Chapter 9

6. LUCKIER THAN THE FLASH

Matters Of The Heart ✔

Hey y'all, I am so terribly sorry for the VERY late update but I have been super busy with work and university, lately.

Forgive me for any errors in the chapter since it isn't edited and I hope that you enjoy reading it.

Have a great day. ♥️

Eliza's bottom lip quivers as she sits in the passenger seat with me along with, both, Ezra and Elijah in the back.

I frown in concern as I look at her red, puffy nose and glistening eyes.

"Quit eyeing my babygirl and start the car." Elijah grumbles.

My lips thin and I stare blankly at him through the rear view mirror. Both him and Ezra laugh as Ezra spoke to him in Italian and say, "Taglia, Elijah. Sai che alla fine finiranno insieme."

(Shut Up, Elijah. You know they're gonna end up together.)

I smirk smugly at Elijah. Elijah learned Italian from Ezra. At first, he was a lost case but he eventually got the hang of it.

My eyes travel to Eliza who sits rigid in her spot with clenched fists and a face that looked like it'll explode any moment due to the amount of tears she was trying to hold back.

I place my hand on her arm and she flinches before relaxing but still doesn't look at me.

"He'll be back before you know it, bambi." I whisper to her.

Her plump lips form an adorable pout and I stroke her head one last time before igniting the engine and driving to the airport.

They are, obviously, travelling through the private jet so we park in a secluded at the back of the airport and get out.

Eliza immediately buries her head in Elijah's chest making me shift uncomfortably on my spot near the car. Ezra gives my back a pat while coming to stand beside me.

I look at him with a smile and give him a side hug.

"Take care of yourself and mom and dad, yeah kiddo?" he instructs squeezing my bicep.

I nod and reply, "I will. You look out for yourself and I will miss you."

"Me too." he smiles back.

"Take care of her, too. She looks at you like you're a God." he adds while gazing at the scene in front of him.

Elijah is whispering sweet nothings to her and is promising her to come back as soon as it possible for him. Eliza, in response, only shakes her head in negative while mumbling him to stay for a little longer.

"I love you, babygirl. I'll be back, I promise and then you won't have to worry about me going anywhere ever again." he whispers finally and beckons me to come closer using his hand.

I cross the distance between us in three long strides and stands next to a sobbing Eliza. My heart clenches upon seeing her tomato colored face painted in tear stains and a short hiss escapes my lips, involuntarily.

Elijah places her hand in mine and removes her tight grip from his shirt before giving me a brief hug and turning away to walk to the plane. I bring Eliza closer to my chest as she starts to thrash more and more in my hold seeing her brother walking away.

I grab the back of her head and she buries her nose in the crook of my neck.

"It's alright, baby. You'll see him very soon. Stop crying now, he and I both hates to see you cry." I whisper in her ear making her shiver slightly.

"Come on, let me have a look at my most favorite face." I coo and she stops sniffing instantly.

I soothe her hair and a sigh of relief escape her lips as she begins to calm down gradually and pulls away after a while making me see the most beautiful sight ever.

My breath hitches as I take in her soft features for the millionth time. Her face, by now, is surely inked in my brain plaguing every nook and corner if it.

"There's my adorable girl." I whisper softly and kiss her forehead.

Her cheeks tint a light shade of pink making me chuckle. We leave the airport after waving goodbye, one last time.

"Do you want to have ice cream?" I ask closing the driver's side door.

She nods quietly and look outside, still sad over the fact that she won't be seeing her brother for another couple of months.

I turn the radio on and the song 'Stereo hearts' starts playing.

It's one of my favorites. But not only mine though, Eliza starts to sing along the melody making me grin in appreciation.

If I could only find a note to make you understand,

I'd sing it softly in your ear and grab you the by the hand.

Just keep me stuck inside your head like your favorite tune,

And know my heart's a stereo that only plays for you. She sang.

My heart's a stereo, it beats for you so listen close.

Hear my thoughts and every notes, oh oh. I begin to sing with her.

Make me your radio and turn me up and when you feel low,

This melody was meant for you to sing along to my stereo. She continues.

I am amazed when I hear her rap along, too. Is there something she isn't perfect at?

I think I finally found a note to make you understand,

If you can hit it, sing along and take me by the hand.

Just keep me stuck inside your head like your favorite tune and know my heart's a stereo that only plays for you. I sing looking at her in adoration while we stop at a red light.

She giggles and slaps my arm playfully before moving my face to look away from her using her forefinger but I only look back at her with a cheeky smile on my face.

She covers her face with both of her hands earning a hearty laugh from me. The light turns green and the traffic moves breaking our small moment. After two minutes, I park the car outside a small ice cream shop and hop off. Rounding the car, I open her door and she jumps out to run inside.

Shaking my head in amusement, I follow her and see her standing in the queue. A guy who's standing in front of her purposely tries to touch his back with her front and from the fidgeting she's doing, I can bet my fucking ass that she's uncomfortable.

My jaw ticks as he takes another step back, all the while playing cool, and I walk towards them in hurry. Eliza turns around just in time to see me patting the guy's shoulder. I grab her wrist and push her behind me as he turns around with a smug smirk. Grabbing him by the collar, I punch him square in the jaw and shove him away.

"DON'T FUCKING TOUCH MY GIRL. PEOPLE LIKE YOU SHOULDN'T EVEN BREATHE THE SAME AIR AS HER." I roar in anger.

His face pales as he stares at me from where he fell on the floor and wipes the blood from his mouth before mumbling an apology.

"What did you say?" I question menacingly.

"Sorry." he answers with a terrified expression.

Eliza gasps and attempt to pull me back from my jacket but I am too busy being furious.

"LOUD AND CLEAR." I shout.

"I am sorry. I won't do it again." he whimpers pathetically.

"Get out." I say.

He stands up and dashes out in the blink of an eye. I turn around to see everyone gawking at me.

"What y'all looking at? Show's over." I spit out.

"Come on, we're not eating from here." I say quietly, turning to Eliza.

I wrap my arm around her waist and walk out. She's quiet and looks scared. I sigh and push her back gently against the passenger door.

"I'm sorry for lashing out like that, bambi. But I will never allow anyone to do that you, let alone look at you in my presence." I whisper softly, tucking her hair behind her ear.

She gulps audibly and nods looking at my chest. I hug her tightly yet gently and kiss the top of her head, mumbling another 'I'm sorry' before buckling her in her seat and settling in mine afterwards.

We stop at another ice cream parlor and eat our waffle cones inside the car since neither one of us felt like going inside.

I tell her a few stories of when I stayed in Italy with my grandparents to lighten up her mood and, much to my happiness, it works.

By the time I drop her home, it's lunch time so we have lunch together with her parents who took the Saturday off and I say my goodbyes after that.

"We're going out tomorrow, wear something white and casual." I say as she stands outside near my car.

Her eyebrows furrow but she nods and asks, "Where?"

"That's for me to know and for you to find out tomorrow. I'll pick you up at sharp twelve. We'll have lunch first and the rest is mystery." I wink at her.

"I don't like surprises." she pouts.

"Trust me, you'll love this one." I assure her.

"Oh and it's a date." I add and feel my ears heat up.

Her lips twitch a little and her eyes gazes moves from my one red ear to another before she blesses me with her beautiful laugh.

She throws her head back as her eyes shut tightly, crinkling at the sides, and one hand rests where her heart is.

"Stop." I mutter in embarrassment and look around to make sure no one's looking.

It only makes her laugh more but it slowly dies down as she looks at me with twinkling eyes and a breathtaking smile.

"Sure." she whispers shyly with red cheeks.

She struck me like a lightning in that moment and I felt luckier than the Flash.
