Chapter 999
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âBelinda,â Bethany said. âWhy are you being so hard on yourself? Why worry about things that havenât even happened yet? Youâre only making yourself miserable.â
Belinda finally spoke. âIâd rather suffer alone than make Lucas and me both suffer in the future.â
âCome on, donât be so pessimistic,â Bethany said, trying to sound cheerful. âThings may not even turn out as badly as you think.â
Belinda replied, âAll right, Bethany, stop. Thatâs enough. Iâve already made up my mind. Donât try to change it.â
Belinda sat up and turned to Bethany with a serious expression. âPromise me you wonât tell anyone what Iâm really thinking.â
Bethany pressed her lips together. After a moment of silence, she nodded with obvious reluctance. âAll right.â
Belinda forced a smile and lay back down.
Bethany stayed until Belinda fell asleep, then quietly slipped out of the room.
The next day, at the Clark familyâs mansion, Sanford and Jennifer had been on their knees since the previous night.
Sanford was furious with his daughter.
All she ever did was cause trouble for him and the family!
Their legs were about to go completely numb when Lucas finally appeared.
âMr. Clark! Mr. Clark! We have reflected on ourselves and realized our mistakes! Please give us one more chance, just one last chance!â Sanford pleaded desperately.
Beside him, Jennifer burst into tears when she saw Lucas. âI was wrong, Mr. Clark! Please have mercy! I will never speak badly of Miss Wright again! Please trust me one last time!â
Lucas stood before them, one hand in his trouser pocket, his expression indifferent. âItâs not impossible for me to give you one last chance,â he said.
Sanfordâs and Jenniferâs eyes immediately lit up.
But they didnât even get a chance to feel happy before Lucas tossed a pair of scissors in their direction.
It landed in front of them, and Sanford and Jennifer were left staring at it in confusion.
âMr. Gordon,â Lucas said, âIâm sure you understand the principle of loose lips causing unnecessary trouble. Since your daughter has made quite a lot of false accusations, can you tell me what sort of punishment she deserves?â
Sanford looked up at Lucas, then back at the scissors. The realization struck him like a bolt of lightning.
Lucas wanted him to cut out his own daughterâs tongue!
Noâ¦
He couldnât do that.
She wouldnât even be able to speak in the future if he did that!
âMr. Clark!â Sanford cried out, bowing at Lucasâ feet. âI cannot do it!â
Lucas didnât like wasting his time on this. âIf you canât bring yourself to cut out your daughterâs tongue, then hand over your company instead.â
