Chapter 83
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Bakerâs voice shook with anger. âI wanted to teach Belinda a lesson right then, but Lucas intervened and defended her, preventing me from taking any action. However, I believe this matter cannot be overlooked. Iâm here to inform you about this, hoping that you and Mrs. Clark will correct Belindaâs behavior. Without proper discipline, her behavior is likely to get even worse.â
Harold focused on a significant detailâLucas had defended Belinda.
Norma, visibly shocked, found the matter hard to believe. âDid Belinda really do such a thing?â
Baker replied, âLucas witnessed it all. If you have doubts, Mr. and Mrs. Clark, you can ask him directly.â
Harold studied Baker, his expression unchanging. âSo, you came here today solely to tell us about this matter and seek discipline for Belinda?â
After a pause, he asked, âThereâs no other reason for your visit?â
Haroldâs question left Baker momentarily speechless before he dismissed it with a shake of his head. âNo, there is no other reason for my visit this time. I simply wanted to update you on the situation.â
Harold smiled and then leaned over to whisper something to Norma.
Norma appeared concerned after hearing Haroldâs words. âAre you really sure about doing this?â
Harold gave a firm nod and said, âGo ahead and do that.â Norma then stood up and ascended the stairs.
Moments later, she returned to the living room, extending a piece of paper to Baker. âHere, take this.â
Confused, Baker looked down at the paper, his shock evident. The paper was a check for five hundred thousand dollars!
Staring up at Harold and Norma, bewildered, he stammered, âMr. and Mrs. Clark, what is this about?â
Haroldâs chuckle filled the room. âItâs to cover Kyleeâs medical bills, and the extra is compensation for what happened. I hope itâs enough.â
Baker, thinking there was a misunderstanding, hurriedly clarified, âMr. Clark, this isnât why we came here today. Weâre not seeking any financial compensation!â
âPlease, Mr. Clark, we didnât mean to imply that at all.â Kylee, who had remained quiet earlier, finally spoke up.
Baker nodded and continued, âExactly, Mr. Clark. Our visit was to discuss Belindaâs actions, not to ask for money from you. We refuse to accept the check.â
Harold listened and then laughed softly. âAnd why would I scold my daughter-in-law for you? Iâm well aware of her character.â
âShe is incapable of the actions you mentioned.â
Baker and Kylee exchanged a look, and then Baker said, âBut Mr. Clark, everything Iâve told you is true! If you doubt it, please feel free to ask Lucas himself!â
Haroldâs smile turned sardonic. âEven if what you said is true, so what? I believe it must have been Kylee who caused trouble for Belinda first. If you think this amount isnât sufficient, just tell me.â
The smiles vanished from Bakerâs and Kyleeâs faces as they grappled with Haroldâs response. Haroldâs fierce defense of Belinda caught both Baker and Kylee off guard. They had not expected Harold to be so unreasonable in his defense of Belinda.
