Chapter 643

Ice and Fire

Not needing any other convincing, Greg went upstairs without another word to Sharon Qin.

When he got to his room, Greg laid in bed lazily, but didn't fall asleep. Staring up at the ceiling through half-closed eyes, Greg's mind was filled with memories of Violet, from her brilliant smile to her crying that afternoon. It made his heart ache to recollect her. He reflected, 'How did we get here? Is it because I didn't protect her well? Or did I not know her at all? How could she be so worried about Roger at the door of the emergency room this afternoon? She didn't even hesitate to donate blood for him! How could she do that for another man!'

The worry in Greg's eyes gradually turned to anger as he recalled what had happened in the hospital. Overwhelmed by mixed feelings, Greg's mind became totally perplexed. Over the years, he had dealt with everything in a rational way, except when it involved Violet. His mind was always in a whirl when he dealt with Violet, and he even lost his mind at times over her.

'Violet, why do you always make me suffer? My heart has been such a mess for over five years!' Greg thought.

That evening, Greg sat in the dining room with Fred and Sharon Qin. Fred had a calm expression as he ate his entire meal silently.

With neither Fred nor Greg speaking, Sharon Qin thought dinner was too dull, so, in an attempt to lighten the mood, Sharon Qin suddenly smiled and said,"Oh, I almost forgot, Greg? Tina will be back tomorrow, and I told her you would pick her up at the airport tomorrow afternoon."

"No, I will not," Greg replied without hesitation. He took another bite keeping his chopsticks in his hand, showing that he didn't want to talk about this any further.

Sharon Qin didn't know what to say for a while. She looked at Fred, silently asking for his help.

Fred knew Sharon Qin was embarrassed by Greg's rejection, so he said,"Greg, since Tina is returning, you need to pick Tina up at the airport. She is your fiancee after all. After Tina's father returns from the business trip abroad in a few days, we will discuss your wedding, alright?"

As soon as Fred finished speaking, Greg slammed his chopsticks down in anger. He looked at his Dad and said coldly,"I told you before, I will not marry Tina!"

"But it was decided before..." Greg gave Sharon Qin a fiery look to stop her from saying any more.

"And you!" Greg glared at Sharon Qin angrily as he continued. "The only reason you want me to marry Tina is so that you can be involved with the noble ladies after that, right? And that's why you married my Dad and lived in my home all these years, isn't it?"

"I..." Sharon Qin was suddenly at a loss for words. Greg was right. That was the reason she wanted Greg to marry Tina. Sharon Qin wanted to become Carol's relative, and Greg's marriage to Tina would make that happen. Then she would be introduced to other ladies from affluent families.

She would meet many of the wealthy ladies and make friends with them, which would lead to becoming one of them in the end. She could have afternoon tea with them, or play mahjong with them.

"Greg! How dare you speak to your stepmother that way!" scolded Fred. He hadn't blamed Greg for his lousy attitude towards Sharon Qin when he first married her, because he thought Greg was just a rebellious boy. He hoped that Greg would accept Sharon Qin as time went by. But, Greg was grown now, so, how could he treat his elders disrespectfully? And how could Fred not be angry with his son when he was behaving so impolitely?

Greg didn't say anything. He didn't like arguing with his Dad, even though he didn't think he was wrong.

"Alright, alright. Calm down, Greg didn't mean to offend me," mediated Sharon Qin pulling Fred's arm.

Fred gave Greg a stern look as he stated,"You will pick Tina up at the airport tomorrow afternoon, and I will arrange a dinner for the two families to welcome Tina home."

"Roger is still lying in the hospital. Do you really think they will want to have dinner with us tomorrow evening?" Greg quickly replied. He didn't think an arrogant woman like Carol would leave her son alone at the hospital to have dinner with them.

Greg's words silenced Fred and Sharon Qin. Even though they invited the Gu Family to have dinner with them, with Roger in the hospital, and Cooper away business, only Carol and Tina would be able to come, and the problem was they weren't sure if Carol and Tina wanted to come.

After thinking for a moment, Sharon Qin suggested,"Fred, why don't we invite the Gu Family to join us for dinner another time? Let's leave Greg and Tina alone tomorrow. I'll explain it to Mrs. Carol if I see her. I think she will understand."

Fred nodded in agreement with Sharon Qin's suggestion. After all, the Gu Family and the Xiao Family were both noble families, and it would destroy the feelings of the two families if they couldn't deal well with these things.

"Do what you want!" shouted Greg as he stood up and stormed out of the dining room.

"Don't forget to pick Tina up at the airport tomorrow afternoon!" shouted Fred as he watched Greg leaving the dining room. He was upset that he had such a stubborn son, who sometimes refused to listen to him.

Violet was up early the next morning. After she washed up, she went downstairs to make chicken soup in the kitchen.

When Jacob and Elsa got up, they smelled the delicious aroma of chicken soup as soon as they went downstairs.

"What's going on? Who is making chicken soup?" Jacob asked puzzled.

"I don't know. Selina and Wilson aren't awake yet, are they? Violet is still sleeping, right?" asked Elsa confused. Was there someone else in the house?

When Jacob and Elsa walked into the kitchen, they saw Violet's back.

"Violet, what are you doing?" asked Elsa surprised.

Violet spun around glancing at Jacob and Elsa, then turned her attention back to the pot, saying in a chipper tone,"Good morning, Grandma, Grandpa. I'm making chicken soup."

"If you wanted some chicken soup, you should've just told me and I would have made some for you. Why are you making it yourself?" Elsa said while she busily wrapped her apron and tied it to make breakfast.

"I didn't make it for myself. It's for my boss, Mr. Roger. He was injured for saving me and is hospitalized, so, I wanted to make some chicken soup for him, to make things up to him," explained Violet.

"Oh, I see," replied Elsa, nodding her head. It was comforting to know that her granddaughter was such a kind person. Violet was friendly to everyone and repaid kindness with kindness.
