Chapter 324
Wife
âNo,â Theodore said in a panic. âI wonât interrupt you. Go ahead and read your documents, but donât hang up.â
He wanted to help her with her work.
Rosalieâs eyes flashed with doubt. âWhy?â
âNo particular reason. Just donât hang up and continue with your work.â
âFine.â Rosalie didnât know what Theodore was up to. She pushed her phone away, and continued reading.
When she was finally done reading through every single document, she felt overwhelmed with fatigue. Eye bags hung heavily below her eyes.
She stumbled to the hall, and saw Sydney preparing breakfast in the kitchen.
Upon hearing footsteps, Sydney turned around. âYouâre done?â
Rosalie nodded. âYes.â
âYou were up the whole night. I thought youâd at least sleep a little last night.â
Rosalie smiled and sat at the table, still in a daze. She slumped on the table and said, âI felt a burst of energy, and wanted to read through everything in one go. Before I knew it, the sun was rising.â
She placed her phone on the table.
Sydney served up breakfast on the table, and realized that she was still on a call with Theodore.
Sydney smiled. âMy dear child, youâre so hardworking. Theo thought that I was bullying you, and told me off.â
Rosalie sat up straight.
âIs that so? Theo, did you do that?â she demanded unceremoniously.
âI didnât! Rose, donât listen to her. I didnât tell her off.â
Theodore didnât dare to admit, for fear Rosalie might explode on him.
Sydney rolled her eyes. âDeny it, wonât you?â
âHow can I admit to something I never did?â Theodore said stubbornly.

âForget it. I wonât count it against you, since youâre my son. Anyway, Rose would certainly trust me.â
Sydney was very confident that her daughter-in-law would stand on her side.
âRose,â Theodore asked, âyou trust me, donât you?â
âNot at all,â Rosalie said irritably.
Theodore felt upset. âI was just

âI was reading through information about a company,â Rosalie said truthfully.
âWhich company?â Theodore pressed.
âWhy are you asking so many questions?â Sydney yelled at the phone. âIâm having breakfast with Rose, goodbye.â
âWait! Rose, go to sleep immediately after breakfast. Do you hear me?â
Rosalie yawned and rubbed her nose. âWhy should I listen to you? Youâre not my husband.â
âIâm your brother.â
That seemed to be Theodoreâs final stubborn attempt.
âYouâre not my brother,â Rosalie said as she slumped weakly on the table. âI donât want you as my brother.â
Perhaps because her brain cells were all dead from last night, her mind was buzzing. She was so exhausted, she didnât bother thinking through what she was saying.
She didnât want to acknowledge Theodore as her brother. She didnât have a brother, and she didnât want him as one.
âWhat did you say? Why not?â Theodore said, on the verge of flaring up.
âPlease! We used to be married and are not divorced. What is this talk about being my brother? Quit fooling around.â âRose, even though weâre divorcedâ¦â
âAlright, alright. I know. Goodbye.â
Rosalie knew what he was going to
