Chapter 71
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Kylee hastened toward Lucas, a warm smile brightening her face. âMr. Clark, are you here to see Belinda? I can take you to her.â
Lucas met her approach with a cool gaze. âIs there something you want to say to me? Just say it.â
Though caught off guard by Lucasâ cold demeanor, Kylee managed to maintain her smile, though it was a bit forced. âActually, I have a favor to ask. Could you relay a message to Belinda for me? Despite securing her position at the Grand Plains General Hospital with the help of the deputy director, she should know her capabilities are really not up to standard. The hospital conducts rigorous monthly evaluations, and failing those could lead to dismissal. It would be quite embarrassing for her to be dismissed later.â
She pressed her lips together for a moment. Then, she continued, her tone sincere, âMr. Clark, please tell Belinda it might be better if she chose to resign voluntarily. That way, she could focus on improving her skills and perhaps return later, more prepared. Relying solely on connections wonât sustain her position at the Grand Plains General Hospital.â
Lucas listened, his expression unmoved. Then, his eyes narrowed slightly, a flicker of mockery passing through them. He quirked an eyebrow. âAnd what are you actually suggesting?â
Kylee, momentarily flustered by his words, quickly regained her composure. âOh, nothing specific! I just hoped you could help convey this message to Belinda for me; thatâs all.â
âReally?â Lucas let out a soft chuckle as if amused by a joke. âYou and Belinda work in the same hospital, yet you ask me to deliver this advice to her? Why not tell her yourself? What am I, a courier?â
His voice turned icy as he concluded his thoughts. He knew all too well that Belinda, despite her naivety, had often been manipulated by Kyleeâbetrayed and yet grateful to her so-called sister, who clearly harbored ulterior motives.
Kyleeâs face tensed up. After a pause, she said resignedly, âBelinda wonât take my advice seriously if it comes from me. But she might listen if it comes from you, Mr. Clark. She always listens to you.â
Lucasâ lips twisted into a sardonic, chilly smile, his demeanor formidable. âMiss Wright, donât worry about Belinda. As long as she is my wife, who would dare dismiss her?â
Kyleeâs eyes widened in shock, her expression faltering as she struggled to comprehend Lucasâ stance. She had assumed Lucas shared her disdain for Belinda. But nowâ¦
Lucas looked at Kylee with disdain. While he did not have affection for Belinda, he had even less tolerance for manipulation.
Kyleeâs attempt to use him to undermine Belinda was evident and only served to irritate him further. Seeing through Kyleeâs intentions, which were clearly aimed at smearing Belindaâs reputation to sway his perception, Lucas felt a mix of impatience and contempt.
Without another word or glance at Kylee, he turned and walked away. His tall figure receded with a commanding air, leaving Kylee to stew in her frustration.
