Chapter 21

Greyson’s POV

Mikaela agreed to dinner and allowed Autumn another hug before we left. I must admit, it surprised me at how well my Kitten was taking this and how welcoming she was about Mikaela and my child with another woman even if that woman is only human. Autumn is in the kitchen with my beta’s mate cooking dinner. We aren’t having a huge dinner party, but thought we would have a few more wolves around to make Mikaela a little more relaxed with us just having a normal dinner party without so much awkwardness surrounding us, she can get to know some of our friends who are instructed to make her feel welcomed. Autumn has prepared for this all week long, cleaning and shopping. She has the scent of lavender wafting through the house to subdue our guest into a calming state, she tries to make the ambience warm and inviting.

Mikaela arrives on time and Autumn is the best hostess to her, she surprises me at how social she really is, growing up she was so aloof, she must have come out of her shell when at the other pack. Autumn embraces Mikaela as if they are old friends and she introduces her to our other guests, and Mikaela is a little nervous, but it doesn’t take her long to warm up to everyone, Autumn’s friends being welcoming and inviting, I have to hand it to these ladies, they show a lot of class and integrity. Not everyone would be so gracious to their best friend’s husband’s pregnant ex-lover.

Dinner is excellent, conversation stays neutral and no one is talking about the elephant in the room. We talk about child hood and how Autumn was a rebellious child all the way through. “Wow, so you all grew up together? You rarely see that anymore, you know, how close you all are.” We get quiet because we don’t know how abnormal it may seem to her for us to be close. “It’s just like family, especially for me, after losing my parents these guys became my family.” Autumn offers as an explanation. It’s true a pack is a family, we are closer than most humans are in their families, we really didn’t think about how odd this may seem to her, especially given the fact that this was just a few of our pack members, I could only imagine if we were in the pack house with all the wolves coming and going, all the pack knows we have a human guest with us, but they do not know who or why she is here. I do not intend on everyone finding out about her just yet. They will find out soon enough.

After dinner we talk some more about child hood memories and Tabitha fills the air with stories of her teenaged years while Autumn was away. She tells a story about everyone going to the falls and how I had come out there intending on shutting the party down, but instead I became the ring leader and was turning flips off the cliff. Autumn looks at me and says “Surely not, surely he has always played by the rules.” He smirks at me and says “I always had to when you were around, you broke enough rules for everyone.” She smiles and winks at me. “Makes you love me all the more” Tabitha and Sadie both laugh at this and Sadie says “Kitty cat, you could burn the pack house down and he would still love you.” She’s right, but I am hoping Mikaela didn’t pick up on the pack house part. I think Sadie realizes her slip of tongue when I see her cheeks become a slight pink. Mikaela asks Autumn, “Kitty cat? How did you get that nick name?” I laugh and answer for my mate, “when she was little she was always up in a tree and earned the name Kitten from her dad. Sadie is really the only one that calls her any variation of the original nick name.” She smiles and says “awe that’s so sweet that everyone still calls you that.” I can see that Mikaela is in awe of Autumn, but it’s not that hard to be smitten with her.

Sadie and Tabitha are the first ones to leave and my beta and his mate are the next ones to bid us all goodnight. Mikaela then says she should be leaving as well, when I get a mind link by my gamma wolf, he had been out with some of our warriors going to different packs to get a feel of who we can trust and who might be against us. He has now returned and is on his way to our house. I give Autumn a look and mind link her that we are about to have company. Not even a minute after Vincent comes barreling through the door, he stops and sniffs and his eyes land on Mikaela, he looks to her, then to Autumn then me and back to Mikaela. He mind links me ‘the human, she is my mate’ oh if this just doesn’t make this situation all the more complicated. This is a Jerry Springer show waiting to happen. I mink link Vincent back and tell him, we need to talk alone about his mate. He is going to be so angry that he might reject her knowing she is carrying my pup. It will be what it will be. He steps forward to her and he introduces himself and I can see that she is drawn to him. The bond is working already, oh moon goddess why? This is all I need now. She barely whispers “it’s you, I have seen you before, in a dream, you were you, but you become a wolf, I have this dream almost every night.” She pauses and shakes her head “I am sorry, I know that seems really weird, but it’s you, I can’t explain it, it’s so surreal, I, I, I think I need to sit down.” She is visibly shaken up. I don’t know what to say, Autumn steps in and leads Mikaela to sit down and offers her some water. Vincent makes his way to her and kneels down in front of her and she just takes in his features and reaches out with her hand and she shakes her head and begins to laugh almost as if she can’t believe what she is saying. “Why do I dream about you? I have a feeling that you know” she looks at me, then to Autumn and back to Vincent. “In fact, I think you all know why? Can someone tell me what’s going on?” Autumn is the one to speak, “Mikaela, do you believe in fairy tales?”
