Su Li and Gao Ming exchanged glances, both pondering whether Su Bingâs comment was meant to tease them or simply state a fact. However, it didnât matter much; what was truly important was that they were friends again!
Though the reconciliation process had been a bit awkward, it was worth it for the sake of their friendship. The atmosphere around the dinner table returned to its usual lively banter as they resumed chatting animatedly.
Taking a sip of his tea, Gao Lang raised his cup to Gu Zi, expressing his gratitude. âMrs. Su, Iâve long heard that you have a unique way of handling children. Today, I finally see it in action, and I must say, Iâm genuinely impressed. Also, my mother mentioned how well youâve taken care of Gao Ming. Iâm truly grateful for that. Next Saturday, my wife and I are moving back to Jifu New Village, and weâd love for you to join us for our housewarming party.
âAlso, letâs set up another time for my wife and me to treat you both to a meal as a token of our appreciation. This is what my mother wishes, and itâs also our heartfelt desire,â he added.
While Su Shen was the primary breadwinner of the family, he didnât cling to rigid, outdated notions of masculinity that dictated he should always speak for the family. In fact, it was often Gu Zi who voiced their thoughts, as Su Shen preferred to follow her lead.
Gu Zi had grown accustomed to this dynamic. She raised her glass alongside Su Shen, replying warmly, âMr. Gao, youâre too polite. Gao Ming frequently visits our home, and in doing so, he has become a wonderful friend to Su Li. We also owe a debt of gratitude to Grandma Gao for all her help. We will definitely attend the housewarming party, and we look forward to the meal invitation as well.â
âRegarding the children, Mr. Gao, Gao Ming is quite a simple child, and heâs pretty easy to understand. You and Gao Mingâs mother are doing a great job caring for him; I believe you both can truly understand him,â she concluded.
As she spoke, a flicker of guilt crossed Gao Langâs face. He realized that the rift between Gao Ming and him was largely due to his own shortcomings as a father.
âMrs. Su, youâve helped us far more than we could ever repay. After my conversation with Su Bing, it struck me how Iâve spent my life focused on research at the expense of my family. I hadnât realized until now that while my research is important, neglecting my family for it was irresponsible. Thatâs why Iâve decided to change my position,â Gao Lang confessed.
Both Su Shen and Gao Lang, sharing the perspective of fathers, found common ground in their understanding.
Su Shen reflected on his past, admitting that he had once poured all his energy into earning money, believing it was enough to ensure his childrenâs happiness. However, this mindset had indirectly caused them harm. If it hadnât been for Gu Ziâs presence, he might still be oblivious to what true responsibility meant.
He spoke up, âMr. Gao, providing for your family isnât just about financial support; itâs about giving love and attention. Money is merely the foundation; itâs the least we should offer.â
After their heartfelt exchange, Gu Zi took the children to the park, a visit arranged through Gao Mingâs mother. Meanwhile, the two fathers stayed behind at the teahouse, enjoying their conversation over tea.
By the time the group returned home, it was past five in the afternoon.
Gao Lang took Gao Ming back to their home, while Gu Zi and her children returned to the Su residence. Sitting on the sofa in the living room, Gu Zi felt a wave of fatigue wash over her. This outing had been as exhausting as doing housework.
Noticing her weariness, Su Shen joined her on the couch and gently massaged her shoulders. His large frame loomed over her petite figure, and he was cautious not to apply too much pressure. His careful, yet firm touch soon alleviated her tension.
Feeling much more relaxed, Gu Zi glanced at the clock and noted it was nearly six oâclock.
âMy parents should be arriving soon,â she said, recalling their plans for a family reunion dinner that evening. Her family now lived in town, and her brother was driving the pig farm truck into the city, making the trip much easier.
Su Shen was aware of the arrangements and looked forward to them. Having few close relatives of his own, he viewed Gu Ziâs family as his own.
He quickly got up to head toward the door. âIâll go open the main gate,â he said.
Upon hearing that their grandparents were coming, Su Li and Su Le dashed after Su Shen, excitedly racing to greet them.
Children have such simple hearts; those who treat them well easily occupy their thoughts. While Su Bing didnât join his siblings in the rush, he quietly prepared for their arrival.@@novelbin@@
