Chapter 86
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

With those words, Belinda resumed walking, not waiting to hear Holleyâs response.
Holley stared after Belinda with wide eyes, struck silent by her daughterâs unwavering stance. She had not anticipated this unyielding response from Belinda. Something like this had never happened before. Belinda had really changed a lot, becoming someone she hardly recognized.
The encounter with Holley cast a shadow over Belindaâs day. Belinda found herself listless, unable to focus on her tasks. Though she had stood firm before Holley, she was still concerned for her, worried that Baker and Carola might direct their frustration at Holley over the incident.
At the Clark family estate, upon Lucasâ arrival, Harold immediately summoned him to the study.
Harold initiated the conversation, saying, âBaker and Kylee visited this morning.â
Lucasâ response was a subtle lift of his eyebrow.
âDid they come here to tell you about that incident?â Lucas asked.
âYes.â
Interested, Harold asked, âWhat really happened?â
Lucas quickly explained what had happened that day. âBoth sides told different stories, so it is hard to know the truth. Belindaâs parents didnât trust what she said. They kept pushing her to apologize to Kylee. Finally, Belinda lost her patience and dumped a bowl of soup on Kyleeâs hand.â
As he spoke, Lucas looked a bit impressed. He thought last nightâs Belinda was much more interesting than before.
Seeing Lucasâ change of expression, Harold raised his eyebrows. âI knew it! Belinda wouldnât do something like that without a reason. She must have felt really cornered to throw that soup,â Harold said.
Lucas smiled a little. âYou really trust her that much?â
âOf course,â Harold replied firmly. âIâm good at reading people.â Then, he paused, looked at Lucas, and asked, âWhat do you think about this?â
Lucas frowned as he thought of something. Then, he said coldly, âThis is none of my business.â
Harold gave him a stern look. âBelinda is your wife, Lucas. How is this not your business? Your wife is being bullied, and you just stand by and watch?â
Lucas let out a cold laugh. âShe said she doesnât need my help and that she can handle it herself.â His tone was a bit sarcastic. âShe seems to think she has everything under control. I think you donât have to worry about her.â
Harold chuckled after hearing what Lucas said. He realized something else must have happened between Belinda and Lucas yesterday. He gave Lucas a meaningful look.
It seemed to him that Lucas might not have even realized yet how much Belindaâs troubles were affecting him.
Haroldâs gaze prompted Lucas to rise from the couch, his brow furrowed. âI should get going if thereâs nothing else.â
âRemember, no plans for dinner tomorrow. You need to be here,â Harold quickly said.
Looking downward, Lucas caught Haroldâs eye. After looking at Harold for a while, Lucas departed, leaving the room in silence.
