84 Raid 3

The slab slowly raised a bit. The officer let go of the rope and came to see what was inside.

"I can see something. It is yellow. I think it is gold! Pull harder." He announced aloud.

"Sir, please verify it yourself." The local politician urged from the side. My eyes were on him. I found his actions weird. I remember that he was loyal to my dad in my previous life. Now he was adding oil to the fire. But at the same time, he was inching away from the scene.

The officer excitedly waved his hand signalling to pull the rope as he inched closer to the slab. With one strong pull, the slab moved out of the pit.

The officer leaned over the pit.

The view inside became clear to him.

"Wait... Stop..." he screamed to stop the curious crowd, which was pushing him towards the pit in an attempt to peek inside.

But his attempt failed. The crowd pushed him... into the pit.

"Aahh..." He screamed. Fortunately or unfortunately he managed to prevent falling into the pit by supporting himself with all his limbs on the edges of the pit.

The crowd took a look into the pit and immediately withdrew pinching their noses.

We all laughed and watched the scene from a safe distance.

The people started running away with their noses covered. The cameramen, who were struggling to give a live feed of the event, were no longer interested in the flash news, and they, too, retreated. The security who was excitedly talking and taking credit for everything was ran backwards. Even the policemen backed away from the spot. The only one left was the police officer on all fours just above the pit. He wanted to cover his nose, but he was barely preventing himself from falling into the pit.

I felt pity for him. If he raises his hand, he might fall into the pit.

"Mmmm... Stop watching and help me up..." He screamed while struggling not to breathe in. He shook his head in disgust. Then, to every onlooker's amusement, his hat fell into the tank.

Silence filled the area.

Fortunately for him, the policemen returned and saved him.

"Ughh..." He almost vomited.

"Sir... where is the gold?"

"Please take the gold immediately. Hahaha..." Soon, the crowd started jeering at the officer.

"You..." His face turned red in anger.

"Police uncle..." Anuchi called him from the top.

He turned towards us.

"Did you see a bone toy? It was Doodu's. We accidentally flushed it last month." Anuchi asked with an innocent face.

This elicited a round of laughter from the crowd. The officer's face turned even uglier.

"Shut up." Mom kicked her.

Even I wanted to kick her. Her tongue might lead to the end of our bloodline.

"Let's leave." the officer decided to leave. He didn't even want to retrieve his hat from the tank.

"Wait." Before he could take a few steps, he was stopped by the local politician who was adding oil to the fire earlier.

"What do you want?" The officer asked furious. He was clearly embarrassed and wanted to leave as soon as possible.

"Are you going to leave just like that? Don't you know you should cover it before leaving?" The politician asked.

"Don't think of leaving like this without taking responsibility. There are many cameras here. You better cover that up before leaving." Another one added.

The officer looked around. The villagers had surrounded them and there were many cameras still focused on him. He gritted his teeth and turned around.

"Everyone, push it back." The officer ordered everyone to push the slab back into its place.

But no one moved.

"You..." He looked at the crowd bewildered.

"Umm... I think I sprained my neck earlier. I can't help you." The local politician made an excuse with a devious smile. I was impressed. He was a true sample of a politician.

Even some of the policemen had sneaked away then moment the tank was opened. The people they brought to dig the pit had also disappeared.

With no other choice, the policemen pushed the slab back into the spot. Fortunately for them, it was easier than pulling it out. The security came running to help them. The officer glared at him. If looks could kill, that look would have been the one way ticket to hell or heaven for the security. Then they covered the ditch also with dirt.

"You can't blame me. I told you many times that it is our poop tank." Anuchi said loudly to the policemen who turned to leave.

The officer gnashed his teeth and suppressed his anger.

In the end, they left without anymore comments.

The people also dispersed while happily chatting.

Only those who were close to us stayed to talk. The local politician came and greeted mom. I felt a bit guilty for misunderstanding earlier.

"How was my performance?" He asked with a mischievious smile.

"Aren't you afraid of him retaliating?" Mom asked.

"Hahaha... I have lived long enough. Also, what do I have to fear now that I have the support of Phillip sir." He replied laughing.

Mom looked helpless. She decided not to argue with him. I too felt that he had a few screw loose. He left after saying a few pleasantaries.

"None of this would have happened if you had allowed me to dig it completely. You cannot blame me for this. Also, everyone saw my poop. I don't even know how I am going face my friends tomorrow. I am the victing here." Anuchi decided to take anticipatory bail.

"Go sit in the corner." Mom still decided to punish Anuchi.

"For what?" Anuchi wasn't ready to go down without a fight.

"For scaring Pichu in the morning," Mom replied while pointing at the corner.

"This is injustice. you are misusing your authority as a mother to silence me." Anuchi protested. In our family, she is the only one who dares to argue with Mom. But still she knew that it wasn't a good idea to be disobedient when mom wasn't in her best mood. So went to the corner.

She crouched in the corner. The moment Anuchi sat down, Piya started walking around dramatically while stomping the floor. Within seconds, I, Pichu and Doodu joined her. This is our way of making fun of the one getting punished as the one getting punished is not allowed to walk around.

"I will break legs of all of you once I get up from here." Anuchi threatened.

We decided to ignore her threat and decided to dance while mocking her.

"Sometimes, I am happy that I have only one." Arjun's mother said while looking at us.
