Chapter 45
Wife
Chapter
A sharp pain shot through Theodoreâs arm, but he remained composed and nonchalant.
âMom, Dad, youâre here.â
Wesley tugged at his tie and awkwardly cleared his throat. âIf you
have something to discuss, you should move to your room for privacy. Arenât you afraid of being seen and laughed at for doing that here? Were you two in that much of a hurry?â
Rebecca walked over with her cane, smiling warmly. âI donât think youâre in that much of a hurry. Otherwise, why is Roseâs belly still flat? Theo, it seems like you need to be even more anxious.â
Theodore furrowed his brow, a hint of embarrassment flashing in his eyes. âGrandma, itâs not what you think.â
âYou pinned your wife down on the couch and kissed her
passionately. How else should we interpret that?â
Rebecca didnât beat around the bush. After all, they were all adults who were experienced in these matters. There was no need to pretend otherwise.
Theodore was at a loss for words. If no one had come in, he couldnât guarantee what might have happened next.
Rosalie seemed frightened. She quickly got up from the couch and ran to Rebeccaâs side, holding onto her arm.
âGrandma, please stop.â
Seeing her granddaughterâinâlaw blush, Rebecca smiled kindly yet mischievously. âWhatâs there to be embarrassed about? Shouldnât your belly be showing by now?â

Rebecca gently patted her flat abdomen. âTheo, how about we give space in the living room now? Weâll leave first. You and make sure Rose has a baby.â
Rosalieâs eyes widened as she shook Rebeccaâs arm. âGrandma, please stop!â
Where was her sense of shame?! Such vulgar words! It was so embarrassing!
Rosalie felt like she couldnât show her face. She hid behind the old lady, keeping her head down.
Theodoreâs expression stiffened for a moment, but it quickly
disappeared. To change the subject, he turned and approached his mother. It seemed like it had been a long time since he had seen her. Theodoreâs eyes sparkled with surprise, revealing a childlike expression for the first time.
âMom.â
Sydney Harper nodded slightly in a graceful and refined manner. Her face didnât have much expression, but it wasnât cold either. Holding a handbag and wearing high heels, she was wearing a white suit that looked elegant and professional. Her long black curls were neatly tied in a low ponytail.
At first sight, she was an unforgettable beauty. Even standing before Theodore, it was hard to guess she was his mother. Having taken good care of herself, she looked like she was not yet forty.
Wesley stood to the side, keeping his distance from Sydney. The atmosphere between the husband and wife seemed somewhat awkward, as if they were strangers.
The scene suddenly became tense, which Theodore had intended to divert attention from. But instead, had only made things more

uncomfortable between his parents,
Rosalie looked on in puzzlement the scene before her. She knew that her inâlaws lived separately, but beyond that, she wasnât aware of the details. Her family members hadnât said much to her about it, and naturally, she didnât pry.
âGrandma, dinner is almost ready, and everyone is here. Shall we head to the dining room?â Rosalieâs timely voice broke the silence.
Sydney approached Rebecca and politely said, âMom, itâs been a while. Iâve been so busy lately that I havenât been able to visit you. How have you been?â
âIâve been fine.â Rebecca smiled. âEverythingâs been good.â
Rebecca then turned to her son. âWesley, whatâs wrong with you?
Your wife has come all this way, and youâre wearing such a gloomy expression.â
