Chapter 5

03 | prince charming

Two Opposites (OWENS SERIES #2)

After I left my office early yesterday to celebrate my mother's birthday I went to work earlier the next day to get all the things that I needed to do, done. Luckily there was no one at the office at such an early hour and I was glad about that. I didn't like most of the people working at the company because there were being overfriendly whenever I walk past them but I was pretty sure they were talking shit about me behind my back. Not that I'm not used to that but I just hate fake people.

"Of course he didn't look at them. Stupid asshole" I heard my assistant Monica say from the room in front of my office, approximately two hours after I first got to work. I decided to surprise her with my presence because I knew that she didn't expect me to be here yet. And I know that it was me she was complaining about. She is one of the fake people I just mentioned but her hate towards me was always something I knew of. That woman absolutely hated my guts because I'm not as easy of a boss as my father was. I just never heard what Monica was thinking or saying about me.

"You asked for me?" I replied sarcastically and leaned against the frame of my office door, making her head whip towards me in an almost inhumane way.

"No I was talking about my boyfriend" she nervously replied way to quick.

"You can go ahead and meet up with that boyfriend of yours now because you're fired" I said in a monotone voice as if I was talking about the weather.

"You can't do that" she said way to confident and I just laughed. She definitely forgot who she was talking to.

"I just did. Now pack your shit together and when I'm coming out of this office again I want you to be gone" I wanted that woman out of my company the moment I got it from my dad.

A few hours later, I don't know how many because I forgot to count, I was done with my work and got up from my desk to walk out. I was glad that Monica ended up taking my threat seriously and she was long gone like she should be. I left the building and headed straight to the flower shop and I only realized how stupid my idea was when I entered the flower shop and couldn't go out again without going unnoticed. What the fuck was I doing here? I don't even like flowers.

"Hello Mr.Owens" I heard her say my name with her angelic voice and I went straight to the counter where she was standing, already looking at me.

"My mother loved the bouquet you made for her" I said and her face erupted into a huge smile that almost looked like it hurt.

"Oh thank you so much I appreciate it" she replied and looked at me full of expectation.

"Did you come all the way here to thank her for doing her job?" another voice appeared and I looked at the red haired woman who had a mischievious smirk on her face that I wanted to wipe of really badly. I already disliked her and we haven't even had a conversation together.

"No I wanted to ask if Emilia could make another bouquet for my mother" I said without thinking and immediately regretted it. What the fuck was I supposed to do with these flowers. I hate them and I didn't plan on meeting my mother today. Well I guess my plans for today have suddenly changed.

"I'd love to. Give me a second I have to get the flowers" she replied and was gone as quickly as she said it.

"Are you Isaac Owens the billionaire?" the ginger asked and I rolled my eyes letting her know what I think of her.

"I don't know why that should be any of your business" I replied without even looking at her.

"So she wasn't lying when she said she met you" she said and now she caught my attention.

"She told you about me?" I asked and she snorted making her sound like a pig.

"No reason to get all excited Prince charming. She simply told me that someone named Isaac Owens gave her a huge tip. She wasn't talking about being head over heels in love with you" she replied sarcastically and I knew from the beginning why I didn't like her. She thought she was one of these quirky women who love to be different and unique and who think they're the funniest people ever when in real life they're annoying as fuck.

"Fudge Nuggets" I heard Emilia say from the back and I looked at the red head in confusion and a few seconds later Emilia stormed back into the shop and looked at me with apology.

"I'm so sorry Mr. Owens but my shift is over and I have to go meet Clark now" she said and I scrunched my nose at the mention of another boys name coming out of her mouth, not liking it at all.

"Is Clark your boyfriend?" I asked and she immediately shook her head causing my shoulders to fall in relief which didn't go unnoticed by the red head. I heard her whisper something that I couldn't quite catch but to be honest I didn't care. She was probably saying shit anyway.

"Clark is someone I go to med school with. Our doctor partnered us up for a presentation about brain cancer" she said and I looked at her full of interest. So she's a med school student. An imagine of her in a short nurse costume popped up in my head and I quickly tried to get rid of it. Focus Isaac.

"But Myra is just as good at making bouquets as I am and she would love to do it for you. Right Myra?" Emilia asked and the woman, who was supposedly called Myra, unwillingly nodded.

"Great I gotta go though. It was nice seeing you again Mr. Owens. Bye Myra" she said and with that she left the shop, leaving me alone with the obnoxious red head.

"So how does your mother like her bouquets?" she asked and I just scoffed.

"Forget it" I said and turned around. There's no use in buying flowers now.

"I knew it!" she suddenly screamed causing me to scrunch my face at the pinching sound of her voice.

"What the hell are you talking about?" I asked

"You came just to see her" she stated proud of herself as if she figured out the sense of life or something like that.

"Bullshit"

"You know it's not"

"Fuck off"

"So I'm right?"

"You're the most annoying person I've ever met"

"So I've been told" she casually said.

"I wonder why" I said and turned around to leave, tired of this conversation.

"Goodbye prince charming. See you tomorrow" she said and even though I couldn't see her because she was behind me, I still heard the smirk in her voice making me even more furious.

"I'm so sorry for being late. I ran as fast as I could" I panted when I arrived at the table Clark was sitting at, causing him to look at me with amusement.

"It's fine you're only 10 Minutes late you didn't have to rush" he replied and I took out the water bottle from my backpack to calm down. Cardio has never been my favorite type of sport. No sport is usually the type that I go for.

"Do you have the books with you?" he asked and my eyes widened. I knew that I forgot something when I left my shared apartment this morning.

"Fudge Nuggets! I didn't think of that I'm sorry" I said , feeling guilty about not being properly prepared for this. This is so unlike me because I'm usually a really structured and organized person.

"No worries we can share my book" he said and got a little closer to me with his chair and book so that we can look into it together.

.....

We were almost finished with our presentation that was due next week when Clark suddenly cleared his throat making me look at him.

"So do you want to go grab something to eat after this?" he nervously asked and I involuntarily winced. Clark is a nice guy and all but I'm not allowed to date. That's how it has been basically my entire life.

"I'm sorry but I'm really tired and I think it's better for me to go to bed but thanks for offering" I said with a pitiful smile hoping he'd leave it at that but he didn't.

"Maybe some other day then?" he asked hopefully and I couldn't get myself to fully reject him so I just acted like I was honestly thinking about it and would give him a call once I decided. And I know that was a mean thing to do considering the fact that I wasn't planning on going on a date with him but Clark is seriously a really nice guy and I wish I could give him a chance but a potentially broken heart that is caused by dating isn't worth the other consequences that would occur if I'd ever go against his orders and start to date.

"Do you want me to bring you home? It's already quite dark outside" He said and I shook my head.

"No I wanted to meet up with Myra aft-" I started saying but stopped once I realized what I had said and based on the look on his face he noticed too. He wasn't stupid after all. I basically just told him that I didn't want to go to dinner with him not because I was tired but because I didn't want to. Oh dear lord.

"You could've just told me that you aren't interested" he said and stood up after closing his book.

"No it's not like that Clark I swear" I said and stood up as well trying to find words to explain it but nothing came out.

"Just forget it" he replied, the hurt obvious in his voice making me feel even worse for lying. Great Job Emilia you messed up once again.

With my head hung low I made my way over to Myra's apartment because I knew she'd cook dinner for me. I took every opportunity that is given to me in order to not go home and Myra knew I didn't like it there so she always invited me over.

"You were right" I said with a sigh once she opened the door for me.

"I'm always right so you have to be a little more precise with what exactly you're talking about" Myra said with fake arrogance which made me smile.

"Clark asked me if I wanted to grab something to eat with him" I said and let my body fall onto the nearest chair.

"And what did you say?" she asked curiously, sitting down on the chair right next to mine, studying my face closely.

"I said no" I replied and let my head fall onto the table with more force than I intended causing a loud bang and I lifted my head and rubbed my right hand over my forehead because of the burning pain I felt. I heard Myra next to me snicker but I chose to ignore it.

"Good! Prince charming would be devastated, if you had agreed" she casually said and took a bite from her pizza.

"Prince charming?" I asked confused and she nodded as if I should know what she was talking about.

"Isaac from the flower shop" she said expecting me to catch on but I didn't.

"What about him?"

"That guy has a thing for you" she said and I groaned.

"Not again" I complained but she didn't care.

"Hey but I was right about Clark"

"Yeah but Isaac is a whole other story that Clark. That man leads a multi-billion dollar company he has women falling to his feet" I said and took the first bite of my pizza.

"Including you" she said and I wanted  to deny it but the look on her face made it clear that both she and I knew that she was right about that. There's no way you cannot be attracted to him and the fact that he knows that makes things a lot harder.

What do you think of Isaac so far?
