Chapter 860
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius
Holleyâs chaotic thoughts were abruptly interrupted when Belindaâs calm, steady voice cut through the tension.
âMom, thereâs something I want to ask you.â
Holley blinked, snapping back to the present. She looked at Belinda, feigning composure.
âWhat is it?â
Belindaâs expression remained unreadable as she asked, âThe day before yesterday, you and Kylee had a five-minute phone call. What did you two talk about?â
Holley froze for a moment. Her eyes widened slightly.
âHow do you know about that call?â she asked, feeling a rising panic inside her.
Belindaâs gaze sharpened, her expression hardening. Her voice grew colder as she said, âAnswer the question.â
Holley blinked, her expression one of feigned innocence as she explained, âItâs nothing. Kylee merely called to tell me not to visit the Wright familyâs estate again. She said her entire family doesnât wish to see me. I was quite upset at the time, so we exchanged a few heated words, but thatâs all.â
She had quickly concocted this explanation.
Belinda said nothing in return. She merely fixed Holley with a frosty gaze, her eyes penetrating.
As though anticipating what was coming next, Holley stared at Belinda in astonishment, her voice trembling slightly as she said, âBelinda, surely⦠Surely youâre not suspicious that I am involved in this matter? Do you believe this has anything to do with me? That I would conspire with others to harm my own daughter?â
By the end of her statement, her voice had risen, and her emotions seemed to spiral out of control.
Kenia frowned deeply, her lips pressing into a thin line as she directed a serious look at Belinda.
âBelinda, thereâs no way this could involve your mother!â she said.
Belinda, however, remained composed, her tone unwavering as she met Keniaâs gaze.
âItâs just all too coincidental. The night before last, Kylee spoke to my mother for five minutes. The following day, my mother asked me to buy her pastries, and almost immediately after, Minna appeared and tried to kill meââ
âItâs purely a coincidence!â Holley interjected, tears streaming down her cheeks. Her voice cracked as she spoke again, her emotions spilling over like an overflowing dam.
âBelinda, Iâm your mother! The one who brought you into this world. How could you possibly think Iâd conspire with anyone to harm you? How could you doubt the bond we share? Youâve hurt me deeply, more than words can say!â
With that, she abruptly rose from the sofa, her sobs echoing in the room as she went to her bedroom, running from the pain of Belindaâs accusations.
