Chapter 89
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

The rumor that the Thomas family was considering a partnership with the Adams family had been well-known among their tight-knit circle. However, just recently, the Thomas family had shifted course dramatically, searching for a new collaborator.
Ryan nearly let slip a curse at Belinda, catching himself with a glance at Lucas. He took a deep breath, his frustration evident. âI really misjudged Belinda. How could someone like herâan outsider to the Thomas family, reallyâsway the Thomas family to her side?â
Vincent inquired, âIs there nothing you can do to turn this around?â
With a heavy sigh, Ryan replied, âMrs. Thomas made it clear that my family should forget about the collaboration. What more can I try?â
Yet, as he spoke, a new idea seemed to dawn on him. He looked hopefully at Lucas. âLucas, could you help me out here?â
Lucas turned to face Ryan as Ryan continued, âBelinda always listens to you. If she could speak to Mr. Thomas on my familyâs behalf, perhaps my family could still salvage this deal.â Ryan was also hoping to demonstrate to his father the real advantages of his ties to Lucas by doing this.
Lucas, pausing only to sip his drink, responded decisively, âIâm staying out of this.â
Ryanâs face clouded with disappointment. âLucasââ He was about to continue when Vincent interjected, âLetâs not get stuck on this. Letâs just enjoy our drinks now.â
Though dissatisfied, Ryan knew better than to express his displeasure in front of Lucas. Reluctantly, he lifted his glass and clinked it with the others.
Meanwhile, at Belinda and Bethanyâs table, an unexpected group of visitors approached them.
Three men in fancy suits, though looking a bit shady, walked over to Belinda and Bethanyâs table.
The leader, Boyce, tried to smile charmingly at the two women. âHow about joining us for a drink?â
One of the men put two drinks down in front of Belinda and Bethany as Boyce spoke.
Belinda, looking uninterested, said, âSorry, I donât drink.â
Boyce just laughed and replied, âThatâs not an issue.â
He turned to his friend Aldo. âGet two glasses of water for them instead.â
âSure thing, boss,â Aldo responded.
Belinda added, âI mean, Iâm not drinking anything at all.â
Boyce chuckled, trying to persuade Belinda. âCome on, donât be like that.â
Belinda didnât say anything.
Bethany, sitting next to Belinda, also showed no interest in the group of men.
Boyceâs face turned dark as he saw their lack of interest. âToday, youâre going to drink with us, whether you want to or not.â
Belinda stood up, eyebrows raised. âYou think you can force me or something?â
Boyce smirked and then instructed Aldo, âMake these two ladies drink, but try to be nice and gentle, okay?â
Aldo smiled creepily. âDonât worry, boss; weâll be very gentle.â He reached out to touch Belindaâs chin, but she quickly grabbed his wrist.
