Chapter 459

Ice and Fire

"No!" Cherry stood in the doorway to block him from leaving. "You're the client I'm here to meet. I'm from the H King Group, and I need to talk to you about the business affairs. How can you leave now?"

"Mrs. Cherry, you can speak with Mr. Mond, and he will sign the contract with you, if you make the deal. It's all still valid, " the man reassured her before pushing past her to leave.

Temper flaring, she sat in the chair before her. Cherry looked at Mond angrily. "What are you doing here? "Why do you interrupt my work?"

"Would you have agreed to see me if I hadn't interrupted your work?" he asked smugly. Cherry had to admit that she wouldn't have. He had tried so many times to see her, and she refused every time. She resolved that she wouldn't keep a pleasant attitude towards him if she must meet with him.

"Why must I see you? Is there anything to say between you and me?" asked Cherry. She didn't know what Mond wanted to do. She did know that Mond always regarded her Jackson as his enemy. So why should she talk to Mond?

"Could you not speak to me with such an attitude? "Cherry, you wouldn't talk to me like that if you knew everything about Jackson!" Mond told her. He hadn't planned to tell her everything just yet. He was sure, however, that Cherry would definitely change her attitude towards him if he did.

She set her jaw firmly and took a deep breath. She decided she didn't want to waste more time than she needed to with Mond. "Mr. Mond, I don't care to know what you mean about 'everything'. I'm only here today to sign the contract. Since you are apparently my client now, please take a look at the contract. If there is no problem with the contract, you may sign."

Cherry informed him, offering him the contract.

Immediately, he took the contract and set it aside. "Cherry, won't you hear my words?" he told her, anger flashing in his eyes. "Do you think you can just do whatever you want since I don't want to hurt you?"

Disappointment rose in his heart. If he really wanted to take revenge on Jackson, he would have begun by harming Cherry. The problem was, he didn't want to hurt Cherry. Ever since she was trapped in the elevator and he helped her out without thinking, he was no longer willing to hurt her.

Even though he hated Jackson so much, he couldn't bring himself to hurt her any more.

She sighed. "Mr. Mond, " she said calmly. "Does it matter to you that I do my own business?"

"What if I say 'Yes'? Each and every move of you and Jackson is related to me. Then what should you do now?" Mond asked.

She shook her head. She didn't know how to answer that. Instead, she ignored it. "Mond, I really don't know what happened between you and Jackson. If you still hate Jackson because of what happened in the residential compound, why won't you forget? Stephen has already moved on! If Jackson did something bad to you, I'll apologise for him now. Sorry! I'm really sorry! Isn't that enough for you?"

Her words burning in the air, she stood to leave.

Mond didn't move. "Sister-in-law, " he called her coldly, "it's really not as simply as you thought, haha!"

Sister-in-law? That word halted her in her tracks. What did that mean? Why would he call her that? He wasn't like Derek. Derek called her sister-in-

law because he was Jackson's best friend, but what about Mond? Was Mond one of Jackson's best friends too? But Jackson never mentioned Mond when he spoke to her of his childhood. How could Mond call her sister-in-law?

Cherry turned slowly, the confusion turning in her mind, and she looked at Mond.

Before Cherry could speak, Mond did.

"Cherry, I think I need to change my mind about you. I need to do something to you, " Mond said to her, standing and walking towards her. "I have to ruin Jackson, and that begins with hurting you!"

His eyes blazed with anger as he got closer and closer. "I've neglected your family recently. Jackson. You. And your baby son. From now on, I'll take 'good' care of you with all my heart. I want you all to have 'good' lives." He leaned in and whispered, "A very... 'good' life!"

Mond left Cherry in that private room, stewing about his words.

Cherry stood in place, thinking fearfully about Mond's words. His threats. Would their son be in danger? Would Jackson be in danger too?

She felt fixed to the spot in terror. She barely noticed it as her client returned to the room, pulled out a pen and signed the contract quickly.

"Mrs. Cherry, I've signed the contract. I'll ask my people to attend the H King Group to sort out the specific matters with you in a few days. Don't worry, " he told her lightly. He hesitated, awaiting her response. When none came, he turned and left.

A little after her client had left, Cherry finally looked at the contract. As he said, it was signed. She just couldn't shake Mond's words from her mind.

She felt the need to find Jackson right now and tell him what happened. She and Jackson could make preparations if Mond's threats were true.

Hurrying out of the private room with the contract, she drove to the bar trying to call Jackson.

However, none of her phone calls went through. He didn't answer. Her heart was beating faster, and her chest tightened with anxiety and worry. What could he be doing now? Why didn't he answer her calls?

She tried to convince herself that Jackson was probably just too busy with work to answer the phone, but to no avail. She felt something would happen, but she couldn't figure out what or when.

A few deep breaths later, she relaxed as much as she could in this situation. Cherry decided to try her best to focus on driving. It was useless to think and worry so much. She should drive carefully to Jackson's bar. She would find him as soon as possible, and she would finally be able to calm down once she was in her husband's warm embrace.
