Chapter 2138
Night of Destiny
Ethan, however, grabbed Josephineâs injured hand and began to examine her wound. With a smile,
she murmured, âIâm fine. Itâs just a scratch.â âWhat happened?â Ethan asked again..
âI fell down by accident!â âMr. Quarlesâ¦â A warm-hearted female colleague wanted to tell the truth, but
she was immediately stopped by Josephineâs stern glare. âLetâs eat!â Josephine did not want Ethan to
know the truth. After all, as a reporter, she was used to being shoved by security officers.
Ethan sensed that Josephine wasnât willing to tell him what had happened, and hence, he decided to
ask her again later. Meanwhile, Josephine was piling food onto his plate, taking care of his every need.
Though Ethan was used to more high-end restaurants, he found the food in this restaurant to be just as
delicious.
âThese are good,â he remarked, feeling hungry. Although they were not in an elegant setting, Ethanâs
eating demeanor still mesmerized all of Josephineâs female coworkers.
An attractive man indeed appears elegant regardless of where he is or what he eats! At the same time,
Tori was in Atticusâ office, biting her red lip indignantly as she crossed her arms. âIt was only a meal.
Why couldnât Mr. Quarles show me some respect?â
âEnough of that. He only has Josephine in his heart, Atticus reminded her, implying that Tori should
stop her wishful thinking of clinging to Ethan.
âJosephine is just a simple woman. In what way am I inferior to her?â Tori scoffed and continued, âI
heard that youâre intending to nurture her to be Miss Ainâs successor. Is she really that capable?â
âMr. Quarles even asked me where Josephine was working today. I can tell he genuinely loves her.â
Atticus began to worry that Ethan would blame him for assigning such a task to Josephine.
âI donât care, Mr. Kowalski. If any such. opportunity arises again, remember to tell me!â Tori smilingly
said, clearly not going to give up so easily
Atticus felt helpless. Both Katrina and Tori were interested in Ethan, putting Atticus in the difficult
situation of being caught in the middle. Meanwhile, Josephine got into Ethanâs posh car after lunch. As
she still had work to do, Ethan had no choice but to send her back to the company. Josephine expected
him to leave after dropping her off. Much to her surprise, Ethan stepped out of the car with her. âWhy
are you not returning to the hotel?â
âIâll walk you to the office.â âUh⦠Thatâs not necessary!â Josephine did not want to be in a high-profile
relationship, and she wanted it to be out of public view.
âWhy? Am I such a disgrace to you that you donât want to be seen walking with me?â Ethan pretended
to be upset and ruffled her hair. âOf course not! Iâm just afraid they will start competing with me for you,
Josephine retorted with a chuckle.
âDonât worry,â Ethan replied determinedly. âIâm all yours. Nobody can ever take me away from you.â He
didnât tell Josephine that Tori had wanted to have lunch with him earlier for ulterior intentions, for fear
Josephine would start overthinking.
Hearing Ethanâs words, Josephine immediately felt secure. âIâm yours too.â Ethan then walked
Josephine to her office. The moment they entered the spacious office, the busy office immediately went
so silent that they could hear a pin drop.
Josephine is so blessed to have Mr. Quarles send her to work! everyone mused. Josephine, on the
other hand, assumed that Ethan would be leaving. However, the man grabbed a chair and sat down
right behind her, randomly taking a book to read at the same time.
She felt uneasy as she noticed that all of her coworkers were fearfully looking in her direction and did
not dare to say anything, resulting in complete silence in the office.
Hence, Josephine turned around and softly suggested to Ethan, âPerhaps you should go back first.
Your presence here is making everyone stressed.â âCanât I accompany you while youâre working?â
Ethan asked aggrievedly.
âJust look around⦠Everyone is afraid of you!â Josephine whispered. Ethan raised his head but at this
instant, all of the coworkers who had been looking earlier quickly lowered their heads, not daring to say
anything.
