Chapter 812
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âI was planning to do that as well,â Lucas said.
Minna was like a ticking time bomb, and no one knew when she would explode. Their best option was to find her as soon as possible and contain her.
As they continued with their meal, Lucas looked for topics to discuss with Belinda and eventually brought up Johnson and Catherine.
âI heard about what happened that day. Catherineâs breakup is good news for Johnson, sure, but those two have their own issues between them,â Lucas said.
Belinda raised an eyebrow. âAre you talking about the fact that theyâre adoptive siblings?â
Lucas shook his head. âIt goes deeper than that. Perhaps you donât know much about Catherineâs background. Her mother was the first love of Johnsonâs father. Back then, Johnsonâs father was on the verge of breaking ties with his family just to be with her. If the woman hadnât rushed to marry someone else, and if the head of the Hoffman family hadnât threatened to kill himself, Johnsonâs father might have never married his mother.â
After a pause, he continued, âThen, when Catherine was eight years old, both of her parents died in an accident. She had no relatives to take her in, so she was sent to an orphanage. Thatâs when Johnsonâs father stepped in and adopted her. In fact, her original name isnât Catherine, but Cathy. Johnsonâs father even wanted her to take the Hoffman family name, but his wife and father were strongly opposed to the idea. He had no choice but to let it go. It goes without saying that Johnsonâs mother despises Catherine.â
Belinda was visibly surprised by this revelation.
It was her first time hearing about any of this. She could have never guessed that the situation between Catherine and Johnson was so complicated.
Lucas sighed. âThereâs no way Johnsonâs mother would ever allow him to marry Catherine. More importantly, that woman is cunning and very resourceful. If she finds out about the matter between those two, it will definitely be a huge problem.â
âCatherine might even be put in danger.â Belindaâs expression turned serious at that. âItâs no wonder Johnson has kept his feelings so well-hidden all these years. If I hadnât overheard him drunkenly calling Catherineâs name that one time, I wouldnât have guessed the woman he liked was his own adoptive sister.â
Lucas chuckled softly. âJohnson, Vincent, and I have been friends since childhood, yet none of us realized it before, either.â
Belinda suddenly thought of something. Hadnât Lucas thought Johnson liked her before?
âIf itâs true love,â Belinda said slowly, âthen theyâll find a way to be together, no matter how difficult it is. I mean, if you donât try, then how would you know whatâs possible and whatâs not?â
Lucas was fully in agreement with that. He paused for a moment and then gazed at Belinda, his lips curling into a smile. âYouâre right about that.â
Lucas and Belinda didnât say much else after that.
When they finished eating, they left the private room. They were walking down the hallway when they heard a female voice echo from behind themâ¦
âLucas.â
Lucas and Belinda turned in unison.
Belinda couldnât help but raise her eyebrows when she saw who had just spoken. It was Carmelita.
âHey, Lucas, what a surprise! Are you also here for a meal?â Carmelita walked up to Lucas with a bright smile on her face.
