Chapter 641

Ice and Fire

"No, Greg. Calm down. Just don't do this, please," Violet said, swallowing hard. She hadn't been ready to face Greg. He dropped at the hospital out of the blue! She didn't expect to meet him today. Violet didn't know how to deal with what was between them yet. She needed time to mull over it with a sound mind.

"Calm down? How do you expect me to calm down? You worry about another man in front of me! You want to donate your own blood to him! What did you expect me to do watching all that?" Greg raised his aggravated voice. The look in his eyes switched from lust to anger.

"But he got injured because of me. That is why I... I..."

Greg cut in before she could finish speaking. "If I was the one who got injured because of you, would you donate your blood to me?" Greg stared at her.

Violet fell silent. She looked at him, not knowing what to say.

Greg added,"Violet, I can sacrifice my life for you!"

"Greg, I -" Violet still didn't know what to say to him. Of course she knew how much he loved her. She hadn't forgotten all the wonderful times she had spent with him five years ago. She never forgot in her heart how nice he was to her.

"You are not allowed to donate your blood to other men. I forbid you from doing so. You are mine. Your blood can only flow in my veins. We're destined to be together," Greg said to her overbearingly. He realized that he had known they were meant to be together from the moment he saw her today. Nothing could ever separate them now.

"Greg, please... please stop," Violet cried silently, unable to fight back her tears. Her heart hurt when she recalled how much she had missed him all these years. She could hardly breathe. She had tried her best to deceive herself, not to mention others. But the moment she saw him again, she realized she couldn't escape her feelings. She could not lie to her own heart. Her love for him was overwhelming.

"What should I do then? Violet, tell me! What should I do?! I never stopped loving you, but what did you do in return? How could you have been so ruthless to me? Tell me what I should do!" Greg shouted hysterically. His heart was tormented. For so many years, he never stopped loving her, regardless of how others pitied him or advised him to do otherwise. Every night, he thought of her bright smile and how it lit him up. Only she belonged in his heart. There was little room for anyone else.

"Greg, don't shout," Violet sobbed.

Greg sighed, mumbling under his breath. He stood up and let her go before walking out of the lounge.

Violet sat up shakily. After smoothing her clothes, she followed him.

Greg stood by the window, looking outside. Violet summoned up the courage to walk over. She moved to stand in front of him.

Gazing into his eyes, Violet could not hold back her feelings for him. She reached out and stroked his cheek gently. His outline, his somber dark eyes, his sharp nose, everything about him was handsome and perfect.

In a daze, Greg moved his eyes from the view outside the window to look at Violet. He felt a sharp pain grip his heart upon seeing her reddened eyes.

He wondered if she had cried often during the past five years. They had met each other less than an hour, and she had already cried twice. If it were possible, he would stay by her side forever and never let her cry. He would not let a single tear fall from her eyes.

"Greg, thank you for loving me," Violet said, shaking her head. She continued,"It's just impossible for us to be together now. Forget me. Move on. I don't deserve your love."

Greg's eyes lifted from hers, blinking furiously. His heart was grieving. He could not understand why she had been so heartless five years ago. She had thrown him away so casually. Her words all those years ago had been fatal, striking a deadly blow to his heart.

Greg didn't respond. The room fell into a deafening silence.

Violet drew back her hand. "Well, I'll go first," she said uncomfortably, shifting her feet.

After a while, she turned around and walked toward the door.

But before Violet could go any further, Greg caught up to her. Hugging her tightly from behind, he rested his forehead on her shoulder heavily.

"Violet, don't go. Don't leave me again. Please..." Greg murmured into Violet's ear.

Greg's pleading words made Violet's heart skip a beat. She didn't mean to shun him five years ago. She had wanted to be with him. She had longed to marry him and grow old with him. But she couldn't forget what that person had warned her about back then at the cafe. She could not gather up the nerve to be with Greg again. 'That person was right. I am not good enough for him. Greg is a handsome young man with a promising future ahead of him. He should marry a girl who helps him with his career. She should be from an influential family business. I'm too ordinary for him, ' she thought.

The room was shrouded in silence. Apart from their breaths, there wasn't any noise to be heard.

Violet made up her mind and freed herself away from Greg's hold. "Forget me!" she shouted fiercely.

Her words lingered in the air between them. Violet stalked to the office door and opened it, slipping outside.

Greg stood stock-still and stared at where Violet had stood before him. The first emotion he felt was disappointment. The second was desperation, until finally, he became bitter and furious. He turned and walked to his desk.

Greg sat down on the chair and stared ahead blankly. He was overwhelmed by the despair he felt. 'Violet, ' he thought to himself. 'I don't know why you broke up with me five years ago. I don't even need to know the reason, because I don't love you anymore. From now on, I hate you. I'll never stop hating you. I want to watch you live miserably. I want you to cry when you see me, to kneel down in front of me and beg for my forgiveness. I won't forgive you even when you plead with me. You owe me this pain, and you deserve it.'
