Chapter 530
When There Is Nothing Left But Love
âAre you still there, Scarlett?â Emery asked on the other side of the line.
âYes.â After a pause, I asked, âWhere are you going for your honeymoon?â
She thought about it and said, âI had a talk with Hunter, and we decided to go to the Miralaea for our
honeymoon. The weather is nice over there.â
There was a noise coming from the bedroom, so I quickly said, âHave a safe flight then. I think Summer
is up, so I have to go and check on her.â
We said our goodbyes and hung up.
Summer was awake. She was curled up under the blanket, and she still appeared to be weak. When
she saw me, she said softly, âMommy, Iâm thirsty.â
I poured her a glass of water and brought it to her lips. I placed my hand on her forehead to check her
temperature and found that the fever had subsided.
âMommy.â Seeing that I was lost in thought, Summer called out to me and passed me the cup.
I came around and took the cup from her hand.
Then, I pulled the blanket up to her chin and asked, âDo you want to sleep for a little while more?â
Summer shook her head. âI donât want to sleep anymore. Did Mr. Crest say that I can get out of bed?â
I smiled faintly and said, âOf course, you can.â
With that, she threw the blanket off her and got out of bed. Although her fever had subsided, she still
seemed a little tired.
It had stopped snowing. Standing by the window, I stared at the snow-covered ground and was lost in
thought.
What was the exchange between Ashton and Marcus? It must have been something that triggered both
men to be in a fight.
Ashton had always been able to keep his emotions under control, and he wouldnât get angry easily.
An hour later, I received a call from Camelia. âLetâs have a talk, Scarlett.â
I could tell from her tone that she was anxious. âOkay.â
âAre you free to go out?â
I cast a glance at Summer. She was lying on the sofa, and she was about to fall asleep.
âIâm afraid not.â
There was a pause before she said, âAshton bought most of the White Corporationâs shares at a high
price. Together with the fake news of White Corporationâs shares falling, the rumours about the three of
you, and him cooperating with other investment companies to crush White Corporation. Why is he so
ruthless?â
I know nothing much about the stock market. But from what Camelia had said, it seemed to have
reached a critical stage.
âIâm not quite sure about this. Perhaps you can find out what did Marcus said to Ashton at Emeryâs
wedding.â Women should never interfere in the battle among men.
She sighed. âScarlett, you donât have to worry about any losses because Ashton is backed by a ten-
year HiTech company. But that is not the case with White Corporation. For the past few years, things
are not looking good. OrbitTech was acquired by White Corporation in a short four yearsâ span.
Although itâs profitable, it canât be compared to HiTech. Ashton loves you, so please ask him to have
some mercy.â
I felt a sense of annoyance after hearing that. Clamping down on my emotion, I asked, âDid Marcus
asked you to say that?â
âAre you angry?â she asked irritably in return.
âYes.â
âScarlett, Marcus is my fiancé and the father of my child. I have to defend him and help him. You can
resent me all you want. But Iâm begging you, please.â
âAshton is my husband. Did you ever think of that before you asked me to help you?â I sighed and
continued. âCamelia, you and I are the same. We stand by our men.â
After a pause, I said, âI wonât intervene in the matters concerning Marcus and White Corporation. If you
really think of me as your friend, please stop with this emotional blackmail. I wonât participate in the
business affairs and I wonât do anything to go against Ashton.â
I hung up the phone and composed myself. When I turned around, I saw that Summer had fallen
asleep.
Initially, I wanted to sit for the admission test. But as the day went by, I missed my admission test.
That evening.
When Ashton returned home, he looked somewhat tired, probably still a little hungover.
Seeing me sitting dazedly in the living room, he put down the car key and walked over to me. He pulled
me into his arms and asked gently, âWhy didnât you give me a call?â
I was taken aback for a moment. I looked up at him, and my eyes fell on his evening shadow. âIâm
afraid that youâre busy.â
He leaned his head on my shoulder and said, âNothing is more important than you.â
After a few seconds, he asked, âWhatâs for dinner?â He scanned the living room and asked, âWhereâs
Summer?â
âSheâs asleep in her bedroom. She was running a fever this morning,â I said. I wondered if I should ask
him about Marcus.
He nodded and cuddled me. âJared came over?â
I answered with a yes. After being silent for a moment, I looked up at him and said, âI saw the news this
morning. Fuller Corporation bought quite a few shares in OrbitTech. Is Fuller Corporation venturing into
the AI sector?â
It wasnât a straightforward question. But he had a strong insight, and he could tell what I really wanted
to ask.
Ashtonâs expression darkened and he asked, âWho called you today?â
For a moment, he realized that his tone was a little too harsh. He controlled himself and said, âIâll take
care of the business side of things. Donât worry about it.â
Although he sounded gentle, there was a hint of coldness in his words.
I understood what he meant. He didnât want me to get involved, and he had his own way of dealing with
the matter between Marcus and him.
