Chapter 991
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âYes, Mr. Clark.â
That night, Lucas went to Belindaâs place to see her.
Mainly because he wanted to check on her, but also because he felt the need to update her on the situation.
But Bethany stopped him in the living room. âYou can talk to Belinda tomorrow. Belindaâs condition has worsened. She contracted a fever this afternoon, and it hasnât gone away. She ate dinner, but threw up almost immediately. It took her a while to finally fall asleep, so I think itâs best that you let her rest.â
Lucas felt as though his heart was being torn to pieces. âIâll go upstairs and check on her,â Lucas said in a rough voice.
âDonât,â Bethany said.
Lucas turned and looked at her, his brows furrowed in confusion. Why wouldnât Bethany let him go upstairs?
âBelinda locked the door. She wonât let you in,â Bethany explained, her voice tinged with concern. âShe doesnât even want me to stay in the same room with her anymore. She keeps insisting that sheâs alright and tells me not to worry. But I can see through her wordsâsheâs scared, even if she wonât admit it. Iâve tried reasoning with her, but she wonât budge.â
Lucasâ brow furrowed, his dark eyes clouded with worry.
Bethany spoke again, her tone softer. âYou should go back for now and come back tomorrow. Try visiting in the afternoonâshe tends to sleep more during the day. Maybe seeing you then will ease her mind.â
galnovâ¯âsâ¤com keeps you updated Lucas hesitated, his chest tightening with the weight of helplessness. After a brief pause, he nodded reluctantly. âAlright. Iâll be back tomorrow.â
The following day.
Jazmine and Rowell arrived at Belindaâs place, their faces tense with worry.
They had only just learned about Belindaâs occupational exposure upon returning from their trip to Soling.
âSomething so grave occurred, and you didnât inform us immediately?â Jazmineâs voice trembled with a mixture of anxiety and reproach. Her eyes reddened.
âJazmine, please donât worry about me. Iâm fine,â Belinda tried to reassure her, forcing a smile that barely masked her exhaustion.
âFine? Youâre calling this fine? What would it take for you to admit youâre not alright? Look at yourselfâyour complexion is pale, and youâve clearly lost weight. How can you assert that youâre fine?â Jazmineâs voice rose in frustration, her worry transforming into anger.
Belinda sighed lightly. âItâs just the side effects of the prophylactic medication. Theyâre somewhat intense, but they are nothing I canât handle.â
Rowellâs brows knit together in concern. âThe reactions to pre-exposure prophylaxis medication vary from person to person. Some get through it unscathed, while others suffer harsh side effects. Unfortunately, itâs a gamble. But no matter how severe the symptoms become, stopping the medication isnât an option. You must endure it.â
Belinda nodded firmly. âI understand. I can endure this.â
Rowell gave a small nod of approval before his tone shifted to something more serious. âNow, tell me everything that happened on the day of the incident. Spare no detail.â
