fell into the sea.
Is that the image in your mind?â
Olivia shook her head. She kept mumbling to herself, âI donât know. I donât know anything at all. I just
feel pain in my heart. When I recall the past, my head hurts as well. It feels like itâs going to explode.â
Ethan hugged her head tightly. âThen donât think about it. Itâs in the past now. I didnât want to mention
these things in front of you because I didnât want you to be sad.
âLiv, Iâve said this before. You have me. Letâs not think about the past anymore, alright?â
Olivia slowly calmed down in his embrace. After choking a few times, she stopped crying.
Seeing that Olivia didnât even wear her shoes, Ethan couldnât help but complain, âI know that we have a
heater at home, but you canât go around barefooted.
âYou might get wet easily. Your body is weak enough as it is. It canât handle the cold.â
Olivia replied, âAlright. When I woke up, I didnât see you anywhere, and there was thunder outside. I
donât know what came over me. I was very scared just now. I looked for you everywhere.â
âIâm sorry. I wonât leave without telling you ever again.â
Ethan felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. Crouching down, he picked her up in his arms and took her
back to the room. âIf
you canât find me in the future, just contact me or Brent.
âDonât worry about troubling me. Weâre a married couple, so you can tell me anything, alright?â
While Olivia settled into the warm bed, Ethan poured a glass of warm water for her. âYouâve been
crying for so long. You must be thirsty now.â
Olivia drank some water to wet her throat. Her tears had stopped, but her eyes were still red. She
looked like a little rabbit.
âWhat happened at the construction site? Itâs so late at night.â
âNothing important. Iâm overseeing the project, so I can only rest assured after I take a look at it,â Ethan
explained in brief. Then, he took off his coat.
Olivia noticed some sawdust on the black woolen coat. She thought that it was from the construction
site, so she didnât think too much about it.
Ethan returned to the bed. Then, he reached out and took Olivia into his arms. âItâs still early, so you
can sleep a little while
longer. Iâll tell you a story.â
âOkay.â
Like a startled rabbit, Olivia leaned in his embrace. As she listened to his attractive and melodious
voice, she fell asleep.
She didnât notice that she was becoming more dependent on Ethan by the day. She had spent several
days with him now. Her initial suspicion had turned into familiarity.
She could see that he loved her for real. The look in his eyes and those tiny details couldnât be faked.
Olivia realized that this man was deeply in love with her.
His fingers gently caressed her hair. He pampered her like a child.
She could feel the wedding ring on his ring finger. For the past few days, she never saw him taking it
off.
It felt good to be loved. It felt so good that she could temporarily forget about losing her parents and her
children. Her memory was blank, but she wasnât scared in the least.
Her small hands trembled as they wrapped around Ethanâs waist.
Ethan froze. This tiny movement was proof that Olivia was beginning to open up to him. She was
starting to accept him.
His heart leaped in joy, and he tried his best to suppress the smile on his lips.
âAnd so, the prince and the princess lived happily ever after. They were inseparable until the end.â
The woman in his arms had already fallen asleep. Lowering his head, he planted a kiss on her.
âLiv, weâll also live happily for the rest of our lives, just like that fairy tale,â he thought.
