Chapter 864
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Gordon replied, âAs for Verena, her communication records and financial transactions are also clean. However, the surveillance footage presents a challenge. Verena lives in an older neighborhood where surveillance recordings are only stored for a week before being overwritten. Unfortunately, we couldnât retrieve footage from the time when Minna escaped. Without it, we canât confirm whether Minna went to see Verena or not.â
The room fell into a tense silence. After a while, Lucas, his jaw tight, finally spoke.
âKeep investigating.â
âYes, Mr. Clark,â Gordon responded without hesitation.
Lucas waved him off.
âYou can go back to the company now.â
With a quick nod, Gordon said, âMr. Clark. Ms. Wright, Iâll take my leave now.â
Belinda walked over to the chair beside Lucasâ hospital bed and sat down.
âWhat do you think about the matter?â Lucas asked gently.
Belinda exhaled slowly.
âHonestly? Iâm not sure,â she admitted, shaking her head. She lowered her gaze, her tone growing heavier.
âI asked my mother about it. She saidâ¦â
Kylee called her and told her not to visit the Wright familyâs residence anymore. Apparently, they argued about it on the phone.
Lucas arched an eyebrow.
âDo you believe her?â
Belindaâs lips curved into a faint, self-deprecating smile.
âAt this point, I donât even know if I should trust her or if I can trust her at all,â she said, the bitterness in her voice unmistakable.
Lucas leaned back slightly, his gaze fixed on her as he processed her words. For a moment, he didnât respond, unsure of what to say. Holleyâs actions were undeniably suspicious, yet no concrete evidence had surfaced linking her to the incident.
They were stuck in a dilemma, unable to confirm or dismiss anything definitively.
The silence stretched until Belinda suddenly lifted her head, as though struck by a thought. Her eyes met Lucasâ.
âOn my way here, Darwin called me. He said he wants to come to the hospital to see you.â
At the mention of Darwinâs name, Lucasâ expression hardened instantly, his eyes narrowing with an icy edge.
A tense pause followed before he let out a cold laugh.
âLet him come,â he said.
Belinda nodded, retrieving her phone. She made a quick call to Darwin and told him Lucasâ hospital room number.
