Chapter 9-Crazy Man

Roweena

Roe woke up in a strange place with her head pounding. She was laying on a twin bed in a room that looked like someone had tried to make it into a kitchen area. While laying down, she could see a small cabinet and a refrigerator directly across the room from the head of the bed. As she slowly sat up, rubbing her head, she discovered that the top of her arm, and one leg hurt. Crap, getting shot really hurts.  She thought as she looked at the bandage on her arm. I wonder what happened to my leg?  Then she suddenly remembered.  That rat Savage shot me with a tranquilizer dart. I really don't like that guy.

As Roe looked around the room, she noticed that there was a door right beside the little refrigerator, as well as one beside her on the wall next to the head of the bed.  On the wall across from that door, there was a small table with two chairs next to another door.  There was also a door by the foot of the bed, directly across from the one by the little refrigerator.  This is a very oddly designed room with a door on every wall.

She got up from the bed, and took a couple of steps to the closest door, near the head of the bed. She tried turning the knob but it was locked.

Okay, she thought to herself, I'm apparently not getting out that way. She turned around, and tried to open the other doors. The only door that would open was straight across the room from the first one she tried, and it led to a bathroom. Why on earth put me in a room with so many doors, and lock them all? I wonder which door actually leads out of here.

Just then, she heard a knocking on the first door that she had tried, then it opened. A slender man in odd looking military fatigues was standing there. He was a few inches taller than Roe, had blonde hair that looked like it needed to be cut and green eyes. "Good, you're awake. The boss wants to see you."

"The boss, what boss?"

"The one that had you brought here. Come on." He said, gesturing towards the now open door.

"Why was I brought here? And where is here?"

"The boss will answer your questions."

"Well, who are you?"

"I'm a...I'm just a guard."

"Okay" Roe said slowly not quite believing him, and walked through the door.

As she followed the man claiming to be a guard down the hall, she asked "Can you tell me anything?"

"No, just come on."

"Where are we going?"

"I already told you, I'm taking you to the boss." he said impatiently, turning a corner.

"But-"

"No. Just be quiet." he snapped.

"Fine" Roe huffed.

They finally approached a door that looked the same as all the other doors to Roe, and the guard knocked on it.

"Come in." A voice from behind the door said.

The guard opened the door, and gestured for Roe to enter the room. Roe slowly walked through the door, looking around the room. It seemed to be an office. There was a fireplace and a couple of chairs on the right side of the room, and straight ahead was a large desk with a couple of chairs in front of it. A gray haired man was sitting behind the desk.

"Have a seat." he said, waving a hand at the chairs in front of the desk.

As Roe walked over toward the chairs, the guard closed the door. "Why am I here?"

The man chuckled, "Impatient, aren't we?"

"Yes, especially when I've been kidnapped."

"Kidnapped?"

"Yes, kidnapped. That's what it's usually called when people take you from where you were supposed to be."

"Uh huh. Who exactly kidnapped you?"

What game is this guy playing? "What do you mean, who kidnapped me? Some guys kidnapped me, and I'm guessing they were friends of yours because I woke up here."

"Aah, so you assume because you woke up here, I had something to do with your so-called kidnapping."

"Well, yes. Didn't you?"

"Kidnapping or rescue?"

"I'm confused." Roe said. Does he really think that his men rescued me from the PBI?

"Well, we found you in a hotel room with two men. Are you saying that you wanted to be there?"

Roe rubbed her head, giving herself a moment to think about what to say next. "My head hurts, and I don't remember much about what happened." she said hesitantly.  He's lying.  His men didn't find me in a hotel room, PBI did.

"Okay, well let's start with your name."

"Oh, yeah sorry. My name's Roe."

"Roe?"

"Actually, it's Roweena, but everyone calls me Roe." she said sheepishly.

"Roweena what?" he snapped.

"Roweena Cavenaugh." Roe replied thinking quickly. There's no way I'm giving him my witch name. If he's hunting supernaturals or has some kind of agenda, I'm not giving him any more information. As far as the world is concerned, Roweena Cavenaugh is a normal human.

"Okay." he said, visibly relaxing. "I'm Charles Marsden. Well, now that we're properly introduced, tell me what the last thing you remember is."

He seems to be believing me. "Umm."

"Do you remember the hotel?"

"I remember being at the hotel, my arm burning and hiding behind the bed, and a lot of shooting and yelling." That's an understatement.  I don't think I'm going to tell him about his men taking us from PBI.  If he thinks I'm human, I shouldn't know about them.

"Okay...Do you remember how you got to the hotel? What you were doing before that happened?"

Yeah, I remember. I remember everything, but if you think I'm going to tell you the truth, you're crazy. "I was driving to Sunset to see a friend of mine."

"What friend?"

"His name is Joe." I'd better try to stick close to what his goons could've seen or overheard.

"And why were you going to see this...Joe fellow?"

"I was looking for a job. He owns a bar." A little truth, a little lie, and hopefully he won't be able to tell the difference.

"Aah, I see. Then what happened?"

"I...hit a guy. I hit a guy! Oh, my goodness! Is he all right? Do you know?" Roe started speaking like she was getting hysterical. I hope he's buying this...

"Calm down, don't worry. He's fine."

"Oh, thank goodness. I'd hate to have hurt him."

"Okay, what happened then?"

"I asked him if he was alright, and if he needed a ride." Hmm, do I tell him he was naked? Nah, just go on. "It was the least I could do since I had hit him with my car." She hurriedly continued "Then we were driving on down the road, and saw a wreck. I stopped the car to check on the guy on the road from the wreck, and... and... then I was in the motel and getting shot at." She paused and looked at him. "What happened? How did I get to that motel?" I hope I look confused...

"Ah, I don't know what to tell you. I have no idea how you got there. My men found you in the motel with those two men. We don't know how you got there, either." He told her with a smug expression on his face.

He's lying. He knows more than he's telling me. "So...what am I doing here?"

"We had to find out what you knew."

"What I knew about what?"

"Supernatural creatures."

"Huh." Roe snorted. You're not going to trick me into admitting anything. "I love books about supernatural creatures, but what on earth does that have to do with me being here?" she asked, looking around the room as if she was looking for books.

"No, not books. Real supernatural creatures."

"Supernatural creatures don't exist, not in real life anyway." she huffed. "Please tell me what I'm really doing here."

"Supernatural creatures do exist." he snapped at her. "Don't look at me like I'm crazy. You'll find out shortly that I'm telling the truth."

"Umokay." I guess I'm doing a good job acting stupid, Roe smiled to herself. "So, um my friends are going to be looking for me soon, so I guess I had better be going."

"You're not going anywhere. I have a job for you to do."

"You can't keep me here!"

"Actually, I can. No one knows where you are. I can do whatever I want with you."

Roe fake gasped. "That's-"

"Shut up. You're here, and here is where you're staying. I have a job for you, so sit there and listen to what I'm telling you." he scowled at her. "You're going back to the room you woke up in. The other two doors are going to be unlocked. Behind one of them is a werewolf, behind the other is a vampire. They are both chained to the walls. The chains are very long, and you can shorten or lengthen them, but you can't let them go. I wouldn't give them too much slack, or you'll wind up being a snack for one of them." he smirked at her. "Any questions so far?"

"Why are you keeping me here?"

"I meant any questions pertaining to the job you're going to be doing." he snapped at her, getting up and stalking around the desk towards her. "Do NOT ask me anything else about letting you go or why you're here. You're here because I want you to be. End of story." he yelled.

Geez, what is wrong with this guy?  Roe shrank back into her seat trying to look scared.

"Do you understand?" he growled.

"Yes." Roe said meekly. You have no idea what I could do to you if I had my full powers...but then again, I probably still wouldn't do anything yet.  I really need to find out what's going on first.

"Okay,  now as I was saying, there's enough slack that you can let them go to the bathroom, and into each other's rooms, but not out into the corridor.  There's a bed in each room, but it's up to you whether you leave them chained to the wall, or let them have the beds."

Roe slowly raised her hand.

"Yes?" he asked.

"I'm sorry, but assuming they're real, why would you want them to be comfortable and be able to get together? If they're locked up here, aren't they dangerous?"

"Yes, they're dangerous, but we're looking for a way to combine the two and make a vampire/werewolf hybrid." he said with a maniacal gleam in his eyes. "We're trying to create the perfect soldier."

Oh, crap. So that's why they kidnapped us. I bet they're behind the other disappearances too.

"Your job is to take care of them, feeding, etcetera. I'm assuming they liked you considering we found you with them.  You are to get them to make me a hybrid, using one of the humans we will periodically send you. We will let you all go as soon as we have a hybrid." he said smiling at Roe.

Like I'm going to believe that, you idiot. If we successfully made a hybrid, there's no way you'd let any of us go. We're going to have to get out of here on our own.

"Any questions?" He asked scowling at Roe.

"Um, what am I supposed to feed them?"

"There's a refrigerator in each room. The supplies in the refrigerator are for the occupant of that room. The one in the main room is for you."

"How am I supposed to do this without getting killed?"

"They're sedated for now. The supplies are marked as to whether they're drugged or not.  You can keep them sedated if you wish, as long as you can get me a hybrid."

"Have you tried this before?"

"Yes,  but they haven't cooperated and each time we've wound up with one or the other, not a hybrid. So we're putting them together. This time, they will give me my hybrid, or die trying."

Seriously? I think he has totally lost his mind. I don't think there's actually a way to make a werewolf/vampire hybrid.

"What's so much better about a hybrid?"

"You ask too many questions. Just do as you're told." he screamed at her, "or I can just go ahead and kill you now."

Oh, shit! "Sorry, no I...I'll do what you want." Roe stuttered.  "I'll try my best to get them to make you a hybrid."

"Good." he said staring at her, then yelled "Parker."

Roe jumped in her seat, startled by his yelling.

The door opened and the same guard from before poked his head in. "Sir?"

"Take her back to her room."

"Yes, Sir." Parker says, saluting, then turns to Roe. "Come on".

Roe got up, careful not to startle Marsden, and followed Parker out the door.
