Chapter 12

Marriage Contract or a Love Proposal | ✔

Third-person POV

It was finally the day when Kiara and Neil were going to get married, or as we can say, getting tied to each other for 6 months.

Kiara was getting ready for her big day in her room, thinking about how her dream of bringing the baraat was coming true, and she smiled slightly as she remembered their meeting yesterday.

"Oh, Kia, you're smiling even before your wedding. I'm sure you'll have the best wedding life, not like mine, where I had to just hold back our tears." Her bua said who had recently divorced her husband.

"That's for sure, didi; after all, we are getting her married after properly examining the boy and his family." Kiara's mother replied very proudly.

All this while, Kiara was still in her own world, thinking about the only thing that was disturbing her.

"Was signing the contract necessary?"

After this whole month, she has realised that even without love, this marriage would definitely work out.

"Kiara, hurry up, we have to be on the mandap." Her mother said

"Not on the mandap, but at the main gate." Kiara said, smiling at the thought.

"Why?" Her mother questioned, shockingly, believing she would flee like the dramatic seriels, and she didn't even have a replacement.

"Chill, mom, nothing like you're thinking." Kiara replied, easily reading her mother's mind.

"Then?" her mother asked, feeling a little relieved.

"I'm bringing the baraat, and Neil is going to stand on the mandap waiting for me." Kiara replied with an excitement-filled voice, shocking her mother.

"Kia, are you mad? Your marriage is not in a book; it's in real life, and that too in India... The Khurana family will not accept this, child. Do you believe any family will consent on giving their son's rights to the daughter-in-law?" Her mother screamed at her.

"Mumma, chill. I already had a talk with Neil about this, and he has agreed, and even his parents have agreed. He called me in the morning to inform me that." Kiara informed her mother, making her sigh in relief.

"Then, this is really exciting. I always wished my daughter would do something unique in her life, and this can be included on the list." Her mother happily hugged her.

"Enough, you mother-daughter; now Kia, sit and do your makeup, and Auntie... please go see the guests." Prisha stated that seeing the mother-daughter wasting time even when the wedding is only 2 hours away.

"Relax, Prishu; everything will be fine; don't worry." Kiara said to her besties after seeing her stressed out.

"Ok, dear bride, now come and get ready."

The whole garden of the Khurana Mansion was dazzling with lights; the decoration of the garden is definitely a treat for the eyes, with the mandap in the centre having the havankund and Pandit Ji, who's going to get the two people married.

Neil Khurana, dressed in an off-white sherwani and looking devilishly handsome, is waiting for his soon-to-be wife-to-be, Kiara Mehra, who has just gotten down from the ghodi and is dancing while walking down the wedding aisle, moving her body graciously to the beats of music played by the baraat band.

Everyone had a smile on their faces and adoration in their eyes, except for one, whose eyes were filled with confusion.

Neil

"Bro, how are you smiling...and how did you let this happen? You always wanted to do all the things that grooms do, but now Kiara does them." Sid whispered at me.

"I know, Sid, but look at how happy my angel is." I told Sid, not taking my gaze away from Kiara even for a second.

Yes, she's my angel now, the one who is so breathtakingly beautiful, the one who is so noisy yet so peaceful, the one who has the power to bring me to my knees...

I've realised this whole month that I'll never find anyone more perfect for me than her.

but the only problem is... the contract

BUT

I won't think about it now because today is the day she becomes mine...It's not a big deal if it's only for six months, but the fact that I'll get to spend that time with her is incredible.

"Ohh... I see, you like her..." Sid said, and I smiled in agreement.

After that, I see Kiara has reached the mandap. I offered her a hand and she accepted it, and then we were both set for our marriage to begin.

"Now please stand for the rounds." We both did as instructed, and the priest started chanting the mantras.

With each round, I made a promise to myself that I would keep in the next six months.

1. Always try to keep her happy.

2. I'll be the one who's always wrong.

3. Make her have the best 6 months of her life.

4. Respect her decisions.

5. Love her unconditionally.

6. Respect her boundaries.

7. Always let her know that she's my priority.

After completing our round, we again sat down.

"Now put the nuptial chain around the bride's neck and fill her hairline with vermillion." The priest instructed, and I obliged.

"The marriage is over; now you both are husband and wife." The priest announced.

I smiled looking at Kiara, and she did the same.

Yes!!! I'm finally married.

What I had been waiting for a month has finally happened.

These six months are going to be the best.

Now we both got up and took blessings from elders and then looked at each other dreadfully, realising that now we both have to hurt our cheeks and eyes smiling for at least 3 hours in front of the camera.

Why 3 hours?

Because if a single photo takes half a minute, then 360 photos will definitely take 3 hours.

YES!!! We have at least 360 families as guests, and more than half I don't even know.

But as it's customary to click photos, we had to do it.

and after what I think was a century, the photographer stopped, and we both finally sat down.

Damn!! Getting married is hectic.

After that, we both had food, and then it was time for Kiara's bidaai, in which she cried like it was the end of the whole world.

She loves her mom and dad a lot.

Then she hugged Prisha, and we both headed towards the entrance door of Khurana Mansion as the wedding took place in the garden.

Then we both entered the mansion once Kiara had kicked the Kalash, and then we played a lot of games, the first of which was a very basic finding the ring game, which she won.

it was followed by many other games, and then finally, my parents and dear brother realised our tiredness and called the day off.

Then I was asked to wait until Kiara was sent to my room to correct our room, and after making me wait for at least 30 minutes, I was allowed to enter the room.

and when I entered, what I saw amused me.

************************************************

Kiara

Damn!! I never thought getting married would be so hectic.

And that smiling ! My cheeks hurt.

Now, finally, I was allowed to go inside the room, and I must say it was huge, and right now it looks so cringeworthy with the candles everywhere and a big heart made from rose petals in the centre of the bed.

I'm already tired, and if I look even a minute more at this, I'll start having a migraine.

Thinking this, I went towards the door where my suitcase was placed, opened it, took my clothes and other necessary items, and went to take a bath.

After having a nice relaxing shower, I changed my clothes, went out, and removed the giant heart on the bed. I then sat down to reply to all the congratulatory messages.

Then Neil entered the room with a shocked expression.

"Hello, dear husband, why are you so shocked?" I asked him, which honestly made him more shocked.

"Uh-hello, what is all this decoration?" he asked me after he came out of shock.

"That's done by various people who think that we are going to do something tonight." I replied, and then, I swear to god, Neil's face was worth laughing at.

He was so shocked, confused, and amused at the same time.

"Chill, dude, go get fresh, as I've already done, because I'm sure that we aren't going to do anything." I said to him, which made him relax and give me a small smile and then he went inside the bathroom.

And then I started laughing, like seriously, his face was so funny right now, and then I laughed some more, thinking about what I was going to do .

And it happened exactly like I wanted, he looked like he'll have a heart attack soon, cause when he came out of the bathroom, I was standing there holding a bottle of beer and two glasses.

And again, I had to tell him to calm down.

"Calm down, man; do you remember ,I told you that I wanted to fulfil my many dreams about my marriage?" I asked him.

"Yes." he replied, still getting over his shock.

"So, this is my second wish that I wanted to have the first drink of my life with my husband." I said, with excitement filling my voice, which even Neil could hear smiling.

"Okay, so, Mrs. Khurana, why today? We can have a drink anytime in six months." he said to me with a kind of obvious reaction.

"I know that, but since we are free today, we'll fulfil my wish today." I said in a commanding tone.

"Ok, let's do it." he replied in agreement, after which we both sat down, poured the beer into our glasses.

I said "cheers" and drank the liquid in a glass all at once, and I was already feeling tipsy.

"I guess drinks are not made for you, Kiara; you should stop." Neil said to me with a concerned voice, and before I could reply, everything blacked out.

*****************************************************

"Kiara, wake up. Wakeup, Kiara" I heard a voice and felt myself shaking a little.

"Mumma, please let me sleep; I'm having a headache." I said, and again I slept.

"I know you're having a headache. Kiara, that's why I need you to get up now. "The voice said it with authority.

"What's your problem?" I was going to yell as soon as I got up to a sitting position, but my voice died when I realised that the person who was waking me up was not my mother but an unknown human.

"Who are you?" I asked the person

"Seriously, Kiara, you forgot me within 10 hours of our marriage?" The person asked in disbelief.

wait!!!

Marriage???

Then it suddenly struck me that I was married, and then I rubbed my eyes again, looking at the person whom I soon recognised as my husband, "The Neil Khurana," who was standing with disbelief written all over his face.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry. Actually, I'm used to getting up with my mom waking me, and my brain right now is still processing that I'm married." I said she was fumbling and panicking.

"Sshh, stop apologizing, it's not a big deal, calm down." Neil said, offering me a glass of water and slightly caressing my back, which really did calm me down, and then he made me sit on the bed.

"Here, have this lemonade; you'll feel better." he said, offering me the glass, which I took and drank in one go.

"Thank you. My god, my head feels heavy," I said as I held my head up.

"I know, that's why I bought this lemonade." He said, and I looked at him, puzzled.

"Yesterday you had the first drink of your life; you're bound to feel like this." he said, clearing my confusion.

"Here, take this painkiller; it'll help you reduce the pain in your head; and then take a nap; and afterwards, get ready; mum has given that saree for you," he said, pointing at a light blue, elegant saree that was placed on the table.

I nodded at him, took my medicine, and again went to sleep.

When I woke up, it was nearly 10 a.m., which made me panic, and I quickly got up, got ready, and went downstairs, where my mother-in-law was waiting for me, looking quite angry.

Uh-oh, getting up late on the first day after your marriage is a problem, I guess.
