Neil

"What the hell is happening here?" I asked, clearly shocked looking at the scene in front of me .

Kiara is holding a baby and Mom and Sid are standing surrounding her signalling me to keep quiet, but I guess they are too late because the baby has started crying.

"What hell did you do Bro? After so much struggle she had finally kept quiet?" Sid said to me, but I was still lost in confusion about what is happening.

"I'll explain everything to you, but first let me calm her down." Kiara said sensing my confusion while calming the baby down so as to stop her crying.

"But what is happening?" I whisper asked to Mom, getting a hit on arm in the form of an answer .

So finally after getting a no from everyone about telling what was happening, I stopped my efforts and started going to my room to change and come back to get the answers.

But as soon as I stepped away to go to the room, the baby started crying more and more, which made me sad a little, so without wasting any time, I went to Kiara, took the baby in my hands, and started shushing her and playing with her after which she immediately calmed down and her cries finally turned into light sobs.

I was so happy that I had done something great, and everyone present in the hall was giving me a proud smile.

As I continued dodging the baby, she finally slept and we all were relieved.

"Neil dear, give her to me, I'll go and make her lie down in my room, till then Kiara would explain to you what happened so that you can keep your excitement in control." Mom said before taking the baby from my hand, and going towards her room.

"So, Kiara, are you going to tell me what's happening?" I asked curiously, sitting on the sofa.

"Can I tell please?" Sid said and before even letting me answer him he started his rant while I looked at Kiara who just gave me a nod.

"So, I had made an amazing pasta, and we all were eating it, and suddenly your wife heard someone whimpering and even Mom too heard it, So she commanded me to go and check who it was, so I did as told and went towards the front gate" Sid said and suddenly stopped.

"Are you going to continue?" I asked him to which he replied in no which confused me.

"Prishu is calling, and I've to explain even to her too, so Kiara will tell you the rest of the story, and I'll go and pick up the call." Sid said and rushed to his bedroom while I just looked at him like what the hell is happening.

"He has earphones in his ears." Kiara said clearing my confusion I was about to ask her further but she didn't allow me to do so.

"You've just come from the office, go and change and get fresh, then I'll tell you." She said in a commanding voice and I couldn't even decline her.

So I quickly got up and went to the room followed by Kiara.

Damn!! I never thought that something this unexpected would ever come up in life, like seriously

That delicious pasta has lost all its feel due to these sudden new happenings,

but,

that baby is so cute, I wonder who left her on our doorstep

And god damn! Babies cry so much, like how do they even manage to do so, cause for me even if a single drop falls down my eyes, I'll start having the worst headache ever.

And I am so angry and even happy with Neil,

Angry, because after so many tries I had managed to shush her down and he again made her cry,

and Happy, because even though he made her cry, he managed to even make her sleep.

But don't you all think, this husband of mine is quite impatient, like I told him so many times to wait for some time then I'll tell you everything, but no, he has to poke his nose like an impatient fellow.

but leave it all,

how come this baby has arrived here, and who is she?

I am under so much tension right now thinking about all this, I wasn't this stressed even during my exams.

But anyways, now since that baby has slept, I can think about all the questions,

thinking so, I lay on the bed when I heard the bathroom door open with a creaking sound.

I guess this door needs oiling

"So Kiara, Continue fast, what was happening, and who is this kid?" Neil questioned with curiosity filled eyes.

As I said impatient as hell!

"Calm down impatient fellow, even I don't know who the kid is, I was so calmly eating the pasta..." I started only to get cut off by him.

"And you heard whimpers and Sid found out the baby, what after that?" Neil said sitting on his side of the bed.

"Nothing, we just went outside and saw this baby who started crying, then we brought her inside and rest you know." I said and Neil finally looked a little relieved that he knows what was happening in the house.

"Ohk!, so what after this, who's the baby and who left her?" He asked.

"I don't know, even I was thinking the same thing." I said he nodded before lying down on the bed.

"It's so sad that someone left an innocent kid to suffer without even thinking what would happen to her." Neil said and I couldn't help but agree.

After that, we both sat in silence thinking about the baby mostly when I realized something and broke the peaceful silence,

"You know Neil, she was kept in a basket, we should check it, maybe we can get something that would help us get some information." I said quickly getting up and sitting on the bed.

"You're right Lawyer Ma'am, let's go!" He said and we both rushed downstairs to see the basket on the center table.

"Maybe Sid bought it, come on let's check it out." Neil said and we both went towards the table and picked up the basket.

"See Neil, there's a letter there at the bottom of the basket." I said as I saw the letter as soon as Neil picked up the basket for examining.

"Kiara, Neil what are you both doing here?" our heads snapped toward the voice and it was Mom.

I immediately answered her questions and then she came near us and took the letter and started reading it,

Dear Lawyer,

I'm writing this letter to you, this child is my granddaughter, remember you had helped her Mom to keep her, now her mother is no more and even I've only a few days left, so I request you to kindly keep her. She'll have no one after me that's the reason I'm leaving her on your doorstep. Her father would never protect her and her life would be destroyed if he gets the custody.

Please take care of her, and the love that's right now snatched from her, please give it to her. She is innocent, have mercy on her and please take such a decision that will provide Her a bright future.

Mom finished the letter and we all were sad after it, but the main point is who left the baby because I'm not able to recall a single thing.

"Kiara, who's this lady who wrote the letter?, Do you remember about saving anyone like this ?" Neil asked and I just nodded in no.

"Kiara, what's happening here?" I heard a voice at the door and it was none other than Prisha.

"Prishu, what are you doing here?" I asked her after I went towards her and hugged her.

"Sid called me, saying that there's a baby and he asked me to bring all the things needed by a baby." She informed us.

"My god, Sid is this responsible? How come I never knew?" Mom said a little shocked, which made all of us chuckle.

After that we all sat down and I told Prisha about the letter, we were all thinking about now what to further, when Prisha spoke up,

"Kiara, I guess I remember the lady." Prisha said and everyone started looking at her with a questioning look.

"Actually, we both work at the same firm, so sometimes we help each other with cases and I guess I helped her with this." Prisha said clearing everyone's confusion.

"Leave all This, Prisha so tell me what do you remember?" I asked.

"Kiara, I think it's that Leela, you remember you fought her case against her husband, to let her keep the baby." Prisha said but I didn't really recall everything.

"Remember, she came to the office running, but security wouldn't let her enter and you were entering at the same time, so she literally fell on your legs." and this time I finally remembered.

"That Leela, Leela Rai?" I asked and she nodded and we both were relieved that I finally understood who wrote the letter for me.

"So are we keeping the baby?" Sid asked out of nowhere.

"Legally, we can, but it's a long procedure." Prisha replied and everyone nodded in agreement.

"What's the problem even if it is a long process, somebody has left her on our doorstep trusting me, and I would never let their trust break." I said remembering that innocent kid who had just a few days ago arrived in the world.

"Kiara what do you mean?" Neil asked me and I smiled at him a little before saying,

"We are going to adopt her"
