Chapter 11

09 | winggirl

Two Opposites (OWENS SERIES #2)

"So he took his niece with him?" Myra asked while taking out some of the flowers from the back of the shop.

"That's what I just said" I shrugged.

"But didn't she ruin the whole date?" she asked.

"No she didn't! It was actually kind of good that she was with us because it didn't feel as awkward you know? We always had something to talk about because of her" I defended the little girl that I've come to love already.

"I forgot there's people like you who like those little devils. I swear if a woman that I go on a date with brings a child with her I'd run into the other direction as quick as possible. I hate children" Myra said and scrunched her nose as if children are the worst thing in the world.

"Even if you hate kids you can't hate Kaylee. She's the cutest and if she likes you she'll give you so many compliments that you feel like the queen herself"

"That does sound intriguing" Myra admitted making me laugh because if I know one person who loves to fish for compliments it's Myra.

.....

Near the end of my shift I heard the familiar doorbell ringing in the front of the shop and both Myra and I went to see who it was. I immediately spotted Isaac's large figure in the shop but he wasn't alone. With her left hand clutched in his right one there was Kaylee next to him who looked around the flower shop in amazement until her eyes found mine.

"EMILIA!" she shouted and quickly let go of Isaac's hand to and run up to me. I caught her and lifted her up which was surprisingly harder than I thought because when Isaac did it yesterday it looked so effortless. Kaylee isn't very heavy but for someone like me, who is tiny and never lifted heavy things except from the books I have to bring to school it's hard to lift a toddler up who ran towards you quite quickly. Isaac saw me struggling and was about to make some stupid comment I could tell but I was able to shut him up with a single look of mine. Good for him.

"So what can I do for you?" I asked Kaylee once I set her back down.

"You told me I could come to the flowers shop so you can make me a beautiful bouquet of flowers" she said with a smile and I remember that I did in fact told her then shortly after we met. Guess someone couldn't wait to see the bouquet.

"She wouldn't stop talking about you and flowers so I had no other choice but to bring her here. I hope you don't mind" Isaac said and I shook my head in reassurance. Of course I don't mind!

"But Sac you told me we can visit Emilia!" she said shocked as if she couldn't believe Isaac said otherwise so I looked up at Isaac with a raised brow to see if it was true and based on his reaction it was. So he tried to pretend it was Kaylee who wanted to come to the flower shop.

"Kaylee!" he said in a stern voice and the poor girl quickly looked down.

"So princess what flowers do you want in your bouquet?" I asked to quickly change the topic and make the situation less awkward.

"I like those!" she said and pointed at the pink lilies in the corner of the shop.

"Good choice! Let's go get them" I said and she already started to run towards them. She also picked out a few other flowers on the way but the bouquet I made for her mainly consisted of lilies. She said those were her favorite flowers from now on.

While I was busy making the bouquet under Kaylee's attentive stare I saw Myra talking to Isaac who looked as annoyed as always when Myra talks to him.

"Can you make a bouquet of yellow flowers for grandma as well?" she asked when I saw done with hers.

"Of course I can princess" I said and started to prepare another bouquet.

"Uncle sac said to me he can't wait to go on a date with you" Kaylee said as she carefully watched me arrange the flowers.

"Did he?" I said with a smile and shot Isaac a teasing look which caught his attention immediately and he decided to join our conversation.

"Yes he did" Kaylee confirmed catching Isaac attention even more.

"So what did you tell her about me now?" he asked curiously looking down at his niece who was still smaller than him even though she sat on the counter which was really high.

"She told me you want to go on a date with me as soon as possible" I said with a teasing smile and Isaac pressed his lips together in a thin line visibly embarrassed.

"I'm free tomorrow evening if you want to go on a date then I'm up for it" I added and was surprised about my straightforwardness. I never interacted with boys like I interacted with Isaac. It's like my fear of men just vanished when it came to him.

"Yeah I'm totally up for it. I'll send you a text when I'm picking you up tomorrow and no objection I'll pick you up no matter what you say" he said because he knew I would tell him he doesn't have to pick me up.

"Fine" I sighed and handed him his mother's bouquet whereas he handed me the money which became a ritual for us. We didn't even have to communicate when it came to this because he always handed me a 200 Dollar bill much to my dislike.

"Your friend looks like Ariel" Kaylee said before they left and pointed at Myra who looked at Kaylee in surprise but I could have sworn there was a slight smile forming on Myra's face which never happened when Myra looked at children. Kaylee even managed to wrap Myra, who hates children, around her little finger. This girl just knows how it's done.

"I like the girl" Myra said and I laughed. Of course she did.

"Only because you love compliments" I said and Myra nodded.

"You never tell me I look like Ariel. Maybe I should think about making the girl my best friend" she said and I looked at her in shock.

"Just kidding! No one can replace you. But another question Are you and Isaac a thing now? Because the guy seems really whipped" Myra said and I looked at her in confusion. Isaac whipped? Not a chance.

"No were not. We just went out on a few dates that's it. Nothing serious as of right now. You know I've never been in a relationship before and Isaac doesn't seem like he's one to tie down anyway. What were you two talking about though?" I asked.

"Oh nothing special" she shrugged and I looked at her suspiciously.

"Now prince Charming you can't tell me you're not head over heels in love with Emilia" Myra said to me once she came up to me but she made sure to be quiet enough to not let Emilia hear it.

"Oh am I Miss smartass?" I answered with annoyance.

"Your expression gives it away. The way you look at her I mean. And I have to say I do approve of you two simply because she's been happier even since you two met and I'm slowly getting my best friend back" she said making me wonder why Emilia wasn't herself before.

"Your approval doesn't mean anything to me Myra. Even if you said that I should stay away from her I wouldn't. Not because of what you think" I said carelessly. I mean I should stay away but I can't. She's like a magnet and I'm the opposite pole. It's impossible to stay away.

"Well you just confirmed it" she said and I looked at her in confusion. Confirmed what? Before I got to ask my attention went to the beautiful girls at the other end of the shop and I found myself walking up to them.

"So what did you tell her about me now?"I asked Kaylee waiting for an answer but got one from Emilia instead.

"She told me you want to go on a date with me as soon as possible" Emilia said with a smile. Of course Kaylee told her that. You can't tell kids shit without them telling the person you were talking about.

"I'm free tomorrow evening if you want to go on a date then I'm up for it" I heard Emilia say taking me by surprise. I can't believe Kaylee just got me a date with Emilia. I mean I did ask her before if she wants to go out on another date but I thought I'd have to wait a little bit until we can go on another so that it doesn't seem like I'm too desperate.

.....

"Kaylee from now on you're my wingman" I said once we left the shop and headed for my car knowing very well Kaylee doesn't know what a wingman is but I just had to say it.

"But I'm a girl Isaac" she stated matter-of-factly as if she knew something I didn't. Tell me something I don't know Kaylee. She is the female version of Christian which can be a pain in the ass sometimes but most of the time she's nice.

"Then you're my winggirl" I said hoping she'd leave it at that but because she's Christian's daughter of course she had to ask more questions.

"And where are my wings?" she asked and I sighed. This is going to be a long car ride.

.....

"Look grandma I brought you flowers" Kaylee said as she ran towards my mother in full speed. I was carrying Kaylee's bouquet that she was so proud of but she only gave it to me so that she could be the one who give my mother her flowers. Once she gave my mother the flowers she'd demand to have them back I'm pretty sure.

"Wow they're so pretty thank you! Did you make it for me?" she asked as she bent down to be Kaylee's height.

"No Emilia did! She also made my bouquet. See the one Sac is holding" she said and pointed to me.

"Who is Emilia? Does she work at the flowers shop?" she asked curiously and Kaylee nodded.

"And she is Isaac's girlfriend" Kaylee added making my eyes widened at her statement and I mentally slapped myself. I should have expected Kaylee to say something like that in front of my mother. How am I supposed to get out of this now? My mother has been waiting for me to finally find someone hence the hopeful look she was shooting me now.

"Isaac is that true?" my mother asked as she got back up and came towards me.

"Emilia and I just went on a couple of dates that's it. She's not my girlfriend" I said but of course that wasn't enough for my mother.

"But you never go on actual dates and definitely not more than one so she has to be someone special" she stated

"She's definitely special but you know I don't do relationships mom" I said a little bit annoyed that I had to mention it once again. My mother knew that she just didn't want to accept it.

"I still want to meet her. The next time you better not come alone" she said in a warning tone.

"Mom if I ask her to come see my parents she'll be scared as hell! I can't ask her to meet my parents after two dates!" I stated and my mother scrunched her nose because she knew I was right after all.

"Okay fine but promise me you'll introduce her to us soon. I'm really intrigued to get to know the woman who was able to get more than two dates with my son" she said and I sighed but eventually agreed. How the hell am I supposed to tell Emilia that my mother knows about her and wants to see her? This is the type of commitment only people in a relationship would do and as of right now we're not a couple.

"Anthony Isaac has a girlfriend!" my mother said to my father as he entered the kitchen with Kaylee snuggled in his arms, who left the kitchen when she noticed that the conversation between my mother and I was serious. I just told my mom that Emilia isn't my girlfriend and she runs around telling everyone she is? I swear I love my mother but in times like these she just pisses me of.

"Since when?" my father asked surprised. My father didn't push me to have a girlfriend as much as my mother did but I know he wants me to find the right one and eventually settle down. He wanted me to have children who will take over the family company just like I took over from my dad early this year.

"I don't have a girlfriend mom just want me to have one" I said annoyed at my father shot my mother a stern glance making her smile nervously at him.

"Ella I know you desperately want him to start his own family but it's his choice when to do it. Pushing him won't do you any justice" my father said and my mother sighed.

"I just want him to be happy" she pouted sadly making my father walk up to her.

"He is happy can't you see?" he said and kissed her.

Sometimes when I look at my parents and how in love they're still are after almost 23 years of marriage I want to believe that I can happily fall in love as well. But all I can think about is that I hurt the ones that are important to me and that I never want to see someone die again. Not because of me.
